Allright. I would love to ask something Star Wars but I'll pace myself.

In the origional "Lost in Space", How does Dr. Zachary Smith (Dead [xx(]) get onboard the Robinsin's Jupiter 2? (Bonus! Why did he come abord?)

Ummm, he hid himself in Angela Cartwright's cleavage?

Dangit, and I got a good question too...

I think he was on board trying to sabotage the ship when it took off.

Bingo. He snuck abord on one of the acceleration couches on the lower deck to reprogram the "Bubble-headed Booby" aka robot to destroy the Jupiter 2 like 8 hours into the flight. Your turn viper_mp!

Anyway, Vader's ship was the TIE Advanced X-1. It also had shields and a class 4 hyperdrive. As a piece of trivia, I think that the MPC/AMT model of it provided the wings for TIE Bombers in other movies. It has been around for quite some time.

Yes, it did, in E IV and E V. Lucas Film didn't come right out and say they used AMT/ERTL parts; what they did say is that they utilized "several commercially-available plastic model kits." It doesn't take too many brains to figure out that the only commercially-available plastic kits in 1980 were the AMT/ERTL kits.

I, myself, am not a Star Wars geek (I lean more toward Star Trek, actually); however, I am surrounded by Star Wars geeks, in particular my wife (she's the only person I know who would purposely sneak a tape recorder into a movie theater so that she could record E IV!).

as the thread rules state, you may ask ANY Sci-fi related question as long as A) its your turn, B) its not such an obscure bit of info that next to nobody  can guess or research online or whatever.

so when its your turn, hit us with those Trek tech questions if that what ya know. I myself am a long time fan of starfleets finest. Cool [8D]

Ok, this is a Trek one.  Which federation ships have the ability to seperate into multiple parts? [going from not just film, but also tech manuals and literature]

Are you talking about a certain class? I think Galaxy class could.

Yes, the Galaxy class and, in STTOS, the Dreadnought class were capable of "separated flight mode"; both halves of the ship were capable of independent flight. There was an "emergency bridge" in the forward portion of the Engineering Section, identical to the main bridge in the saucer module. The Enterprise in TOS never actually separated, but I believe it did in one of the movies (don't remember which one).

I think the movie was "The Search for Spock". Been a long time though.

The TOS enterprise never seperated in the show or the movies. in the search for spock she self-destructed, thats why you see half the sauser missing, it blew up.

still working on my answer to the question.

I've seen a reference which stated that basically any starship class with a discrete saucer section should be able to separate.

The Constitution Class was designed so that the saucer could separate from the rest of the ship in an emergency. However, re-integration required shipyard facilities.

The Excelsior (Enterprise-B), Ambassador (Enterprise-C) and Sovereign (Enterprise-E) classes are said to be capable of saucer separation, but this has not been seen "on screen".

The Galaxy class (Enterprise-D) has been seen to separate in several episodes of TNG and in the movie "Generations".

The Prometheus class, seen in one episode of Voyager, separates into three sections.

Combined, you guys almost have it.  Remember, I said it didnt have to be SEEN ON SCREEN, but it could be mentioned or even in a tech manual or book.  It just had to be official.

So far you guys have:

  • Constitution Class
  • Dreadnaught Class
  • Excelsior Class
  • Ambassador Class
  • Galaxy Class
  • Sovereign Class
  • Prometheus Class
You are missing 3 more.  And they are not conventional seperations like the Galaxy.

Ok, here goes....

the missing ships are,

Nebula Class - Commander Riker is said to have done this prior to the first time he does it in TNG.

Enterprize Class- Its from a book I think.... anywho, it has a muli-vector assault mode like the promethius class.

Cheyeanne class- same general shape as the constitution class and has a different nacelle layout.

and a little bit of info on that there "Dreadnaught class", it is called Federation class...

Hmmm, actually Puma, those weren't the ones I was refering to.  But I learned something.  I wasnt aware the Nebula class was mentioned to be MVAM capable. [seperates].  Since its been a few days, and most of the question has been answered, I'll yield the floor to another question.

By the way, the ones i was refering to were:

  • Voyager class - had a second ship that seperated from the hull [Aeroshuttle].
  • Nova Class- same thing [Waverider].  Just like the Prometheus, Galaxy, and Sovereign.  They all had secondary ships docked IN the hull, not just a shuttlebay.
  • and lastly...Defiant class.  The forward section was a "Warhead" and would break away for a last ditch kamakazi assault.  It did have its own bridge and engines.

I'm gonna beam it over to Phil, since he had the most correct ships.

Okay, another "Trekkie" question: Who were the "Jefferies Tubes" named after in the the Original Series (TOS)?
