Nam! say it isn't so! I think of your build everytime me daughter plays guitar hero!  I want a Thunderbolt! What kinda decals does it come with?

lewbud no matter how much I work for $ I still don't seem to have any extra. Whistling [:-^]

Well, the planes haven't won yet.  The Cane was the first one to the primer shop.  Having problems with the rear glas of the Buffalo.  The Tamiya kit is going together like, well a Tamiya kit.  The fuselage halves are together, the cockpit is just about ready to drop in and just have one wing half to assemble.  No pics yet.

Guy,

It must be about midnight over there, you pulling an allnighter?  Looking good.

Aaron,

I'm single and the just paid off the car.  Plus, I don't have someone coming behind me and picking my pocket when I'm not looking (just kidding Dee).  Totally lost about Nam and the Guitar Hero reference.

Oh yeah, have paint on it. Who are you kidding.......errr

Well, thats all im doing tonight. The undersides are RLM 65, the gear is assembled, painted and ready to fix. The propellor is painted. Ill paint the hub Steel when the blades have had some time to go off.

As for the paint scheme, i was going to do a Bulgarian version but it appears that im missing those decals (The kit was from ebay) so im going with the others that are still in the kit. The plane is now going to be Romanian, the bottom of the aeromaster pictures.

In the morning ive got to go to my LHS and buy some RLM 71 as im out. Im not worried about the deadline.......Honest...err...do i sound sincere LOL.

Well, the Cane is out of the primer shop.  Got the rear canopy on the Buff and gettin' ready to mask.  The Spit is beginning to look like a Spit.  Got some seams on her to clean up then she'll be going into the primer shop.  Guess I better start mixing the Sky for the undersides.  Pics on the same batchannel.

It really is, considering that yours truly was MODELING for a change, not yappin'...LOL.

Somehow we all managed to do two of our favorite things at the same time. I choked down a few frosty ones, too in the course of the build.

lots of fun, thats for sure.

Well, got the Buffalo in and out of the primer shop.  Painted the bottoms of the Buffalo and Cane with Sky.  Masked and shot the bottoms with black.  The Spit is waiting for putty to dry and will be in the primer shop when I get home.  Added a couple of pics of the Buffalo and Cane masked and in black paint.

Excellent work Buddy and Guy (Buddy Guy?)  Hmmm...that sounds familiar. Confused [%-)]

Guy- Too bad about those Bulgarian markings.  I have that set too and hope to build that one someday.  Sharp looking plane, and the Romanian one looks very cool on the sheet too. Thumbs Up [tup]

Roy - even though I have both I use neither. My favorite Primer~surfacer  - Model Master Enamel Flat White , but that is just me and I am a Big Fan of Unconventional Ways. Pirate [oX)]

I like a primer that I can sand if needed be to smooth out a scratch or other boo boo. The Flat White has a light porus texture so It can paint over it with no prep.  I really dislike some of the so called primer that pills up when you go to sand it Grumpy [|(]

I have three answers:

1. Use the finish color, unless it's real dark.

B. Never use a color thats the plastic color cuz I fergit where I've painted.

AND, I like a primer in a shaker cuz it goes on fast, and prefer enamels for primers since they seem to level a little better.

Unless you have the rattle can 1200 0r 1000 Mr Surfacer or have mastered it in an airbrush don't mess with it as it will be hard to get even. I use the rattle can type for primer at times cuz you can actually take lighterfluid and tissue paper and wipe off paint mistakes leaving the primer untouched. The stuff is tough.  It does sand well though when dry and drys quick.

For the most part using the base color works fine. For lighter colors or metel finishes I would go for a flat white in a rattle can or a Tamiya primer is good too.

Morning? I haven't even gone to bed yet? There you go risking live and limb on icy roads on a motorbike! What a dare devil. Do be careful. Some coo coo bus drivers over there I hear.  Gotten too quiet since the work week rebooted!  Nam is busy ensuring people have heat. Not sure why it is 65 outside here right now. Brrrrrrr December weather!

Just to clarify the Scottish Kilt and pleated cheerleader skirts are two distinctly different items. Each has it's own myths and innuendos attached but I felt the need to clarify between the Warrior's garb and the Atheletic Uniform of legend.

It's 0355 the Spit is in the primer shop, the Cane has been masked for some Dk Earth tomorrow. Doesn't look like I'm going to make the deadline at 1400hrs.  But I'm sure gonna try.  Added some pics of the bottoms of the Cane and the Buff.

I'm outta here.  See ya'll later today.

Well Im back from getting the paints and doing various chores. Ive now got the base RLM 71 on. The reason i went to get the new paints was that i thought there was a problem with the  mix in my old stock as 70 and 71 looked identical. Well the new 70 and 71 still look identical. Speaking to the LHS guy, he thinks there may be a problem with the xtracylics and says he'll contact his supplier. All this means i had to mix my own 71 (The lighter colour). I just copied a few of my previous builds in the splinter scheme. Close enough i reckon.

Now i need to leave this at least an hour and a half, id say. Then the 70 for the same, Future mmmmm, maybe ill decal straight on to the paint. Xtracrylics are semi gloss. Err i forgot to spray the yellow fuzz band DOH. Might have to do that as well. And remember im going out tonight at 6.30.

A doddle LOL.

dunno if it was said, I gota head off fast to study for a french horn performance test later today.

When it comes to priming your kit you should remember what the primer color will do to your base color.  If you use a white color your colors ontop will come out brighter and cleaner then if you use a darker color base coat.  When I only have white primer I tend to use darker colors to counter act that.  Its why I have started using Flat Aircraft light gray from testors in a rattle can to prime my kits.  (its not gray, but more of a wierd tan off white, a very nice color (used it for the inside of my M3 grant)  It works good for getting a medium ground when priming.

Lufty - looking really good, man. Don't worry - paint and decals don't really need time to dry, anyway. Wink [;)]
