It's 2000 hrs and time for possibly the last update of Day at My Workbench.  What's that you say? Say it isn't so?  Unfortunately yes, as I've started orientation at UPS and they require my presence at 2145.  Last we saw our hero, he was listening to voices (real or fume induced who knows, I don't and neither does he).  The next victim on his workbench turned out to be a Hurricane.  The wings are together, cockpit painted and is waiting on the IP decal to dry so he can close up the fuselage and attach the wings.  Puttied up the wingroot gap and the fuselage/wingsection gap.  Gonna lose a lot of rivets cleaning those up.  Earlier I said that the wings are going to sit cockeyed?  Well the fuselage is cockeyed looking down from the top as well.  Well it's a fun kit anyways and hopefully will look decent on the shelf.  Here's some pics of the Hurricane.

Jimmy!  The coloe on the Jag is spot on. Saw lotsa those too and yours looks the part! Also anyone with a bottle of Elmrs glue on their front page pic is the coolest!

Hey sfcmac thanks for the kind words and as for the Elmers glue? I use it to fill seams works real good and no sanding just use a swab with water once it dries but it really only works with smaller seams it shrinks too much when it dries on large seams, I guess you could just keep applying it till it fills the larger gap but gap filling super glue is better for large seams IMO.

Aaron the black paint was on the P-40, cockpit, cutting mat, my hands, the wall, some of the tools and the worst....my yellow spinnerDisapprove [V]  I have to say that I'm disappointed in myself for not getting this build done in the 2 days.  Today I only spent an hour, then the paint mishap.  If I don't have to work Tuesday I hope to have it painted.

Roy- Bummer about the paint mishap.  I ran into similar issues during my marathon build, careless mistakes and dropping things continuously.  Sure does make one a bit nervous!  Good luck with the P-40, hope to see some more pics soon. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi guys, man there are some awsome builds going on here.  And YES my wife had our little girl (8lbs 14.7ozs).  I am so getting ready for this weekend.  My 48 hours will be on the 5ht and 6th.  Works perfect.  I work on Thursday and go in for 12 hours on Sunday night.  MMM if I plan this right I can tell the wife that I am getting ready for the night 12, so I can't go to bed early.

And I am the Kim.  Man I was a fighter in grade school and junior high.   My middle name is Ashley.  I think my mother, who wanted the Ashley, was on something.  I was born on 1970, so go figure.

Keep up the great builds and I will get the prebuild picture asap.  Just have to go though the baby pics.  I do have a great one for her future boyfriends.  It shows her fresh out, still with the baby grease on, with a rectal themometer in her private place.

Roy, sorry to hear about the paint mishap.  I seem to remember doing something similar once when trying to clean out my airbrush and spraying it into a tub full of cleaning solution. Doh!!!

Since I can't work on the spray booth through the night, due to needing to be at a friend's house, and the noise of construction, this is going to be built in less than 48 hours worth of work, rather than 48 continuous hours.  Because of that, I don't believe it should be posted here in the GB anymore. If you all are interested, I have a thread specifically for this project under Tools, here.  Feel free to check it out and to post any questions or comments you may have.  However I won't be posting much except for one big summary post a night until this is done, as it is eating up my free time.Burger [BG]

I've decided to also build a rolling cart for the spray booth that you all were interested in. I will post the cost of materials for that as well, but I won't be counting it towards my cost limit, as it is not comparable to something commercially available.

Cheers,
Alex

Well, it's basically 0400 and it's time for another installment of As the Workbench Turns.  Our intrepid hero returned from orientation at Big Brown and wasn't quite ready to sleep.  He returned to his workbench and began to sling some glue.  First the IP went in, followed by the cockpit.  Slathered some tube glue on the fuselage halves, stuck them badboys together, hit'em with some MEK and said I'm hungry where are the wings?  The wings said here we are, but we ain't gonna make it easy on ya.  It looks like you tried to cheat by gluing the nose on before us.  So big boy, grab that knife and sanding stick and get to work.  So patiently our hero got to work and did just that.  Attached the horizontal stabilizers and the thing looks like an airplane now.  Gonna hit the egregious spots with some putty and take my butt to bed.  See ya'll round 1000 hrs CST.  Added a couple of update pics.

Looking good Lew, Mine has started. Whipped everything off the sprue and cleaned up.

This is the stage im at. Everything has had a coat of RLM 02, a bit of dry brushing here and there, some scratched rudder straps, and the dash that im rather chuffed with, seeing as i hand painted it. LOL. After a tip or 2 from the ARMOR SATAN (Big E) I rang him at work.

Right, lets get it in and wrap a fuzz around it. Woo hoo.

Guy it's Lunch time Heckle Heckle Heckle!  Hmmm I just got home. Work again ! Survived another night!

Frank I'll get some sleep  and give ya a descent reply. Right now things are pretty incoherent. Normal for me! Propeller [8-]

Roy in a kilt....? Hmmmm that explains the saddle shoes then. Roy as long as you are finishing that P-40 you shall here no tardiness ribbing from me!  Has to stay fun to be worth it!

Not so for Nammy baby! You is lower than a slug belly but I stands by ye! Where ya been today?  I always try to do one thing a day on what I am working on even if it is just research or painting one small piece. Eventually it adds up!  I have not got the knack of contolling Guys elf. Probably because I use woodland cheerleader fairies and nymphs. Hey I can fantasize! You know why? cuz thats why. I still got a a double PBY, a 251, a Ventura and a 109 to produce so all my lecturing is quite hypercritical. ( did I hear Bondo's name?)

lewbud I am behind the times I guess. So you have a new job? At night? and no coffee? Man that's hard core!

