Maybe across the board military wise but in the automotive realm it aint so bad. Im an admin over an auto modeling site and it's thriving pretty dang good as well as a couple of other auto forums that I'm on. I'm like you guys with Facebook though. They can get tha heck out of here with that stuff!!!!

I've been reading through the Community forums for years, but I only occasionally leave a remark. I've been unable to login or leave a message for quite a while now, and I thought I must have offended somebody and gotten banned. Good thing I read through this posting because I never would have thought to go incognito otherwise. That's the only reason I am able to post now.

This really aggravated me because I tried FineScale's links for fixing website problems, and I even tried to change my password, but all I ever got was a useless form to fill out. Upon completion of that form I can find out when my subscription ends, but it doesn't do any of the things they say it should. It seems impossible to contact anybody for help, and I'm starting to think they have written the forums off.

When I add that to the fact new pictures in the gallery are getting sparse, it makes me wonder if Fine Scale is on a downhill slide. Anybody else starting to wonder?

Not sure I'd say downhill slide but the forums here sure ain't what they used to be. I remember about 5-10 years ago you'd get a dozen or so new posts a day on the more popular areas like aircraft and armour and now you might get that many new posts a week.

I don't believe it's a downhill slide either, but, I think it can be attributed to all the options a modeler has on where they can post. There are many different forums now online compared to 10 years ago, and look how Facebook modeling groups have taken off. The herd is just spread out.

But, with that being said, if a forum is difficult to navigate, or log into, that can drive some to other forums to post, IMHO...

all other forums are dead. The only vibrant one I know of is Britmodeller. So folks aren’t migrating to other modeling forums, they have migrated to Facebook, which is an awful alternative if you ask me...

Toshi got back with me last night.  He says he can login, but it won't accept any posts.  He is doing OK, and Mrs. Toshi is tumor free, but having terrible migraines.  He says the Dr. says that is a leftover from the prior issue, and should subside in time.

Wished them the best from all of us here, and that we were worried.

Thanks for the update GH. If you talk to Toshi tell 'em Mustang says "Hi"

GM is locked out in the current SNAFU. He has been over on SPAM in the meantime. So has Mopar Madness.

5 days since the last FSM communication and there is no end in sight. That's stellar customer service for ya.

From a guy that has dealt with customers for over 30 years, the guy meaning me, I can safely say, you don't treat your customer base like this. This is an example of what not to do. I am beyond irritated at how they deal with this forum.

What an absolute pity. We, the forum members, are one of FSMs greatest strengths. We generate interest in their product. And, we do this without them paying a cent to us in sales commission.

Whatever.

Pretty sad but true. This however seems to be the norm with just about everyone out there. Customer care has become a thing of the past for the most part.

As an example I need a copy of my home monitored alarm certificate for an insurance discount. The alarm company wants you to go on their web site to get the certificate instead of just sending one as an email with the attachment. Took me a good 20 minutes to fill out all the mumbo jumbo when the cert could have been emailed in a couple of minutes by the rep.

True; had similar dealings with a car insurance company that insist on conversing through their online system. Arrange a phone call it will be in their time and invariably will be missed.

Steve, were you aware that Hunter passed away earlier this year?

No way. I didn't know this at all. I remember when his dad passed but didn't have a clue that Hunter passed away as well. He was a cool guy and I wondered why he hadn't been around in a while.

It was a shock, and for him to have found the hobby and forum the way he did and that happens.

I haven't seen Doog around here in forever..........

Doog was/is Karl Logan (if I remember correctly). Google his name for his latest status. I have a feeling that we won't be seeing any posts nor FSM articles from him for a long, long time.

Gary

Saw that randomly show up on my Google News weeks ago. I didn't know if I should have shared it, but figured it would come out. Sad, very sad. He was a solid contributor to the Armor forum and others I presume.

I would second what GM said about Doog/Karl Logan.

I'm with you guy's .

Innocent  UNTILL proven guilty.

BTW:  Has anybody heard from Armor 2.0 ? Last time I saw a post from him, he was stuck at his mother's house and "desperatly wanting to move.

Toshi is not over on SPAM as a member. But he was posting something here last week about being another of those who was shut out by the lock out SNAFU.

I would second what GM said about Doog/Karl Logan. Although we often debated artistic vs realistic modeling on here, I like to think that we’re on good terms. His situation will be decided in court and then folks will know if he is or is not such an individual.

Mr. Toshi???????

Anyone heard from or have any way to get in touch with Toshi?  We do not know if he cannot get loged in or if something turned for the worse healthwise.  I know he seemed to use us all as a form of support group.  Is he on SPAM?  (what a name for a forum)

Just sent him an email, will let everyone know if he gets back with me.

I will remind all that while Karl is charged and these are serious, he hasn't been convicted of or confessed to, anything as far as I know.

I counted him as a friend over the years. I feel sad about the whole thing and pray it's resolved in a fair way for everyone involved.

Just my two cents.

I've gotta say that I was surely blown away by what I read and I'll be "sending some up" on a resolution that works best for the involved parties.

I don't think his Mom or wife has come back since, but I had offered to finish anything that he had started, so they could have them to remember him by.

I'm sure that others here would also make the same offer, and could do a way better job than I could.

There's been alot of names that I've seen come and go over the years. Folks like Reasoned, Vancecrozier, Manny, troublemaker 66 and pzl66 to name a few. There are a few folks who still post every once in a while here that were regular posters as recent as 5 years ago and I guess I fell out of the military mainstream of this forum myself. In the last 4-1/2 years I haven't built any aircraft after switching to auto building. You'll see me primarily in the auto section here with an occassional post in the mainstream. I have, however, considered building something military over the last few months.Whistling

Wow! I've talked to this guy a few times via PM in the past. I even grew up listening to some of his music even when he was with Manowar but never connected the dots to that and certainly would've never have assossiated him with this kind of act. Man.....you just never know who (or what) you're talking to sometimes.

Hodakamax

Whoa! I've been teleported back in somehow! Sorry no models being built except my 1/1 teeny land speed attempt with a 1970 vintage Hodaka motorcycle. It was inline after cheating death yet again on ladders, repairing and painting the house for the last several months. Mission accomplished on that, ship-shape again. The motorcycle project is on again eating whole wallets in a single gulp. Plenty of plastic on the list, hopefully I'll be caught up soon.

I haven't seen trains in the basement for a while, but I have seen kids occasionally playing with small train sets and also building little cities with Legos. In fact, I've seen quite a few kids building Lego kits of Star War ships, and it makes me think we might be able to use Legos as a gateway drug. Get them into Legos, move up to a snaptite Star Wars kit, and then show them how much better a kit could look with some paint and a little extra work.

The main problem is the kids don't have exposure to the basic tools and skills required for model building. It's all new to them. Their world is predominantly electronic. They learn that stuff from other kids, but only an adult can teach them how to work with their hands. Geez Louise, I've seen kids who didn't even know how to work a toaster! We have to work with them and we have to start out with small things they can easily learn. It's working so far with my grandson, but I haven't gotten into anything big yet, and I've been holding off on the airbrush. Figered I'd just wait until he asked about it. Don't want to introduce something that might scare him off.
