It's been some time since anybody added a comment on this one... It does appear that out of the 'Magnificient Seven' that we got after the first 100 'votes', the P-51 Mustang has somehow clearly won the title of the 'sexiest aircraft ever'...

So even if you think, like I do, that the XB-70 was in fact the sexiest plane ever, well, we gonna have to learn to live with the results of this poll...

I've always been a N.A. fan, P-51, F-86, F-100, but the Vig takes this contest hands down! It looks like it's going Mach 2 just sitting there!

Well, I don't receive their newsletter. Last I heard it was to be a full kit, but that was a LONG time back. (NATS last year? I don't recall) Perhaps they found a feasible way to convert the old AMT "N" molds. They musta had fun with that project! LOL

And yes, the P-40Q was, indeed, a sleek and sexy bird. Compared to it's predecessors, anyway! Tongue [:P]

Steve:

That was the impression I got after reading their last newsletter. Perhaps I mis-interpreted what I read. Would not be the first time. Tongue [:P]

Yeah, it is rather a simple kit. But I still dunno if I'd build it. That's one of those "keep it on the shelf and look how 'perty it it" kinda models!

JGUIGNARD,

I dunno if that Angel interceptor is still available or not. Does look cool, though. I've got one of these things, unfortunately no decals or instructions. That's okay, I'll never build it anyway! Tongue [:P]

Aw c'mon - I recall that the Angel Interceptor kit was pretty simple. Surely you can tear yourself away from your P-40's for a while ! Big Smile [:D]

Speaking of P-40's, I undestand AMtech is going to do a 1/48th XP-40Q conversion set - now there's a sexy airplane !

The Winner:
P-51D Mustang 'Big Beautiful Doll'
Oh the sleek lines, unmistakable engine noise and chequered nose pattern...

Runners Up:
B-1B Lancer - Why so much damn noise! If the looks don't kill you, the noise will! Also, I have the Revell 1/48 kit hanging from my ceiling - it's a decent size too...
A-10A Thunderbolt - Ugly, yet the old 'Hog just has a certain charm that no other plane has...
Spitfire MK.22 - Why settle for 3 prop blades when you can have 5?!
B-52 Stratofortress - Dr. Strangelove just wouldn't have worked with any other plane.
AH-1W Super Cobra - I just lurrrve that rounded canopy and those sleek lines.
OV-10 Bronco - Call me crazy, but like the 'Hog, it just has something about it...
UH-1 Huey - When someone says 'Vietnam', what do you think of straight away. Probably the Huey. Classic.
Westland Lysander - Actually it ain't sexy at all. In fact it's butt-ugly. But my grandad named itTongue [:P].

Sorry - was that excessive...?

The sexiest plane ever has to be the F-4 Phantom II. It looks great in all guises (cam or bright navy markings), it looks mean and business like. It looks fast and is fast. If you called your wife or girlfriend 'my little F-4', she would take it as the greatest compliment and immediately declare her undying love for you.

I built one of those long ago. Porcelain is right ! Is that kit still available ? Reminds me of a sexy airplane that never made it into production but made it into comic books - the Lockheed XF-90 flown by Blackhawk and his squadron of crimefighters.

Well... let me do something different and nominate a sailplane.

The Nimbus 3T is down right sexy. It's nothing but fine curves, and is all about preformance (satying up there depends on that). This thing has a glide ratio of 60 (for ever thousand feet up, it can glide 60,000 feet across the ground). Its quiet, fast and simple in concept... if you have ever wondered what it would be like to be a bird... its as close as you'l ever get.

Sexiest plane ever in my humble opinion has to be the TSR2. I have been lucky enough to see the two remaining examples in the flesh (as it were) an d they really are exquisite.

Lockheed Tristar???? Somebody must like wide rear ends! DC-10 has much better lines, but still doesn't get my vote.

I'll go for the Beech Staggerwing.

I don't know about sexy when talking aircraft, (and I work on them), but as for the coolest looking, no plane beats the F-4 Phantom...that was one bad looking son-of-a-gun!!!