Sean I really am freaked out that Roy actually shows off his Gams! Going to my happy place!!!!

Concrats again moose! So where does the nekid turkey fit into the story? Must be the thermometer. When it pops out the baby is done. Is that youralls first kid?

Alex  I still have no idea whats going on! Spray booth? Is that a girl in a shower?

Wow I am probably missing some body... sorry but the ZZZZZZZZZZz monster is getting mE!Good morning all I must return to my sarcophigus. Roy how the heck you spell thaT?Sleepy [|)]

Man, that's crazy!  Especially with work getting in the way.  Good luck, I'll be keeping an eye on you.  Good choice for builds old chap. Wink [;)]

Guy- All you have managed to do is clean up all of the parts, complete the cockpit, and post photos in two hours?  Looks like I had better send the rest of your elves back. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] LOL...  Looking good fella, can't wait to see more! Tongue [:P]

Kim- Congratulations on your little girl!  Nothing quite beats a new 1/1 scale build. Approve [^]

Right where was I. Oh yes. Since last post i have detailed the UC Legs with some brake lines, got the fuz together. Ive let that go off for about an hour and then applied some Mr surfacer 500. I can insert the pit from underneath. Ive got the cockpit glass futured and drying under the little tub in the pic. Now ive got the wings together, theyll need a good hour to go off, maybe longer. Ive got tomorrow, nothing to stress about....Right? Big E reminded me that its our model club meeting tomorrow night, so my building will have to be finished before i go at 6.45 ish. LOL...No sweat Whistling [:-^]

Oh and i painted the wheels....and assembled the radiators (Nice PE from Hasa BTW)

Guy - how many layers does your paint scheme have on it...? May want to accelerate the build process a bit there, sir!

Looks like I may be able to swing an 8:00 Wednesday to 8:00 Friday build period! Will have an update pic of the box-and-sprues if it looks like it'll happen! Big Smile [:D]

Well, our hero awoke later than he'd planned (didn't hear the alarm go off, must change stations from Christmas music to heavy metal), but did manage to sand the offending putty, smooth some seams and attach some bumpy bits to the bottom of the wings.  The Buffalo is alone in the corral and the Spit is hollering me next.  Just need to build the prop and mask the canopy and the Hurricane will be ready for the paint shop.  Pics have been added.

Aaron,

Just working for some extra holiday money.

Dupes,

Go for it man!

Frank,

You may be right, I may be crazy, but it just may be a lunatic you're . . . oh never mind, back to the bench.

Guy, looking good also.  You got a long way to go yet though, no pressure! Wink [;)]

Whoo Hoo!!!!!!!!! I'm bleeding into other people's parts of this GB! Airframe done and decaling in progress!....then

CANOPY MISHAP!!!

Masked the Futured canopy and noticed a tiny lump at a sprue point. Got out a sanding stick and proceeded to scratch a window up! No biggie.....redip!

Pull the piece out of the soup and drop it on the floor! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!Shock [:O] Then I stepped on it! No breakage, but it is FILTHY and SCRATCHED again!

Opened a sealed copy of the same kit and cannibalized a new hood. The Future is drying. Now I get to re-mask the bi*ch.

With all this free time I have......I've added up (conservatively) my hours into this GB. With all the interruptions I figure I have about 38 hours building and watching paint dry. Hang me if you must!Blindfold [X-)] I'm almost afraid to touch anything!

So, while the Future dries/cures.....I shall review all the posts I've glossed over the past 4 days.

No pics this update.  The rivet monster lost a lot of rivets sanding the putty on the Buffalo, but am ready to mask the canopy and send it to the primer shop with the 'Cane.  Prop is done (who ever came up with the idea of a multipiece prop needs to be a #11 blade dartboard, not difficult to assemble, just fiddly).  Work has started on the Spit.  Cockpit is assembled and primered, fuselage interior is primered and waiting on its coat of British interior green.

Dave,

The Hurricane is the Hasegawa and the Spit is the Tamiya.  Both in the divine scale of 1/72.

Must be something in the air - I dipped all the canopy pieces for a HawseG 1/32 Fieseler  Storch I was working on last yr.  So I am cutting the "Frisket" mask and I notice I am missing the smallest pane. Where oh where ? I carefully clean off every inch of the construction side of the bench (1hr) nect I move over to the Painting Side and clean every inch (1/2 hr) Search through the box checking behind the flap corners... Next the carpet , behind other  boxes, No Luck..I finially write it off and decide to scratch build one out of some clear material. Move all the other pieces of canopy back over to the waxpaper covered "drying board" and there between the tips of a pair of tweezers is my long lost piece. I am not even going to tell you how many times I looked at it and never saw it....Dunce [D)] Geeze I hope  Frank  does not see this.... Not the project I should be working on Wink [;)]  Whistling [:-^] shhhh

Well, im still here and plodding on. The plane, luckilly for me, is a Hasagawa! so perfect wing roots a go go,

I didnt forget to put the pit in before the wing. I think it was Wingnut in another post who said he'd done that. I laughed.

At the mo, im masking the canopy. Im trying to get to the stage of squirting the undersides. The bulgarian paint scheme looks like a standard german scheme of RLM 65/ 70/ 71 so nothing ive not done before once or twice.

Tally ho.
