Hey dupes!

I would likem to join in, not sure if what I can make fits the open slots...

choice 1- I have a started Tamiya Strum IV - wheels sanded and some hull work. Would like to finish it but fully understand if its not accepted.

choice 2 - Old classic tamiya IVD, in desert colors (or not, depends whats being built). But i see that one has been taken! I also have the tamiya brummbar...

choice 3 - Here is what I have in my stash that is left on your list:

tam35181Panzer IV J skirts

dml6265  Panzer IV Ausf. D
(but I really want to do a Tamiya first as practice!)

Flakpanzer IV Mobelwagen

ANYWAYS... I have some of those vehicles/variants but in "Tamiya" form and not DML/Tristar

Hey, no worries about the open slots. If we're able to get as many of them filled as possible, that's cool, but I'm sure there'll be some duplication - looks like it's going to be a BIG GB. Can always try to do different schemes or whatever if people end up doubling up.

Yeah, you're going to want to avoid dml6265 until you've built up a couple of other IV's...those superkits are downright SCARY! Shock [:O]

WOO!! HOO!!  I bid on and won the Coree Pz IV Ausf A kit!!  Amazingly I was the only bidder and got it for the starting price!

dupes, please ADD this to my builds!  I still want to do the Tristar D as my main kit...sort of like a primer for this resin bad boy!

The build hasn't even stared yet and I am showing my ignorance.  In all the conversation I've read that have the word "zimmerit", I don't remember seeing one that has "Pz IV" in it as well.  It's always the Tigers and the Panthers, not your basic Pz IV. So when I found this decal sheet at my LHS not only did have some interesting camo but there is some zim too.  I am thinking about #8 or #10.

I like the camo on 8.  If you read what it says under the red zim, do you think it would have a general application of zim on the tanks upper structure? EDIT... Ijust noticed it is hard to read that... says Detected on front mud guards probably on other parts as well

I am leaning to 10 as it show zim not only on the mantlet but on the turret skirt as well, which seems sort of unique(ish).  Plus the different camo on the side plate works too.  Speaking of the shurtzen, how thick is the turret and side armor?  Curious of the PE is about right or do I need to add some thickness to it.

Wing_nut

That decal sheet is AWESOME!  I covet that thing.  You must have a pretty darn nice LHS that carries those.  My LHS is pretty good, but does not have too many detail type things like aftermarket decals...

Hey, when you are done with this GB, and if you don't have a use for some of the other sets on that sheet, wanna work out a trade...?  I like 1, 5 and 9...

dupes,

My final choice will obviously be influenced by the voting over at IMS3, but at this point I am leaning towards:

a) My Stug IV.  Two reasons: I'd like to build another one with the schurtzen and I want to see what an Academy kit is like

b) Either the Hummel or... hmmm... maybe the Mobelwagon...  Not sure if I want to tackle the Hummel, but it would be a nice addition to the GB...  (Is anyone else doing one, or a Nashorn... hmm, maybe I'll get a Nashorn and do that... hmmmmm...  ERRR!!!  I HATE YOU!!! Big Smile [:D]Party [party]Big Smile [:D]  I can't wait for it to arrive!

stick man - hey don't build the Tamiya D on my account, build whatever you feel like building!  Personally I think you would have a blast with that Dragon G, unless you like cleaning up all the mold seams, ejector pin marks and sink marks on older kits.  Vinyl tracks however are much easier than Magic Tracks!

wing_nut - those Echelon decal sets are really nice! I've got one for the Pz IV Ausf H and another for the Panther D.  I'd luv to see a Mark IV in #8 or #10 scheme!

jmart - I don't think dupes has participants in this GB locked into a particular vehicle.  As long as it is a Pz IV make or variant its OK.  Duplicate versions and even duplicate kits are OK, but dupes has the final word.  It would be nice to see two Tamiya D's, but in different paint schemes!

WarHammer25 - OK, just what the heck is an Ausf. K??

dupes - sooo...I'm doing the A and a D, are you really going to build a B?   I'm sure this GB will generate enough interest to have the rest of the Ausf.s covered by the time we start!!

Wow, I log off for 6 hours and you guys all go nuts!

Ernest - it WAS you! Awesome. Glad you snagged that kit...in fact, I'm even going to try to coerce you into making it your primary build. What do you think? I would LOVE to see an A get generated out of this GB. And if you do decide to build it, I will officially tender my Tristar Ausf.B as my first entry! That way, if no one decides to do a C, I can tack that on as well. Have a feeling the D-J variants will be much better represented.

Warhammer25 - do you have any info on what constitutes an "Ausf. K"? I'm not seeing anything about this in any of my refs and am quite intrigued. Actually, what got me the most intrigued on that site you posted was the Pz.IV chassis - with a Flak 18 mounted on top of it! Yikes!

 JMart wrote:

Haaaahahhahaha....nice. Laugh [(-D]

Boyd -  no need to make your mind up yet. Wait until after the IMS3 voting happens, and see what you feel like doing then. As this one is not going to be a variant-assigned GB like the 251's, no hurry.

