Greetings gents, Just completed my Monogram P-51 a few minutes ago! It was painful , but now I want to build another?

No Resin here. Only AMbits is the rear canopy which is squadron vac job

That's amazing cbaltrin! Looks better than most of the Tamiya and Hasegawa mustangs I have seen!

The first kit I bought new, The second kit was a 1960's kit found at a garage sale, and the third kit my Wife found at a goodwill.  The next one I find will be made into the photo-recon version.

You did a fantastic job on all the P-38 Lightnings.  Excellent!  You just need the recon photo version to complete the set and you're good to go!

I built the P-38 as a kid. Don't remember any issues. Have 2 in the stash. It's a fine kit.

These photos are obviously fakes, because everyone knows, you can't build the Monogram P-38 into a nice model!  None of the parts fit, it's not scaled correctly, etc, etc, etc.

Big Smile

Thanks for indulging me in my wisecrack!  Seriously, those are excellent builds, and I think you prove that it is still a kit worth building.  Beautifully done!

Best regards,

Brad

Here is a set of interesting pictures. I have built the same 1/48 P-38 kit just 3 different versions that are offered with the kit.

Ah the classic Lightning. All you need is the F-5 Photo Recon version to complete all the kit option builds

Okay, I do not have many Revell/Monogram kits to boast about and these are from earlier days in the hobby.

1/48 PBY 5a "Black Cat" image was taken off the model show web site (i did not have a digital camera back then)

1/48 P-61 Black Widow, saw a few of these in here already but here is mine

Now if you are looking for something a little bit faster how about this.

cbaltrin,

Thanks for the pat on the back.  That canopy is the kit's canopy.  I didn't do anything special to it, well, besides a Future dip.  Funny thing is I was worried what condition it'd be in because it was covered with liquid mask for over a year.  When I peeled off the mask, there was some "hazing" of the plastic, but a few brush strokes of Future produced the sheen you see.  Hope that answers your question.  Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Nice looking builds 'O'.  I really like your clear parts. Any special technique? That P-47 does not look like the kit canopy? Could it be from an Otaki P-47? I ask because I used an Otaki canopy of the razorback I have in progress in the Monogram Mafia III GB

Wow, some great work on some classic kits is being showcased here!  I thought I'd add a couple of my recent Revellogram builds to the mix.  It's been a while since I've shared a Revellogram build here, so I figured it's about time that I do.

1/48 P-47 Razorback

1/48 AH-1F

I have a few more Revellogram kits in the pile that I want to get to.  Hopefully I'll be able to (eventually) add them to the thread.

Cheers!

Dang John, 65 was when I built my first model and I have to say it didn't look anything like yours, let alone still have it.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

So you painted the national insignia, serials, codes, etc.? Wow!

Yessir! The stars & bars were a royal pain. The other stuff was relatively easy.

Nice bunch of models, Bossman.  I agree that B-24D is not so pretty, but we all have to build one, don't we?

mississippivol

Here's grandpappy. 1.48 Monogram Lightning built by my dad when Nixon was president, around 1972. Anyone got one built earlier?

I built this one in the Fall of 1965, I'm pretty sure.  The latest it could have been built was the Spring of 1967.

In 1/48 scale . . .   The B-24 D.  As if the Liberator wasn't ugly enough already - The Moby scheme didn't really help.

And the Spitfire Mk. I

Wow M-vol . . .   That is a Grand-daddy !

I may have built a kit around that time frame, but it would have been one of my first efforts - Those kits are long gone to the landfill.

Here are a few of my more recent builds of the old 1/32 scale Revell Hurricane and Spitfire.

Another classic for the shelf.  1/72 F8F Bearcat wearing Starfighter Decals.  Markings are for an aircraft stationed at China Lake in the early Fifties.
