Went to a car show with a model car show on the side this weekend... and came away with a trio of Zeros... Wink

Okay I did buy a truck for a special project that I'll probably never get to. And Bobby Allison was my dad's favorite NASCAR driver so I couldn't resist...

Frankly I needed all this stuff like I need an extra hole in my head...

Well Pat, I have that Archelon kit too, so all I need for a full blown kaiju movie is a cuttlefish and we have:

I PROMISE I won't do that!  Wink

That's good.  It might be hard to find a good scale model of a "handsome and funny photographer", "a delicate young woman", "a cool biologist", and a "spy that always plays dumb" Stick out tongue

PS. it sure looks like the "united forces of Earth" spared no expense in fighting those monsters off with their, machine gun, several rifles, some dynamite and flaming torches. Maybe the rest of the UN was on vacation that weekend Indifferent

Well after watching 'Shin Godzilla' with the amount to legal wrangling and international restrictions placed on the Japanese I'm not sure they could fight off anything.

As someone said if you like 'hot bureaucratic wrangling' this is the movie for you...

Man, I missed some seriously nice looking buys here.

Super scores everybody!

I've been on a bit of a buying binge... adding to my trainer collection.  Man the wolfpack kit looks fantastic.  Comes with resin wheels, canopy masks, PE seatbelts, color glossy instruction booklet with pictures and a great looking decal sheet by cartograf.

And this guy just showed up :)

Thanks,

John

Ouch we musta posted at the same time there Real G- I missed the crawdad entirely!

It would be great for 'Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster' or 'Teenagers From Outer Space'!

That flying carrier is pretty awesome too.

Greysnake: Love all that Soviet stuff. I have to hand it to the Russians- they built some mean looking tanks and armour.

Real G

OK here is my regular installment of Weird Model of the Month:

Real G,

Your Crawfish model got me remembering an old Saturday Night Live episode, where apparently in real life a Soviet satellite containing nuclear material onboard had crashed to Earth in Canada.  So during their Weekend Update segment they had a fake story about the weird effects of the radiation on the local flora and fauna up there, follwed later in the episode by an up date noting that "lobsters the size of a Buick" had been spotted heading to New York City.  If I am remembering correctly I think the episode ended with John Belushi dressed as a soldier trying to fight off a giant claw reaching end from off stage.

Anyway, I guess that if you don't want to do the model as a straight up Crawfish, a Lobster the size of a Buick could also open up a lot of possibilities. Surprise

Lots of cool stuff - Real G the crawfish is cool.

One of my favorite planes of all time - been wanting to do this one again for a while

Thanks,

John

When it rains, it pours - Gamilons!

I have resisted buying any of the kooky Gamilon space carriers from "Space Battleship Yamato", but when some of the 1/1000 scale kits were re-released, I pressed the "buy this" button.  And I was not at home sick!  Stick out tongue  I like the "pointyness" of the flight decks.  And the freebie "Mecha-Colle" space fighter (the little fighter on the lower left on the box art) is cool.

RG,

If I recall Tamiya decides more or less what model to make next based on what the then chairman or president of the company likes. So we probably have Shunsaku Tamiya to thank for the R35.

Yeah I seem to be getting a lot of Soviet armor lately. I agree it’s good to see modern soldiers being made as I really don’t need any more WWII German soldiers. Now if someone would start making Warsaw Pact soldiers I’d be very happy.

One more model came in that I forgot I bought. This is a lesson not to shop on eBay when I’m really sick. Never built a Panda kit before and some reading this kit is a challenge to get together. At least my tanks have some AA defense now.

Greysnake,

I didn't realize the Tamiya R35 was out already.  I wonder if Mr. Tamiya has a thing for weird, organic looking pre-war tanks that fit in the Hayao Miyazaki anime universe?  It is nice that a top-drawer company is seeing fit to do French tanks.

