"Mind", are you kidding me?  That is a beautiful build Jester!  Beer  I like the white nose on that beast.  Like seeing the camo on those early 109's.  I've said it before, if there is better looking fighter plane, I haven't seen it.

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

Well, here goes nothing. This is the Tamiya kit with some aftermarket decals, Quickboost exhaust and Ed etch in the pit. The plane was von Werra's ride. Seems to be tons and tons of debate over the scheme and colors. Build was pretty straightforward, only problem was the struts were too short on the tail planes cause them to sag if not corrected. Will add some very slight exhaust staining tomorrow as well as the canopy cable. Overall, I am pretty pleased with my first ever 109 build! Hope you guys dont mind my sneaking it in here.

Manstein... Are those yours? They are friggin' sweet. Love the yellow spinner! Some very cool, unusual variations there!

Ahhhh, combination of me not building a Hasegawa 109 in a while, and confusing it with their first E-3 + E-4/7 kits (which had an "early" tooling). I REALLY don't remember the engine cover coming as separate pieces on the first one I built - are they truly all like that versus a "complete" fuselage half?

Yes, Hans von Hammer addressed this specific detail back on page 30 of this GB - should check out his explanation on how to tackle it.  The two panels are actually hinged down the center.

regards,

Jack

 Hans von Hammer:

You would be correct in dropping the flaps...109's can be seen in pics with their flaps in all manners of positions while parked...

The slats should be down if the aircraft is "parked" too, but I've never seen a kit that has the slats molded as separate parts... Is there such a kit?

Yes, all Hasegawa 109 kits have seperate slats, a simple plastic representation, but its there.

Dupes- digging up that article today for you. Stay tuned...

DITTO...the slats are all separate on the Hasegawa kits...

Sorry fellas, not very good about taking WIP pics...hoping once I get my photo booth set up permanently I'll take more.

Recapping - the early tooling of Hasegawa's 109F-2 in 1/48th, going with the top option on the Aeromaster decal sheet. Being the early tooling, the hood is molded in halves that don't fit particularly well. Needed a bit of putty up front. Also (being the early tooling) has positionable flaps. Hoping that 109s that were parked had dropped flaps, as that's how I posed them!

...looking good, Dupes.

I don't believe there is an "early" tooling of the 109 F model by Hasegawa.  As far as I know---all of their 109's are original tooling, which is remarkablke because IMO they are still the best represntation of a 109 available on the market when it comes to the F model and beyond (G and K).  All of them hold up well but they all need AM in the pit, IMO...

 Jester75:

Having taken a short hiatus from these here forums, I find myself browsing them more and more and kept finding myself checking out all the really nice builds in this group build. I was wondering if you gents would mind if I joined you with a 109 that I have been working on for about the past month and a half???

Bring it!

I promise guys I have begun work on phase two of my build, but like Hans I have had ZERO time at the bench. Life should be getting back to normal soon and back to it.

Handi, you are a machine. Two down now already! All the others looking great, I really like the b-17 shot in the classroom. Very cool!

Keep them coming!

Wow---Jester, I haven't seen anything from you in awhile.  Look forward to a 109 from you!

Dupes, glad to have you aboard! Sweet scheme. IIRC that same bird was built up and featured in an FSM article a year or so ago. If you're interested I could look it up, should make for a cool reference. Lots of different colors going into that mottle.

Nathan - if you can find that I would be MOST interested to take a look at it (mostly to find out what method the author used to paint the mottle!).

Saw the badge for this GB floating around...couldn't find the thread, though - didn't think to look in the A/C forum. Anyway, I'm here to throw my hat in the ring - been on a bit of a singleprop kick of late, and it's time for a 109!

Am building a 1/48 Hasegawa 109F2 (#9010. It's an oldie but a goodie!) with Operation Barbarossa markings. Decals I'll be using can be seen here:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ESP48132

Going to go with option one from the sheet - the one with the really funky mottle alllllll over the top half of the bird. It's so extensive, I think I'm going to try to handpaint it (vs airbrushing) with either thinned model master or vallejo...will have to play around with that a bit before the actual application.

Just cracked into the kit releasing the previously sealed Japanese air from the late 80's. Started off by clipping the clear parts and dunking them in future - now I'm off to the bench for assembly!

Beautiful! The only negative comment… huh, one of the pictures hanging in the background is crooked!!  The groundwork & figure really add to the finished product. Yes

YesExcellent Lawdog! Man that is a beauty...... and a quck build to boot!

Ditto to you Manny, Oh how I love these 109's, nothing sexier............. Hmm well, at least that flies!

BTW, question on the spinner spiral.  It looks in lawdogs to "terminate" at the prop blade:

and on Manny's, it looks like it's towards the hub:

or am I missing something?  Those spinner spiral decals REALLY scare me for some reason.

What happening?  Well, I'm finally done.  I must say the fine work from you guys on here has kept me motivated and this is probably a record build for me.  I did the base and pilot figure last night.  I'm sure the ease of the Hasegawa 109 had alot to do with this.  To recap briefy, I used a True Details 'pit and Eagle Cal decals.  I think I need to replace my Micro Sol since I had trouble getting the spiral then underwing and fuselage crosses to snuggle down.  There were a few small wrinkles which were a bear to iron out.  I've used Eagle Cal in the past with no such problems, so its safe to say its either operator error or the softener.  I may later replace the tires with a True Details set because I had to sand out a large mold separation seam which removed alot of the tread detail.

Anyways, I built the JG 52 mount of Heinz Ewald.  According to the decal literature, he was one of Eric Hartmann's wingman on the Russian front.   Unfortunately I would discover VERY late in the decaling process that Ewald's machine (according to the profile on the sheet) had the shorter metal tail and I had a wooden-tailed G-14 in my hand....DOH!Bang Head  I'm lighthearted about such stuff and am the furtherst thing from the so called AMS modeler.  Ehh,...99.9 percent of the people would notice anywaysHmm

The figure is from the Hasegawa Aircraft Action series which comes with a bunch of pilots from US, Britain, Japan, and Germany.  I was disappointed in the detail which was soft.  In my opinion, the ICM and even the old Revell Monogram figures from the bomber kits were much better detailed.  I had it so I figured I would use it.  Heres the photos and thanks for having me.

Joe

Great build!  I did the same a/c several years ago...I, too, was intrigued by the fact that Ewald was Hartmann's wingman--and I liked the cool staffel badge on the nose...
