The 2017/ 2018 Too Little Too Late Group Build

I think it's definitely one of those designs that perfectly embodies the theme of our group build here.

Quick update on my Gustav.  Got some primer on, but it's behaving badly.  Really need to dump this mix I've been working/fighting  with for over a year now.  A concoction of lacquer thinner, Tamiya liquid surface primer, and a few drops of Alcad's gloss black.  That black is the bad batch that was released I don't know how many years ago, but somehow a poor effort was made of recalling the product.  Been trying to get rid of it in small doses, but just does not want to dry and remains a tacky mess.

Did a small test, and seems Tamiya's lacquer thinner (with the yellow cap) should be safe on plastic surfaces, unlike store bought brands which melt styrene.  Can anyone here confirm?

Jack, I've never had an issue with Tamiya lacquer on plastic. I actually just used some this evening to clean some polishimg compound/future chunk I had on a clear part and it didn't seem to negatively affect it. donyou just want to use it to clean up the nasty primer off?

Thank you rooster513 i used very thinned model master enamel several light coats. Well remove masking tomorrow

Andy, yes Tamiya lacquer thinner to remover the primer, and as you said it works like a charm.  I used about ten cotton swabs and a cap full of the thinner.  Dipping one end and wetting the primed surface, and then using the dry end to further clean up.

I've also read up on Tamiya liquid surface primer, and apparently if thinned too much for spraying will result in a tacky finish that does not want to dry.  Suggestion is to go 50/50.

crown, looking good there.

Well I finally finished this one up! Overall fit of this kit was very good and I enjoyed doing the freehand camo, mottling and markings. I'll of course be following along closely and hopefully I'll even jump in with another build!

removed the masking tthis a.m. give the paint a couple of days to dry then some touch up here 

Been gone on a vacation for the last 5 days in beautiful Lake Texoma and within .5 mile of where I spent alot of time with my grandparents growing up as a kid. Familiar sights, sounds and general environment. Had a complete blast with my brother , his wife & kids as well as my mom, dad and my 90 year old grandmother who used to live there but now lives with my mom and dad. Awesome experience.

Chad: Wow dude!!! I really like those Hortens to start with and you've done a magnificant job on replicating not only a wonder of an aircraft but also one that I've never seen with the Fug antennaes on the front and rear. I'm glad you have been a part of this GB and have really enjoyed your build here.

Johnny: Man I love those Doras and that paint work is looking sharp. Glad to see that you're getting you image posting dilemma worked out. Looks like alot of folks are in deep with that.

Andy: Beautiful job on that Schwalbe!!! Paint work and decaling are flat out fabulous!! Glad to be partnered up with you on this GB. You're a great co-host buddy!!

Nick: That's gotta be one of the smoothest paint jobs I think I've ever seen on an aircraft build man. Masking and paint are right up there with the best I've seen so far.

Doug that's the perfect name. It about sums it up for me every time I see 1.

I wish I could remember the name of the company I built 1 with probably 1/72 and in the mid 70s. Just always thought of it as a crazy idea for a aircraft.

It's late here in my neck of the woods, but since this is the last full night of my vacation I decided to spend it in the workshop. And wouldn't ya know it? I finished my 262! I spent two days last week applying the numerous decals to my jet. There was quite a bit of silvering with these decals, and I did my best to solve the problem where I could. After they were sealed under a clear coat, I weathered the model. But I kept in mind that these night fighter variants were only in use for the last month of the war, so I kept the weathering on the lighter side. I chose to use a light gray acryilic wash for panel lines. I sealed the whole thing off with a dull coat and called it a night. I did however realize that I forgot to take a photo of the underside of the jet! I'll put one up tomorrow because I've spent enough time in the workshop for today, and my bed is looking mighty comfy right about now! I'm looking forward to seeing all of your other builds come to fruition!

Now that's one cool 262!  Great job on that camo!
