Well here are some new pics of the work I have done recently.  Here is the forecastle work.....windless and steps.

I built the aft rail...to include turned nurrels and rail cap..then painted white.

I deliberated if I should build the poop cabin first........but the rail needed to go in first then the cabin..which will be made from extremely thin plywood veneer..  I installed the forecastle steps and the windless as well.  I'll add the gunnels soon......and then I'll align the shrouds and drill and fit the shainplates at their proper angle...then instal the deadeyes.

I'll post images this evening.

Mike..I'm glad you're enjoying it.  Since there are no other large scale plastic clipper models being produced by the manufacturers......I did the next best thing.  I really like to reengineer these kits to my own purpose...and since the general structure is the same with nearly all clipper ships...mods can be made to correct the differences.  It's having the basic sub structure to begin with.

today, I finished building the poop deck...scribed in all the decking and then stained and weathered it.  I then applied dull coat sealant to seal the weathering powder.   I'm really waiting for the 3 books I ordered on the Glory of the Seas...so I can get the fine details just right....and a good set of hull plans and deck details will be of much assistance.  Once I get the deck houses and furniture installed and the catheads and rail........I'll probably go back to the Ferreira and do some work on her.  I so much like the build aspect...from scratch and from modifying kit parts...that rigging seams mundane.

Anyway...I hope others are enjoying this too......seams like I'm doing all the talking and blabbering......guess that is the way it is..when you are the builder of scratch ships.

I repainted the exterior of the rails so they are black as the ship was and the teak rail is exposed on the top and the inside.  I also reinforced and braced the poop decks substructure and then cut the deck and prefit....perfect.  Tomorrow..I'll scribe the deck planks into the poop deck.......Luv this ship and build.

I hope others are enjoying the adventure..and the build log.

Here is an old image of the actual figurehead when she was mounted and painted white.

Did some more mods to the cheek and filled in the outer rim I had to remove to install the figurehead...fresh paint covers the fix...I think the job looks pretty good.....being it is all scratch built.

Hand carved the figurehead ....utilizing the parts from HO scale figures and then hand carving the body and arms

Forcastle deck installed

Maple veneer  that will be the decks of the poop and forcastle.....I have loads of this from when I worked in a doll house factory in Oregon.  Maple, mahogany, oak,  great building material.

Along the length of the hull..with the newly modified rudder installed.  I will paint the rail just aft of the mizzen white after the carved rail posts are installed and the new rail cap as well.  But first the poop and forcastle need to be installed next.  This is all scratch built.  I think the model is coming along nicely..and it is as accurate as I can make it.

More work on the Glory today...I finished painting the gunwalls and staining the rail.

The American Heritage Clipper Ships and Captains by Jane D. Lyon.One of my fave books as a kid that i recently bought on Amazon for a very low price but the book was in excellent condition!

What book did you take that image from...I have the  picture too...but what book?

Yep...just down the road from my place.....you can still see remains of her hull at low tide.

I love this ship and I am having a blast creating her.

She ended up being a fish storage ship before she was burned for her copper.Sad end to a great ship!Took place in 1923,       

Finished adding the teak rail and finished staining it as well......now I am going through my vaneer collection looking for the right material for the forcasle deck and the poop deck.  I found some nice thin sheets of maple...bout 3.5" wide by less then a milometer thick...I'll frame in the decks first.

I also modified the CS rudder..added material to make it look like Glory's rudder and coppered , painted and installed it.   Fun fun fun..

I began to paint the gunall white inside.......I'll finish that tomorrow and then begin building the for and poop decks.........sweet.

Glory of the Seas...NOT the Cutty Sark any longer.  I have changed the rake of the bow(coppered it), reconfigured  the length of the cheek beek, added new bowsprit and jib boom, added gunwall framing...entended the entire hight of the gunwall....and added the planksheer around the hull........sweeewww.

And a closer look...I do have individual planks scored..I have to add highlights to bring them out.
