I guess I was half a sleep when I read the answer so long ago, but our moderator was actualy right! there were only 2 made, the first was made for Aliens and then re-worked for Resurection. the same one was used as a reference for the queen in the first AvP movie.

as for my Avatar, its Daimos, a super robot from the late 70's. also one of my favorites.

Here goes:

In what 1990 movie does a combat robot lay waste to an artist's New York apartment? And what is the robot's bibically inspired designation?

Movie was "Hardware".

Lemmy from Motorhead was in it, and the soundtrack had Ministry on it (was the first place I ever heard them, now I'm a fan...)

The hero was named Moses, and I think the robot's name was Mark 13, relating to a passage in the bible about the apocalypse or something...

The inspiration for the story came from a 2000 AD/Judge Dredd comic (I think).

In the early 1990s, it was also an inspiration for "The Hardware Award", an award me and my friends would bestow annually on the worst sci-fi movie of the year.

The Hardware Award's title was later changed to "The Highlander 2 Award".

"Highlander 2: The Sickening - There should have been only one..."

Hey Aaron, will there be any sci-fi in this year's Great Scale Modeling Annual?

Very good. Yeah, Ministry I still catch myself humming "Stigmata" from time to time. I actually enjoyed the movie in a strange way. The biblical line they use in reference to the MARK 13 is "no flesh shall be spared." I am also a big fan of Judge Dredd (the British comic book, not the abbysmal Stallone movie) but it's hard to find here.

So on the Cosmic J.

PS There is some science fiction from every show in GSM except AMPS if I remeber correctly. Look for the superdetailed scratchbuilt escape pod from "Star Wars" in the IPMS/Nats coverage.

I kinda found Hardware entertaining too. It was one of those really bad movies that you somehow can't turn off... but don't tell my friends I said so. Whistling [:-^]

I've picked up GSM every year since '98, love 'em. Getting this one too, just was hoping for some of my favorites, ya know?

Here's an easy one:

In "Army of Darkness", the hero Ash is instructed to say what phrase before handling the dreaded Necronomicon, and from what sci-fi movie does that phrase originate?

The phrase is Klaatu barada nikto, spoken by the character of Klaatu.  It's from The Day The Earth Stood Still. Ash, of course, forgets the words.

As a somewhat interesting aside - and totally Star Wars geeky - three of the background characters on Jabba the Hutt's sail barge in "Return of the Jedi" each had one of those words as their names.

Day the Earth stood still is awesome! Kinda a corny 60's anti-war peace thingy but good plot. Gort is the best! Michael Rennie is good too. About the Star Wars thing, just noticed it! Gotta tell this one to my friend! (Hope he doesn't see this thread... Whistling [:-^])

Yeah, "Day" is one of my favorite SciFi classics and Rennie really sold the role of Klaatu, IMNSHO! And Gort...  There's a really kewel short story I read about "Day" that takes place somewhere in the middle of the main story, at the point where Gort resurrects Klaatu inside the ship.  I've got some trepidition about this upcoming movie w/Keanu Reeves.

BTW, Point of Order, tho - "Day" was made in 1951!  Well before the "Peacenik" movement got in to full swing in the early-to-mid-60's. Think I'll put it in here in a couple minutes and take the time to work on a model w/it in the background, tho....

Can't immediatley think of anything all that clever to go with for a Trivia Question right now that's not too easy or inanely hard.  How 'bout you take up the banner for me, Boba Fett and ask the next question?  Big Smile [:D]

Well, since I asked the last one and nobody stepped up, here's another easy one:

Who programmed the HAL 9000 computer?

Nobody stepped up, huh...?  Yer a funny guy. Wink [;)]

Dr. Chandra programmed HAL 9000 and his instructor was Mr. Langley. Smile [:)]

My question, since I can't pass it on to someone else:

What was the name of Jack Burton's truck in Big Trouble In Little China?

Big Smile [:D] Heehee! Ain't I a stinker? You know I'm only playin'. I just enjoy getting your goat; what's that, like three or four of them now? I'm gonna have to start a farm... Big Smile [:D]

I hear ya though, it's hard coming up w/ a question that's not too obscure, or that someone can just google up the answer to.

Next!

Not sure how you think you got my goat, but sure, you can have them all.  They're free, after all.  Wink [;)]

Oh, heck yeah!  My favorite Kurt Russell and John Carpenter flick.  Heck, half of the cast of that movie is in a couple of Carpenters other flicks, with a bunch being in "Prince of Darkness".  Plus, lots of awesome one-liners, perfect witty banter, excellent action, Kim Catrall, tons of laughs and an exploding man!  Doesn't get much better'n that on a dark and rainy night! Laugh [(-D]

Anyhow, congrat's!  I was trying to make it to where it wasn't too hard, but wasn't too easy, either.

So, go on with yer bad self and stump us! Smile [:)]

Been away from this thread a while, so I skipped ahead to the last page.  I know it was a while ago that you were dealing with the Alien Queens, but I had to check something.  I thought there were 3 made.  The the way I heard it, the original from Aliens was stolen from the warehouse ( how they pulled that off I'd love to know ) so the one for Resurrection was a complete remake, not just refurbished. The AvP queen would be 3.  Not trying to cause a fuss or anything, just wondering if anyone else heard of the Great Xenomorph Robbery or if it was some kind of movie urban legend.

actually, it was only 2. I got the chance to speak with the lead alien effects designers a few years back when the first AvP hit dvd. they were able to tell me just about every thing I wanted to know and a few more things that were just awesome. i asked them that very same question and the info they gave me is what I based my question on. also, in the alien quadrilogy box set there was a interview with the man who owns the original Queen suit, he stated that the queen he has was the very same one from Aliens and that they borrowed it for Resurrection and returned it completely re-painted and repaired. then they made a brand new one for AvP using the first as a reference.

Awww. I had this vision in my head of a bunch of masked fanboys driving down the street in an AMC Gremlin, w/ a big rubber alien on the top, arguing about whose mom's basement they were gonna keep it in...

I've not read thru all of the posts in the thread and skimmed quite a few of them, so don't know - do you get to count just TV Shows and movies?  Or do you go with novels?  I ask because there are two different answers depending on what source material you can use.

Regardless, I don't want to hog all the wins so will send you a PM w/my answers.  I'm curious ot know if I'm right or wrong.  Let someone else have the fun of getting the right answer and asking another question.

As to the Queen Alien and a Gremlin...  That'd almost be worth paying money to go see. Big Smile [:D]

I'll venture a guess here! I'm going to say 3.

HAHAHA  That would be my friends.  Except instead of a Gremlin it would be Jameson's Taurus SHO.  And a Star Wars Alien.  And yes, they both live in their mom's basements.  I have no clue what a Gremiln looks like, but I can still picture the scene perfectly with my buds.  (anyone else think thats a little sad)

EDIT  I just Googled some Gremlin pictures.  Aside from some of the horrid color choices that car would be cool if was fast too.  Since we all know how to airbrush we could fix the chartruese(spelling?) and make 'em really cool.  I'd do mine in Candy red since I know how to paint that now, Cosmic's would be a cool blue for his cheshire cat, Smeagol would do Acguy Brown, and Puma would change his every week.  Group build anyone?? Big Smile [:D]
