Excellent work on that speeder. It's about time someone put this thing together with such care and attention to detail :)

Astrazoic  Alex  Schweinhund227- Thank all three of you for your kind words, and for following along on this build. I have a few other ideas for it and have to start planning out some battle damage as well. Not sure how to go about it since im not sure exactly what type of metal would have been used. Ill just do some searching and see what other people have done to there speeder and other space craft.

Thank you, they have many uses for sci fi. One of the reasons for going nutz with em. I have to restrain my self however.

Grumpy [|(]Ok now i am stumped!!!Banged Head [banghead] Banged Head [banghead]I was going to start adding battle damage to the speeder and actually start the painting session but when i got my dremel out I didn't know how to do it.

1.) Is the speeder considered a metal or aluminum alloy?

2.) Does it matter? Or just go about dinging and banging it up?

3.) Would it damage like a WW2 tank?

Like I say i am really confused at this point. I want it to look very used and very old but not sure at this point how or where to start. Any ideas or pointers would be highly appreciated!!!

I doubt anybody can say with certainty what it's body is made from. I would suggest you decide what you think it is made from then style your battle damage along that presumption.

This is true, last night i put some dings and dents in some of the parts to get an idea how they would look. Not to bad, guess ill just go by trail and error using another speeder body and see how it comes out.

It would be Durasteel.

Star Wars expanded universe books use Durasteel and Duraplast for construction.

Might want to look at the studio models of the Speeder, Y-Wing, M Falcon and others for inspiration in doing the damage.

 Hello again Eric,

Hows your project going? The studio model of the speeder had some lazer blasts but not much major damage, ill check out the y-wing and falcon see how they look.

Working on my sub right now.

detailing the forward torpedo tube area and anchor well at the moment.

Once I get some paints I'll be finishing my PBY's.

I saw an interesting model of a MaK vehicle with it up on stands that you might be interested in.

Eric,

Those are some cool stands, also was checking out that website, really cool site, thank you for sharing. Check this out, im thinking of making a dio to look like one of these two:

Im leaning toward the first one but the second one would be easier to model.

Durasteel is correct, but it seems that most battle damage looks like an uneven mini crater into the hull, with a lot of black staining. Remember, they ARE using energy weapons... It's not gonna look like an 88mm shell hit it.

Kinda like this one!!!I too have noticed that they do a lot of distruction, but you are right its like laser blasts. I think that is one of the reasons i have been so reserved about getting it right before i tear it all up. With all the work into it now if i don't practice on scrap plastic i could ruin it.

Eric...

That is the look im leaning towards so far is the first one, really detailed but i think i can make it look something like it when im done. Put the speeder in the middle of it on lifts or those stands. The biggest issue is im going to have to come up with people and not all droids...

EXACTLY!!!!

An excerpt form wookiepedia...

In particle-beam based blasters, like the E-11 used by stormtroopers, a small amount of high-energy gas moved from the heter valve to the chamber commonly called the XCiter. In the XCiter chamber, the gas was energized by the power pack, then passed into the actuating blaster module, which, when assisted by the components in the barrel, processed the now extremely high-energy gas into a compressed beam of intense energy particles, coupled with intense light, which generated the deadly high-energy particle beam fired from most blasters. In these blasters, the combination of superhot laser-light and a compressed bolt of intense energy particles formed the deadly bolt.

This helps with me understand more how to damage the metal. Now when I get a few hours to myself I will do some damage to this baby. But not to much Sad [:(]

Ok base coated the interior and drybrushed the dashboard but need to detail paint and wash the interior, the panels on the body got painted and washed now some detail paint there too. The red on the exterior makes wierd shapes but will be paint overall grey, I didnt think out the painting process and epoxied the panels before i painted them, so now i have to figure out how to mask them for the exterior grey coats.

The tape lines with the red on the outside looks really strange but that will be gone soon as i start the exterior painting.

More to come, i got some more painting done today. After i masked off all the red panels it came to me that i could have painted the body, then mask off the body, and leave the panels open to finish. Oh well. You live and learn.
