Steve,

If I can insert my two cents, part of me would recommend using what you have so far as a mule. Practice your scratching ideas, etc... and any other work you have ideas for on the smaller MF. Then if you make a mistake it won’t bother your u as much.

When you are ready to start on the larger MF, you now have experience to build on to make that MF even more fabulous.

Hi Steve, actually, that is what I was thinking as well. What I am thinking is rather than finish the smaller one to the bitter end, I can use the smaller one as the "mule" to test things on whilst I work on building the bigger one.

But--before then...

I am unhappy with how my paint work came out on the first build; it is not what I was looking for. Some things were ok, but in general, it was phooey. Learning the weathering process is where I spent most of my day banging my head against the wall. It's far easier to paint a ship to look new, it's whole other thing making it look convincingly old. At least for me that is true, and the latter is still my goal.

I still don't have a good grip on the weathering/paint process, but I did learn some things in the two years since. I have some new ideas to try and I already have some parts in a bath. I'll strip those of paint and do more testing. If I can't get the look I am looking for on the mule, then I am not ready to pass go and collect $200.

Btw... I was looking at your Revell 1/90 Nina thread again, and as always, it inspires me. It inspired me pre-Mayflower build, and it inspires me now. You did such a neat job on those.

I love old sailing ships.
