They do seem a bit expensive. I don't know what scale they are, but that's about the same price as the 72nd FM kits. I just looked on E-bay and they are about the same price on this side of the pond.

I think with the recent SW cartoons and upcoming movie it's becoming popular again. Plus you factor in Disney's buyout and their marketing ability, the prices for Star Wars items will start to rise again. I am seeing this in the sideshow figures that I try to buy.

ye, I think your right there. Disney haven't wasted any time either. I got an R2-D2 mug for Christmas that had the Disney lark on it.  No doubt with the new movies there will be some new subjects for the model companies and the prices of those will no doubt be higher.

WOW! I'm MIA for a few weeks, and already someone's finished not one, but Two TIEs? Outstanding job there.

I'm busy on a couple ships, but when they're wrapped up, I'm starting my Falcon.

By the way, Bandai is an excellent model company. Based off my experience with their Gundam line of models, you can expect simple, easy construction that maximizes the ease of painting and gluing, with fun extras thrown in, just because.

I agree klik, Bandai has some good Gundam kits if you get the master grade or better. There smaller kits are more toyish and that's what concerns me about the star wars kits. That being said, some of the Revel kits are rather toyish   but can be made (with some effort) into a nice model.

Bish,

If you'll have me I'd like to join in with my Fine Molds 1/48 X-wing fighter. Got it for Xmas and it is one that  I don't want to sit and collect dust. So, I just  as well build it now.

Well, if you feel you really really have to build it, you might as well do it here.

Glad to have you on board, will add you to the roster.

OK,

After try after try and frustration after frustration with the paint pulling off every time I masked it, I finally got it. I had to sand it all down and re-prime and I used enamel this time instead of acrylic. I just need to paint the guns the mechanical cylinder thingies on the sides and do some weathering.

What Acrylic paint were you using.

I was using Tamiya. I believe it was more my fault. I wanted to show some metal under the chipped paint (why a civilization that has FTL can't figure out how to stop paint from peeling is beyond me) so I sprayed Lacquer metalizer as a base coat. I think that was the problem. Although I have had a peeling problem with the Tamiya before. I will be using Vallejo acrylics on the Indianapolis, I hope I don't run into the same issue.

Steve, That tank looks great. I forget, is that the AAT? I like the color scheme you have there.

I think I used Tamiya when I first built one. I can't recall what colours I used, but I think it looked the same as yours. You have done a nicer paint job though, looks really nice.

Oh they have you mix 20% of this .05% of that 72.5% of this other color bla, bla, bla. I just used Radom Tan as my base, added a little Dark Tan for the medium color and a little more Dark Tan for the dark color. I'm not real happy with the medium color. I think it's too dark, but I'm not about to redo it. Besides, it's all going to get darker anyway when I weather it.

That's it, its been years since I built it and I haven't look at the instructions on the new ones I bought. I think its turned out nicely. Looking forward to the weathering. I didn't do any when I built mine, all I did on my armour at the time was dry brushing and some pastels.

Yup, it's an AAT - Armoured Attack Tank (I think it's funny that the spell check picks me up for armour, LOL Stick out tongue)

I tried a new technique of paint chipping. What do you think? Do I need to do more?
I need to run it through the wash and dirty it up some. Ha, you see what I did there?

I rather like that chipping. I was to sure looking at the first pic, but its a lot clearer in the last one and I can see what you have done there. I think that's about right.

I actually chipped the paint with an Xacto knife. First time I tried it. I think it looks real.....I guess because it is.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll put it through the wash.

I'm also going to try an oil wash, which is also a new technique for me. I bought some Windsor and Newton Raw Umber oils, as suggested by Tucohoward and JMorgan. I'm anxious to give it a try. I would love to get close to these results, but maybe not as severe.

Steve, if your not to sure about using washes, you might want to just try a pin wash. The effects achieved on those two pics go way beyond just a wash.

Great job on that AAT, Steve!

I'm kind of a (HUGE) Star Wars Nerd, so if you want any more info on that tank, feel free to ask.

In my opinion, the weathering is spot-on, but if you want to really match it to what was "on-screen", I suggest you re-watch Episode 1. They're heavily featured in the Battle of Naboo.

Klik

P.S. I think I'll pull out my Falcon and get it started this week, if I've got time.

Thanks Kilk. I watched the battle yesterday with my grandson. It's one of the coolest designs in Star Wars IMHO. My wife and I really enjoy watching "Clone Wars" where the tank is featured several times, all be it in cartoon form, but still they do a very good job with it, again IMHO.

I did dirty it up some with an oil wash, pin wash and pastel treatment. I hope I didn't go too far.

All I have to do now is attach it to my signature vignette base, then take some better pics and call it done. I just wish I could have found an affordable, i.e. used, Battle Droid to put in the hatch.

Edit: I forgot the antennas. I gota put those on.

That silly little thing? Na, I'm going to put it on my usual wood base, floating over grass, with a clear plastic rod for support.

Ye, that's what I was thinking of doing as well, maybe go with some bushes and a some other vegetation. I did use the kit base first time round, but now I have moved on with my modelling, I would like to do something better. Can't wait to see yours.

I used a clear rod for a 72nd Imperial Probe Droid I built a couple of years ago. The Droid doesn't hide the rod as much as the tank would do, but with some tall vegetation, its quite effective.
