Got to be the Spit. Those smooth curved lines, the romance of the blitz, the name, the sleek profile. Even my girlfriend, who can't tell an F-15 from a Farman thinks the Spit is hot!!

Concorde, definitely.

Saw one at an airshow a few years back. Everyone was all taken aback by the F-18s, F-16s, F-15s and their sonic booms, but no other aircraft there could shake your fillings loose just sitting on the ground idling like the Concorde could. Not even the B-1 I'd seen at an airshow a few years before that could claim to do that.

As I said in my initial posting to this poll, any aircraft that can look so slick on the ground or in the air and still not be military hardware is about as sexy as technology can get.

Thats why I like the Constellation and the L-1011 Tristar as well, the lines are just so right on those birds.

Having topped the 100 replies, I though it would be time for a little recap... just to make things clearer. Not an easy thing in fact because of the many 'multi-vote' answers which I had to cut down to 'single-vote', but there are 7 aircraft that come up over and over again.

The winner so far:

North American P-51 Mustang Tongue [:P]

Runner-ups:

Supermarine Spitfire
BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde
Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
Lockheed Constellation / Super Constellation
Lockheed P-38 Lightning
Grumman F-14 Tomcat

If I have to go along with any of the top 7, instead of my original vote (XB-70 ValkyrieTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]) I'll have to select the Concorde, then... (I flew in that one... a freebie flight of 20mins between Paris and Liège in Belgium... I bit cramped but its cellar is really well stocked with nice champagne!!!). And let's face it, that bird is indeed quite beautiful... Blush [:I]

So, out of the magnificent seven, what's your own favourite? Smile [:)]

Hey, why nobody mentioned DH-88 Comet? Then, of course, Mosquito and Spitfires from Mk.I to Mk.IX.
Modern... has anyone seen Tu-160 Blackjack?

This is one really tough question. I don't think anything could beat a P-51 flying 15 ft. off the deck. But watching the Blue Angels really make me pic the F-18. Nothing can beat it. Except maybe an F-14.

Without any doubt: Propeller A/C: P-51D Mustang, Jet A/C: SR-71 Blackbird.
Distant seconds would be: P-38J Lightning & F-16 any variant.

P-51 Mustang! for me! Almost 60 years later they are still being collected, raced, restored, and imitated! Still one of the Highlights at ALL Airshows that have a Warbirds display, their own (many) websites! My favorite is www.mustangsmustangs.comWink [;)] The Spit has gotta be a close second as far as warbirds are counted!

Salute! ya'll!

I would have to say the North American A-5 or RA-5C Vigilante and the Convair B-58 becaucse in my opinion they were fast standing still and were ahead of their time.