That's a lot of Soviet armor you got there!  Planning to invade a neighboring country?  Stick out tongue  Good to see new companies doing modern soldiers.  We need all the post-WW II fighting figures that we can get!

Nice pickups Joe.

Gamera, well there’s something you don’t see every day!

I’ve been sick for the past two weeks and probably spent more time on eBay then I should. It was a surprise finding the Tamiya R35 from a US retailer when most places haven’t gotten it yet.

Also picked up some figures from Russia and they only took about two and a half weeks to get here. I’ve never heard of the manufacture Avart Arhive. They seem to have just started making kits around 2018. The box art didn’t do much for me but finding some built pictures of the figures online changed my mind. I find it odd the English translation on box says Russian Naval Infantry and the Cyrillic says Russian Marine Infantry. The box says these figures are for Syria and Crimea. I’ll have to brush up on my Cyrillic as the painting guide on the side of the box isn’t in English.

Looking at the sprue there’s number of parts and the figures seem to be about on par with newer Zvezda figures.

Joe: Ohhhhhhhhhh, love all those awesome Japanese subjects!!!

John: I built a Supermodel kit waaaaay back in the '80s-'90s. I don't remember any real issues or it being a great kit either- just run of the mill stuff.

OK here is my regular installment of Weird Model of the Month:

This is a 1:1(?) model of an American Crayfish!  I give Fujimi credit for branching out to a subject that hasn't been seen in decades.  When I was a wee lad, I loved buying plastic models of bugs and things.  Now in the 21st century, these types of kits are showing up again, but with accuracy factored into the equation - no more wind up motors or other gimmicks, just a straightforward model kit!  And after an initial look through, I noticed Fujimi has improved on this kit compared to their earlier insects.  They were careful to not mold anything external in soft plastic, something that was really annoying in the bugs.  So YesYes Fujimi!

The parts look terrific by the way.

I got two kits, one for a friend who is awesome at painting stuff like this.  He will probably finish his before me!  Now to look at reference photos for colors, and to wait for the Eduard PE and resin sets...  Stick out tongue

Nice stuff Joe.  Really like the Pete.  Curious how the G55S kit is.  Not familiar with that manufacturer.

Thanks,

John

Boy, there have certainly been some really incredible additions over the past few weeks. Well done to all for the wonderful enhancements to each one's stash.

I've managed to acquire some choice enhancements myself.

Having added a couple of 1/72 IJN aircraft last month, it was time to add a couple of 1/48 specimens.

Then a couple of very nice 1/700 IJN ships:

Lastly, added the unique kit:

Its pretty standard for their boxers, this kit was only released in 2016. I got a Challenger 2 turret at the same time and that came in the same type of box.

Those sharks are becoming popular, i might have to get some of that action soon.

Cool Pat - does it come with the wrinkled sidewalls?

Bish - nice - is that old Accurate Armor boxing?

I had Mail Call!

Dauntless decals - lots of options

Tank conversion for my F-7F Tigercat firebomber

I jumped on the Hamerhead shark train - 1/20 Hamerhead shark - some of the best resin I've ever seen!

Thanks,

John

After finishing off the Northern Ireland version of the Snatch Land Rover last week, i couldn't wait to grab another Accurate Armour kit from Op Baner. This time the Humber Pig Mk 2. This one is a complete kit rather than a conversion, and looks like it will be a nice build.

Nice pickups stickdude. I’ve been meaning to get a Vampire one day along with some Rhodesian air force decals; always liked how the aircraft looked.

I also got interested in the Midway time-frame USN and IJN aircraft too.  My conclusion is Hasegawa has the best Vals and Kates in 1/48.

Many others must know this too as the Nakajima B5N2 models seem impossible to find in the Japan online stores.

John,  That looks like an excellent Dauntless kit per my review at the 1999.co.jp site.    (I did not see any markings for a new Zealand version though.)

Thanks for reminding me that the old Monogram kit I built in my youth is dated and needs to be replaced.

This is a great thread. There are more Happy Modelers here than any other Forum.
