Converting the 1/96 Cutty Sark into the Glory of the Seas

Thanks Jim...I'm looking forward to making the composite steel strapped  for/main/mizzen masts..

McKay didn't use solid masts, from a single tree...nor did he use steel riveted masts such as did the British.   The rigging will be fun...kinda like my recently finished Cutty Sark.

The deck houses and deck furniture will all be scratch made as well...so too will the turned spindle railings.  I just finished laying the wood main deck..to cover over the wrong CS deck.

You are doing some nice work. Going to watch this build closely. The rigging is going to be very interesting.

A little bit closer view...I love the paint color.  I need to rebuild the deck...does anyone know where I can get deck material that I can cut to fit?

I painted the copper...well a cool metallic color.......it  looks awesome..I think

Thanks Steve...this conversion is very extensive.....American clippers are not built like their British counterparts.  I had to utilize all my resources to make the conversion as accurate at possible.  Since Tacoma/Seattle was her last home..I dug up some old images from the University and local historians....plus my own extensive library had several out of circulation images I found very helpful.

I used self adhesive copper tape...and I will be painting the copper with a brilliant oxide metallic paint.  I use flat black from Ace.....their brand is quite black and very flat....and inexpensive too.

Very nice work Rob.  What paint did you use on the hull?  It's a beautiful flat finish.  Also, what did you use for coppering the addition on the bow, self sticking copper tape?

Another angle...I found this really cool paint that looks just like the old oxidized copper/munx plates after they are in salt water......:)   After I finish steaming the rail and install it, I will paint the sheathing.

Some more mods and corrections on the Glory of the Seas.   I had to rethink and redo the copper on the addon of the bow (I had to remove some of the lines that the old bow showed through the copper)and I added some more detail along the gunwall.

Changing the rake of the bow..by adding stock...I'll copper plate next.

Did a bit more work cleaning up the anchor skid.....the Glory didn't have one.

This is just the beginning....and I have lots more sanding and filling and final touch ups to do..but you can see the change.
