I'm where I have always been....on Monster Island.....it's hard for a 450 ft tall GRL to hide....

Why hello again my radioactive friend- haven't seen you since about what two-three raids on Tokyo???

Really, good to see you- I thought you left the forum on the first big migration of members.

Fermis still makes rare appearances. I think his avatar is now Gollum.

From time to time!

Avatar is me in a T-6.

Had a stupid busy year, this year. Kicked off the beginning of the year having to completely remodel my parents "extra house" (my bro and his family lived there 10 years, and pretty much destroyed it...long story and tons of drama). Then my work season started. When things slowed down, I did a bunch of work around the house....then work picked up again, and the phone kept ringing. I also got back into flying, getting instrument and multi-engine current, as well as flying a few "Wings of Mercy" missions. Currently working towards the single engine commercial add-on...just to open some more doors in the aviation job market. Still doing some sporatic jobs, as well as remodeling my own house.

Haven't had much bench time, but I have finished a few this year. Even less free time for jackin around on the forums.

Hey Joe! It is great to hear from you. I have seen you around from time to time and I know how busy you are. So, no worries.

If I may suggest. Do not lament too much on those who have left the forums for whatever number of reasons. But rather, embrace and encourage those that are here and those that are new to the forum.

I wholeheartedly agree. For a while I was encouraged by all the new people joining. Unfortunately, many of those same people do not post again. I wish they would. It is truly unfortunate because they can bring new life and new perspective to the forum.

Again, it is great to hear from you and to hear your perspective.

You folks here, past and present, have been the absolute linch pin in the quality of my modeling abilities and experience. I never forget that.

Happy New Year to you all.

Hey there Steve, and everyone else for that matter. Nice to see this thread here.

I myself have been quite absent from the forums for far too long. Like others, life simply dealt out other priorities that required my attention. This had the unfortunate effect of inducing an overall lethargy toward modeling and participating here on the forums. Although I pop in every now and then I've missed being active and communicating steadily with some of you. Namely you Steve and I'm sorry for that. I still have plenty of distractions to deal with but, I'm looking to get back on here more regularly. Joining Bish's Airfix GB should help me get back into the groove. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to cover the whole of the forums nor comment on all the activity here. Yet, I will do my best.

It's good to see you guys back!

40.mm: I hope you'll be back up and modeling soon.

Wayne: I really thought you'd left us for greener pastures- good to hear from you again. I recently started on my first Meng 'Toon' tank and would love to see yours.

between some physical issues, some burnout, starting to teach more and photobucket going south, i fell off big time last year. Now that the physical issues are satisfactorily resolved, my class prep (19th and 20th century Russian thru 1945) techniques have jelled, and i am using flickr though open to suggestions, ii am getting back to building. i have successfully competed in local and regional contests in the past so i know i am that good but it is no longer as important as it was. I will still compete, especially in my favorite build categories, because it is still fun.

i have been alternating big kits with Meng wartoon tanks plus cleaning out shelf queens. 1919 looks to be a successful year teaching and model building.

I've looked at some Facebook sites and even have my own little site where I post all my completed builds. People "like" it but I really don't care if they do or not.

The problem I see with Facebook mainly, is it's very hard to keep up with past posts. Maybe I don't know how to use it correctly, nor do I want to take the time to learn. I have come to the point of removing notifications because I get so many it drives me nuts. Leave me alone! I'll check when I'm ready to check, but then everything's gone. Bottom line, I don't like it and would close my account if I knew how. In the mean time I removed all my notifications except for my modeling page. I get maybe 3 views and 1 like a week LOL....don't care. If someone wants to ask about a technique, I messege them back.

I like forum formats much better. It's far easer to navigate, take your time and even go back to a subject or find something from the past.

Goldhammer, thanks for the update on Toshi. That's a bad deal Toshi not being able to get on.

And I think Nathan is right, folks are going to social media. I used to spend lots of time on a couple photograpy forums, same thing has happened there.

I too dislike social media a lot and I am biting tongue avoiding a mini-rant about it.

In the meantime, I'm grateful for all the good folk we DO have left here.

Yes indeed, das Feldmarshal also had some great one liners about someone posting a question and him answering as in "yes" or "no" without any further explanation as to the answer leaving the OP in limbo. Confused

Again... l am laughing. I like this guy.

I haven't seen Doog around here in forever..........

Doog was/is Karl Logan (if I remember correctly). Google his name for his latest status. I have a feeling that we won't be seeing any posts nor FSM articles from him for a long, long time.

Gary

Saw that randomly show up on my Google News weeks ago. I didn't know if I should have shared it, but figured it would come out. Sad, very sad. He was a solid contributor to the Armor forum and others I presume.

Fermis still makes rare appearances. I think his avatar is now Gollum.

Manny's user name was Von Manstein's Revenge. We never knew his actual name.

I actually do know his name. Some years back he needed either decals or a kit part and we pm’d. I sent him what he needed and swore me to secrecy about his private info. Cool

He was a bit crazy but in a good way and he knew what he was talking about. I miss seeing him around. What was it that he always would say? Something like, all you mugs need to get back to building.

Oh boy. A lot of names have been tossed around. Feeling a bit nostalgic here. I for one have not see any posts from Fermis, VanceCrozier, Medicman, Hercmech, 9mm, SprueGoose, MajorMike, TheNavigator and others (not sure of their user names here). And ofcourse infamous Manny (I also don't recall his actual user name).

I think Medicman is on the SPAM Forum also

Thank you very much GH for your follow up and letting Toshi know we are thinking of him and his family this holiday season and hope he can get back to joining us.

I tried the other forums as well and they are pretty quiet.

I too cannot handle Facebook for special interests.  Its too dang busy with all its other junk running in the background.  Mot of my clubs went Facebook and its a pain trying to find the information because it gets pushed down as new information gets posted.

GH: Thanks for the update on Toshi and the Mrs. Crossing my fingers she contiues to improve.

I got tired of Facebook and just walked away back in the summer. My phone died on me and I didn't install the Facebook program to the new one and I never check it on the PC. Haven't missed it at all. And the more I read about data gathering and selling by them the less I want anything to do with it.
