I got the MiG's fuselage closed up last night and am waiting for the seam putty to cure before I tackle the cleanup, painted two FAB-250 dumb bombs and a pair of small rocket pods to hang underneath it, painted the landing gear and wheels, added a styrene shim to the mating surface of each main wing to hopefully close a nasty gap on the underside wing root...

Mostly it's petty stuff before I can get the wings and tail section added on and the paint thrown at it.

The hard part is sneaking up on the deer & yanking the hairs before they realize you're there and kick you in the face...

Nahh....that's easy....just plant about 200 tomato plants and wait. They'll show up!

They always seemed to like whatever flowers my mother planted, or "the deer food" as she called them....

That IP looks great---decal, PE or freehand???  The world wonders...

He may have built all the dials & knobs individually...

For the instrument needles, I used deer hair, set in clear glue. In 1/72, you have to use the fine hairs off of the "danglies" though. In 1/48, you can get away with the slightly thicker hair from what would be their arm pit.

Manstein's revenge

If you look closely there is even a pair of red scissors tucked down into the front pocket of the seat...

I think the pilots used those to cut out coupons while waiting for take-off clearance...

They're not left-handed scissors are they? P38jl was looking for those...

What Vance posted look like big ole FAB 250s to me..  the two units at upper right in this photo are supposed to be cluster munition canisters (according to Trumpeter)...  at any rate, it seems that my MiG will be carrying some rocket pods like those posted by Manny and some FABs.   The weapons shown below will hang on a Frogfoot.

I believe those are cluster bombs hangin' on the MiG-21...these rocket-pods were common on the 21 as well in Afghan:

They should have used a Yak-18 for that mission....

Easily distracted by passing wildlife, eh?

Well, now that Fermis is involved and building in this GB it is time for us mortals to sit back and watch a Master at work... <le sigh>

I hear the man can be distracted by passing wildlife. It may be our only hope!

Too right!  It's not long until deer season...that should give you hope.   Ya gotta build while he hunts!Big Smile

Fermis- he's a machine, a model-making machine!

Anybody have any idea what the Afghans might have slung under their MiG-21s while they were still air-worthy?   All I can glean off the interwebs is either dumb bombs or rocket pods with a centerline fuel tank.   It doesn't appear that they used air-to-air missiles (Atolls) or used their MiGs as interceptors, but as mud-movers....

Finally ready to go here!!!

As I was digging through the stash, I found a 1/72 ICM Mig-29 (that I had left out of the earlier pic...I decided to go with that for starters!

The pit tub stopped short...even with the IP. I did a little cutting and extended the tub with styrene and added tea can aluminum rudder pedals. Bang seat is from Aires and I added some scrap PE to the baren sidewalls.

Fuse was closed up last night....fit was "OK"....much of the seams will be covered by wings and elevators....I like that!

Scratched rudder pedals from tea-tin???!!!???
