Would you mind changing my entry from a '55 to a '57 street rod.
That is what I signed up for in the first place.

Thank you

You know, I kept thinking there was a sticky on what Group Builds are. Apparently there isn't, but there should be as this question gets asked a lot.

No cost, it's just a group of people building a similar interest in a certain amount of time. Each group build has it's own rules or not, it's own time requirements or not, etc. etc. See the first page for the general guidelines.

The only thing that is common between them is everyone is required to have fun and post images of the final product when they're finished.

PakNick is the big cheese on this particular build, so he'll give you more info.

by the way, the wife dragged me out to a store called big lots mostly stuff like cups bowls flowers etc. but to my surprise they had a tool section I found mini clamps like the quick clamp only smaller. much smaller. 99 cents. they work perfect. then dremmel bits lots of them for 99 cents. they had micro drill bits too. next time she goes out to big lots again I will be there.

Scored big time

Some people may not show the badge until they've completed the build, some will show it even if they haven't Angry [:(!], some don't care Tongue [:P], I only show the badge once I've started on the build. It's up to you.

I have the engine started. This is going to take more work than I had planned to do on this. All of the chrome engine parts (the blower in particular) have big nasty seams in them and have sunken spots that will require filler. So, what I have done is stripped all of the chrome plate off and I'm going to replace it with foil. By this time next week I may be a raving lunatic, but it's all in the name of fun. With all of the work to be done getting the engine to look right, I'm not going to wire it unless everything starts going together smoothly. I'm afraid I'm going to have to rate AMT down close to the bottom with Hobbycrap as far as detail and fidelity too scale goes. The only thing that is accurate in this whole kit is the body, although I have some doubts about the shape of the rear window area. This is not going to build up into an accurate representation of Dom's car in the movie. Whats really bad is my wife bought all of the kits of the cars from the movie and now she expects me too build them. I think I would have rather stuck with the wingy thingies.

"So, what I have done is stripped all of the chrome plate off and I'm going to replace it with foil."

You sure you want to use foil? It will be a pain to use foil on such small parts. I would recommend using Alcad chrome. It would be a lot easier.

My progress:
I am nearly finished with the engine for the Revell 31 Model A. All I have to do is give it a second coat of red and assemble it. The suspension has been built, but not painted. I plan on gluing it to the frame and then painting the whole thing red. I am using MM gloss red lacquer which gives a very nice look. I just wish that I remembered to sand the primer on the engine before painting it. Oh well, no one will see it close up.

AMT Car kits are better engineered than Revell Car kits, but their moldings are pretty bad. I had a Revell 36 Ford, but the body went together like square pegs in round holes, so I bought the AMT one.

Well nevermind those pictures. My camera is a complete piece of shit. I'll have to buy a disposable and use 27 pictures before I can show any.

Progress report: See my signature Banged Head [banghead]

Supply shipment #2 is killing me on both the Cuda and P-51D. Censored [censored]Censored [censored] On the bright side, I have confirmation it's being packaged and shipped. Note to self, order hard to find AM parts ahead of time.

Progress Report:

I can vouch for Ryans comment above about Revell car kits not being too well engineered. Suspension is mostly together, no real problems. Engine is coming together more slowly - lots of parts that just don't seem to fit too well. Lots of trimming and filing and Censored [censored]. It's getting there slowly though but is holding up progress elsewhere. The interior is not too bad so far - did the first part of the interior detailing today. I have my suspicions about the interior of the doors though. After an attempted quick dry fit, I found they don't really - more trimming and messing to come I think. As for fitting the engine, suspension and interior together, well, I'm not expecting it to go too smoothly. The body has about 3 coats of red on it. Tried to gloss it last night but just achieved a blocked airbrush...hmm. I think I have to rough up the surface again and try something slightly different. I'll submit a few photos once I have the engine finally assembled - I may add some wiring after that, depends how it all goes.

So can I. Almost evry part of my challanger motor is a lousy fit. most infamous is the three duece carbs. had to completely mill down the two halves and build them back up. the A M T kit not much beeter though. the body has a huge dent it the top and filler is the word of the day. probably a week or more before any primer is put down on it.

I use Photobucket. Once I figured that out, it was pretty easy to post pictures.

Good luck, can't wait to see other's progress.
