Seems to me Steve it would be a pretty steep angle without that platform, plus you'd be stepping onto the cannon to get to the ladder. The Mcnary model, the Wyille model and the other model at the NMM clearly show the platforms.

I need a little help from the learned fraternity please . I found this model of the victory 1765 , and it seems to show that their was ladder's down to the quarter deck from the poop deck , not the landing platform on the 1805 version , am I reading this right guy's

bob , I was lucky , as I had a spare set of hammock's from another kit , I just joined two together , and painted . I know some other modeler's have used milliput .
if you are interested , dafi , has a magnificent set of photo etch for the victory , it's expensive but , well worth it . if you click onto it their is even a PDF for each sprue , on how to apply and modeler's tip's .

no rob I don't , I have been following a modeler on pete coleman's site , michaelD , but all of his photo's have disappeared , and he hasn't posted in a while , so I don't know what's happened to him .If you have any I would love to see them mate .
PS- I forgot to mention , that dafi has sent me some very nice images of model's , done around that time , which have been a big help .

had a look at the boat's in place , I thought i would have been on the rigging by now , but I forgot how many small bit's and piece's their are on this boat , with the alteration's I'm way behind
Lol. I hear you, and I know the feeling. Hang in there on this. You are doing fantastic. I wish I had your ship knowledge and skills. I would love to build a masted ship. Maybe one day. For now, I will enjoy yours.

Steve I'm sure they would be proud to have them as part of Grandpa's build, they look great as with the rest of your build mate. The amount of modifications nesessary for this conversion is a lot work and that in it's self is worth kudo's and a few raised glasses on what you've accomplished so far Steve.

started on the bow , sadly I don't have michael's sculpting ability , so the decoration's will be slightly different , still trying to sculpt the main figure head [sigh] . found some brass strip , I don't think it look's too bad .
Steve, you have me beat so many times & the only thing I do is build fast everyone thinks. I don't mean to, I just sit and scrape & sand each piece like everyone. I just pick easy ships to build. I went thru 1000 hour wooden ships 35 years ago. Loved them.
I am about to post my Imai Spanish Galleon, now & it is neat & easy, except for all those hull decorations. It does look neat tho. I have the hull done & the sails decaled. I really sweated those big sail decals, because they were old & made the ship. I coated them with Microscale decal film before I put them on & it is great.
If you haven't got one , get one because it might now be my favorite model. It is really pretty with all the hull detail color.
cheer's rob , I'm going to try a wooden build one day , don't think I will emulate any of your's , but that's the fun of it .
gene , I'm the other way , mostly all our major cities are next to the ocean . one day I might be able to build as neat as you .

Steve, you do a beautiful job on all your ships & riverboats. I am so glad to hear you say you don't know much about boats. I am the same way & don't like the ocean, even tho I lived next to it for 40 years. As soon as I could get away from it I moved to the side of a mountain where there are no floods or hurricanes. I have always loved to build ship models tho.I have built a bunch too.
Wonderful work Steve..and magnificent modification of the stern. It's a rare thing to be able to make the mods you want in a current model to replicate the era you are seeking. I do that all the time in my clippers. Very good job.

The rope goes through the Mizzen channel behind the 3rd deadeye from aft close to the side and up to the poop deck where it's belayed to a cleat.

Your build is developing beautifully. I commend you for your extra work and detailing. It's paying off. I'll certainly be along for the ride until she's your commissioned HMS Victory.
As a note to Bob ...
With regard to James Lees' book "The Masting and Rigging of English Ships of War 1625-1860". As I told Steve, it was John Tilley (I really miss his posts!) having mentioned that book several times that motivated me to have it in my library.
You already know from its title that it won't necessarily help you to the nth degree when building your USS Constitution but it certainly should be of help for any English sailing ships of war. I suppose in modeling terms as far as kits go it would be HMS Vicory, and ? But, after having read your bio, I suppose it should be fine reference material if you plan to build an English ship of war from scratch.
