Schweinhund227, thank you so much for your kind words and im glad that I could inspire someone to get working on their speeder. Its hard because the kit is so barren just out of the box, they were made real toy-like which im sure was to gear them for the kids to work on them at an early age.

Hopefully i will have some progress pics by this coming monday to post up. I am planning on working on the two tone paint scheme but will see what happens!

Well I do have an update but not much, sunday and monday I was able to put a second coat on the main speeder body and use the salt method to start the weathering. I will have photos uploaded soon to show what I have come up with.

I finished the base coat on all of the parts today and will chip them tomorrow so I can honestly say I will have something to update this week, possibly a final assembly before the final weathering. I'm getting closer to seeing the end of this build. The diorama I was planning will probably be put on hold for a while as other projects have get in the way.

Had an issue with the salt reacting with the primer, having to repaint all of the parts except for the main body. that will set me back several days now.AngryOops

Ok back on track, had one little distraction that i had to finish:

Round 2 lil stogie:

But enough of the distractions!!!now to finish this speeder. I just realized that its been a year since I have started this thread and want to finish it this year. I have almost fixed the paint mess ups and are planing some decals and graphics for the speeder so will have to clear coat so they dont silver. More updates very soon.

Ok here is a quick mock up showing the decals that I choose for this project. I'm getting closer now to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Im beginning to think that I went nuts and went overboard on the salt weathering technique, however at this point not ready to go back and start over. I figure even in space there can be a lot of paint damage due to poor paint adhesion!!!!!

Looks like urban camo. Big Smile

Perhaps it races on a very salty planet.

Before you ask I haven't touched mine in ages, been working on prop stuff and at the moment scratch building a ADAM extractor from Bioshock and doing research for a few other items in the games.

Eric,

Hey, I wont ask, and its good to hear from you. I know you will get back on it when the time comes. I didn't touch mine for ever because of other projects as well.

Urban Camo, now thats an idea! I have decided that with all the time involved already im just gonna leave it that way but finish the weathering and get it finished finally. Hopefully the weathering will help take the starkness away from it. I don't know but we will see here soon.

I swing by the forum every day but have been busy on other projects.

Ever decide on what you where going to do for a base?

Mine was started a while ago but still requires a lot more work.

Eric,

The base has taken a back seat right now. I was planning on making it look like this, but with the size of the speeder it would be too large of a project.  May just make a stand like you suggested in your drawing several pages back.

Well here we go, i have the top of the speeder glued together and did a mock up of what the finished speeder is going to look like. This is before any weathering however.

Heres a few more shots...

Still have to make some seat belts so I wont be putting the thing together yet, and leaving the top and bottom lose will make it easier for some of the weathering... Finally getting somewhere on this build after 1 year!!!

Now, I don't mean (or want) to be nit-picky,but I noticed that it says "Still Smokin'" on top of your speeder. As a Star Wars geek, I couldn't help but wonder...Shouldn't that be in the Star Wars' alphabet? (for the alphabet, google "Basic Alphabet" or "AureBesh")

Other than that, AWESOME job. Bow Down

And, on a final note, do you have any other awesome ideas for paint schemes for a snowspeeder? I just finished building a 1/48th Finemolds Snowspeeder, and have no clue for a paint scheme (it's currently a weathered light grey). Any Suggestions?

Klik,

Not being nit-picky at all, (and thank you for the kudos) I was thinking the same thing about the decals but didnt want to do any custom decals and had decided a while back to not make it exactly along the lines as an exact star wars snowspeeder. Something like a custom science fiction piece.

As far as the paint scheme for the fine molds if you are looking for an exact replica of the movie speeder there are a few nice shots on a few websites that show how the movie model was painted. www.roboterkampf.com/html/props/snowsp.htm or this one http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=18868&highlight=speeder:  Sorry you'll have to copy and paste as Im not sure with the new forum layout how to add the link but those two sites have a good idea for a good scheme for the exact studio model.

Division 6,

Thank you so much! I had my snowspeeder painted up as the base grey for the Gray stripe, in fact. But, I did not have any super detailed pics of that caliber. Now I'm ready to grey stripe it up!

Thank you Shawn M.,

Yours is awesome too,  I like the weathering, is the black around the ends of the guns pastels or powders, or paint?

I need to weather mine and thats where im at a loss. Im not sure how to go about it with it looking like a toy.
