If you ever play the rogue squadrin games the speeders make many appearances outside of hoth

my son has some games of star wars but nothing with the speeder in it. My biggest thing is not having it painted for hoth, from the movie stills it looks like they are almost white washed like the german tanks for winter camo. Or is it just a light grey?

Grey.

Your best reference is when Luke climbs in at Echo Base and once he crashs and crawls out.

Outside crash site has better light but is also half buried under the snow.

In the hanger they look really dirty.

Cut another access panel on the front side of the speeder and have to scribe the lines for the other access panels because I dont think Im gonna open them all up, I will post them later.

That is their normal color scheme, its orange with a dirty gray, just like the X wings, Y wings...

Opening up more panels, I just wanted to scribe the other panel lines, but I have never scribed before and I can not get them square, so ill have to open them up and keep sanding and filing till there square.

and im thinking since im not building it exactly like a t-47 Ill call it a T-48!!! As a rebuilt of the T-47...

Could always just give it an upgrade model number like they do on real aircraft like a T-47 E or something.

IIRC the T-65's where a C model making the inaccurate AMT kit a B model (in more ways than one). Wink [;)]

it might be too late, but i'd suggest adding a beam or something in the access hole for the laser thing to sit on, rather than having it span the hole.

Its not a great shot but this is all that will be seen after the rest is put in place, i really didnt take that in to consideration before i cut the panel open but i think it will be ok once everything is painted and in place.

Here is the photo that inspired me to do the access panel in that area, I didn't want it to go all the way down below the gun or what ever it is called, but it may have made more sense. Before I complete the kit I may just add a cover to each one because the more i look at it as a mechanic it would be pretty hard to take the cover off once all is in place. I do like the red color they have inside the panel thou. Seems really odd but it contrasts really good with the grey colors. But we will see, I just hope its not so far fetched that it doesn't make any sense after Im all done with it. I started to detail the cockpit then after seeing that I couldn't stop the scracthbuilding bug...and the harpoon gun thats a whole other story , it needs a lot added to it and the cable attached to the back of the speeder. That will give it a lot of realism.

I like that,  T-47E like the BF 109 E's, could also nickname it an EMIL.Smile [:)]

Since you have already cut out all those panels leave them off and super detail that bad boy.Big Smile [:D]

The OT Cutaway book can give you ideas on what to put in there.

I just spent the last hour or so mapping out the panel lines on the port side on mine.

Gave it a clear coat so I don't wear ir off with handling.

Going to be a real adventure trying to scribe those.

Now I have to try and match the starboard side. Sigh [sigh]

Have you a thread on your build? Would like to see your scribe work on your kit. I will have to do that to mine and overall that is the part i am not looking forward too, after scribing the lines just to cut out the panels which were very hard to keep straight even using a template as an edge....

I'll start a thread in a bit.

I haven't attempted scribing anything yet, just finished mapping out all the lines a few minutes ago.

Using the 2 studio models as reference as well as a studio scale scratch build over on RPF I decided to make both sides the same instead of a patch job version since the orange and the grey speeders have a few panels that are different.

I'm also modifying the canopy to earlier designs with it opening on both ends and with a roomier cockpit.

Loking good.

I'd go with mechanical items and some structure on there.

Maybe some sort of removable modules like in current planes.

Wow that looks good.

Coming along nicely.

I opened a few small panels on mine but lower down the wing.

Didn't realise there is no space in there.

That is the reason mine are so high, in fact the front access panels are hitting the bottom of the speeder, so I had to sand it till it went thru the bottom and then ill have to putty the holes to hid them. I think thats why AMT/ERTL never opened them up in there kit. But it looks so cool being done. I was thinking today about this build and it's amazing, this whole project started out that I was just gonna detail the cockpit, but then i got the bug and it won't stop, I have even designed a new harpoon gun with tow cable that will be attached to the back of the speeder.......

Ok all recessed panels are complete and installed in the speeder, got that finished last night and starting to scracthbuild a harpoon gun, thing is reference is so hard to find that im basically building it as close as possible to the studio model but it will look quit different when im done.

My pictures are not the clearest, when i finish the kit I have a friend that will take good clear, close up shots of all sides...

Couldn't leave well enough alone. Had to open up a panel on the front. I want to show fuel tank detail. Also think will have some panels on the bottom of the speeder, but will have to figure out a latching system so they stay in place when model is up right.

Also a shot of the scracthbuilt harpoon gun im working on...

Can't wait to see it!!! The cockpit was the reason I started the project 2 years ago. Or I should say the lack of a cockpit. So plain right out of the box.

opened up a bottom panel the only place that would have some room. I'm thinking that the repulsors that would drive the t-47 could look like engines so im gonna add some of that kind of detail here.

also thinking of hinging this bottom panel and making a scracth built latch to hold it shut...

What are you using for the engines?

I am building mine with the engine removed for maintanance.

Got the idea form the cutaway book.

I guess i havent see that cut away book, is there any where on line that shows a pic of that? but thats an excellant idea about showing it with the engine removed, that would have worked well with my dio that im planning. I can't wait to see your updates. My engines are from anakins podracer kit, just the very first part of the pod engine.

Are you going to build a dio for your t-47?

Yeah I just bought a couple figures to go with it.

Don't know if the cutaway is anywhere on line.

It's one of those large sized books.

I was just looking around my back room and discovered I have some of that perferated metal that's used inside the wing.

Holes are a bit smaller but it will look much better than the hand drilled piece I was going to use.

It's screen used on speakers.

Probably not online anywhere, i just thought that it would be against copyright anyway. Any updates on your build yet?

Check your PM box.

Not much happening with mine.

Finally got all the scribing done.

Also working on the end pieces of the main guns.

Just took out a few bulkheads I put in last night since they don't allow enough room for the engines.
