part 2

and then some gadgets, paint and just a start of weathering, staining, and wear and tear.

and then some more gadgets and painting in the pit. added just a bit of wear and tear for the flooring and such as well.

dont look like much but it took a while. still a ways to go on this but progress is progress.

till next time.

The canopy armored glass section was a real PITA bu I think I got it sorted.

I tried to simulate the framing inside the windshield with sprue and paint.

With that on I can now start prepping for primer :-)

Okay so after a little bit of time, I've finally got enough done here on this rudder and horizontal stabilizer/elevators to post.  I scratch built all of this since it was absent on the kit.  Here goes:

Here is a view of the elevators.  They've been cut and dressed up a bit.  I plan on putting her in a dive when I mount it so it requires me to adjust their position.

Here is a view of one completed.  I wanted to show both so I left one unglued for the time being.

These two show a detail of the trim tab actuator.

Here's the rudder.  I've added the rudder horn and trim tab actuator (other side). Also the rod that allows it to rotate is visible and often not molded correctly.  So here I cut out the space for it and included it. Also, I needed to build up the interior since it will be somewhat visible as it's no longer molded to the fuselage.

I poked a very tiny hole here from underneath to place a very small diameter brass rod (I'll check the size later) in place and glued it down with CA to secure safely.

So here you can see a detail of the brass rod making up the rudder horn and trim tab.

I have a little bit of mess to clean up here. It's one of the things I do my best to avoid but inevitably it happens.

There's some really nice work going on I this GB!
The detailing on the fuselage and rudder/elevators is really something Joe...

I'd like to get in on this build as well if possible....I'd like to do the Academy Tomahawk IIB, in 1/48....and if time allows the Monogram P 40B as well. I'm just waiting for some AM stuff to arrive.

Okay, I just ordered my P-40...  It's a P-40B done up as Greg Boyington's AVG bird.  I'm thinking about doing a dual/split diorama with one of his Corsairs (883) sitting next to his Warhawk (21).  I thinking the contrast between the tanish sand of China and the White coral of the Solomon's might look neat...  I don't know, thoughts???

Got the port side finished up tonight, sorry if the photo's buzzy:

Next I'll set up the rudder pedals, and appendages that go underneath the IP, then paint and finish.

Ray...I wouldn't be too quick to give up on the crash theme on the hill top.  That could be epic! =]

theuns you are making good and steady progress.  i like what you have done with the windscreen.

bvallot this is the 1/32 trump.  the same kit theuns is working on.  you are making very good progress.  nicely done with the rudder.

jason many thanks.

ray that sounds good.  several years ago i did both of them and had the opportunity to give them to the niece of pappy boyington.  they were not the greatest builds but his niece and her husband seemed to like them.

mississippi that looks like a busy pit area.

steve many thanks.

Bv, I really like what you're doing with that old Revell P-40!  I have one that I started several months ago, but has been on the shelf for a while.  I scratch built the cockpit interior and wheel wells and have begun the camo.  Maybe I'll finish this one up soon.

Wonderful! I'd like to see it.  That's the one you're doing here for this GB right?  What's the story with the backwards droptank?  Looks intriguing...

Bv,

My Revell P-40 isn't my official build for this GB, but I thnk I will finish it up as a bonus build.  I'm doing the Eduard P-40N as my official entry.  The kit sprues say Mauve on them - I've never build a Mauve kit but the test fit looks really good.  The resin cockpit and bits are really nice too.

I don't know what the deal is with the backwards drop tank in the box art.  I can't tell if this is just a mistake or if it was actually hung on the plane that way.  The P-40 in the background looks to like it had it's drop tank on correctly.  One thought that I had was that maybe this was not a fuel tank but a napalm tank.  I know napalm was used towards the end of the war, so who knows.

Here's the pic again - has anyone seen this before?

Man I love those screaming skulls flying through the air. Must've been a sight to see. Sounds like a Henry Rollins song in the making to me! =D   I'll see what I can find out myself too.

Ok so I made my pick I'm going with the hobby craft P-40f/l it's in 1/48  I can't put any pics do to there's no tool bar for posting pics or anything else on forums for me.. Calambach and fine scale are trying to figure it out.

So I'll post soon as I can.

The p_40 is from Tunisia 1943 the kit Doesn't say but I think it's the 325th checkertails the paint is unique in the way that the hole a/c is black with red in other area's with the yellow checkertails.

It was a toss up between this and revells p-40 the paint job sold this one.

I here the Edward is a nice kit I would definitely like to have that one. Maybe eBay since Edward doesn't list it anymore. I'm a p-40 junkie. Lol

Love the Burma Banshee birds.  I've drooled over that Eduard kit for a while.

As far as the drop tank goes, there is a picture of that A/C (49) with it mounted that way.  I will try to find it for you.

Hey Chanter - I actually found a pic of this aircraft with the drop tank on like the box art.  Google P-40N Joanne and it's one of the first pics.  Thanks!

well after a couple of productive days in the bunker i have some progress to report.

first up, redo on the painted fuel tank. made it less worn out.

notice i have also put in a couple of lines. not sure if they will be seen but i figure i better do them anyway.

next up was some of the little things that can get knocked off. cowl flap handle and assembly and the handle on the starboard floor.

now you will notice i have now started the seat frame. i have also constructed the seat. not much fun. lots of four letter words and such. that is for the next update though.

thats it for now.