SPEAKING of the 251 GB, I would very much prefer to see those of you involved in that build (and I know there are several of you) doing your 251's first. This one will last much longer (I'm leaning now towards the whole of '09) and I really want to make sure that as many of the 251 variants as possible get wrapped up, especially since there were people I had to turn away from the build since we were running out of different variants. PLEASE keep that in mind!

I honestly have now idea. I actually have heard of the Flak 18 mounted on the Pz. IV chassis but it never say service to my knowledge. The Ausf K is a new one to me as well. It might have been drawn up because those guys have built them with two different turrets. Yet it makes no sense because the E-50 would have taken the Pz. IVs place and the Panthers. You would think that would have been the better tank. But maybe the Germans were getting desperate and decided to redesign their workhorse to make it more competitive with newer tanks as an interm until the Entwicklung Series came into production.

I am really contemplating to add Ausf K to my list of kits I want to build for this based on the Academy Pz. IV H/J since it is cheaper (I really don't want to tear up a $40.00 Dragon). I think I will start off with a Dragon Dicker Max and then get another variants and keep building until time runs out. (Hummel, Nashorn, Ausf E, my semi-finished Ausf J, possibly an Ausf F-2 if nobody builds it, and maybe my Jagdpanzer IV, if it doesn't get chosen for IMS3, are on my list of possibilities)

Warhammer - if you DO find any hard research on the Ausf. K, let me know. If people are going to do "prototype" variants, I'm going to want to some some sort of proof that they are representative of an actual vehicle.

 dupes,

I will see what I can find. I don't think it is in my German Late War AFV book or anything else but Google is a beautful thing. If I find anything at all other than what I have posted, I will let everyone know. I am kind of intigued by this whole thing. An Ausf K?!?! Confused [%-)]

Also, did anyone see the Tiger turret on that Pz. IV chassis on that website? I would have thought the turret rings would have been different sizes.

dupes,

Couple of things:

First, over on Armorama, there is an In-box review of the Tauchpanzer IV D. from 2006.  Here is the (working I hope) link:

http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=2078

I draw your attention because, isn't that the same 'drum' cupola that the Ausf A had?  Or at least pretty close.  If that is the primary difference, you might be able to do a kitbash (I know that we now have an 'A' for the GB, but if I know you, somewhere deep in that devious mind of yours still lurks the desire to build one all your own... Angel [angel])

Second, I draw you (and everyone's) attention to page 16 of the most recent (December) FSM.  Now products: PzKpfw IV Ausf E Tauchpanzer with betriebsstoffanhanger...

I tell ya what, if I can get my hands on one THAT is my build!  I don't even know what a betriebsstofan-whatever is, but it sure looks cool!

Edit: It's a fuel trailer...

Third, last, but certainly not least, I do still hate you... Blush [:I]

Ok everyone. I only found two sites containing any Ausf K info on the first ten pages of my Google search. Here they are:

http://calum-melrose.fotopic.net/c1175852.html

http://www.soldatini.miniatures.de/panzer-IV.html

It seems to have been a proposed variant; never made. I will keep looking for more.

I'm happy to build ether kit it doesn't really matter to me. But if Jmart's building a D I'm going to build the G but if he decides to build one of his other options than I'm going to build the D.

Besides both my D and G have been calling to me "Build me" "No build me"...LOL

Dupes m'man! You inerest me! I have almost all the AM bits to fix/update Italeri's Jagdpanzer IV L/70, all I really need is the Cavalier zim set to go with Academy AM tracks, Tamiya on-vehicle equipment and a turned barrel... I've been looking for an excuse to do this one. I'm up to my sponsons in group builds, though, having just expressed interest in the Reich Defenders too, against my better judgement. It's a long timeframe? I'll be keeping it in mind! (And I wanted to do a StuG IV, and a standard Panzer IV... Heck, I have the Ostwind too, and several others...)

Hey dupes,  Since wingy is building a H, I might want to switch to a J.  Dragon USA has them on sale and found the big eduard PE set with the mesh skirts that is calling to me.  MMMMWhistling [:-^] Lets see Mother-in-law wants to know what I want for Christmas.

But if that doesn't work, like I said I will be doing either #2 or #3 from the same echelon decal set that wing-nutty has.

Since I put my StuG IV on the IMS3 list, I'll join here with the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf H, Tamiya 1/35. If my StuG isn't choosen, then perhaps I can add it here if I'm done with this one.

Cheers,

Italeri makes an H as well.

Of course I'm in with another build I'll never finish. It's one of the oldest in my stash, so now I have some motivation. I'll  be building the Tamiya J in 1/35 with Eduard PE schurzen. Not the mesh ones, but ones that were used on the H and early J's. The Tamiya kits were closer to the early J's.  Whoop whoop.

And seeing as this is going to go on for all of 09, you can also put me down for the Italeri 1/35 Ostwind. Thats the only other Pz IV i have that no one else is doing.

Activity galore...let me see if I can address everybody here. Big Smile [:D]

Moose, stickman - let me know what you guys decide to go with. Again, it's cool if we're able to get one of everything, but I have a feeling there will be some duplication. No biggie.

Warhammer - a K would be fine...if you can show me that there was ever such a thing as a K. It certainly didn't go into production, and I'm unable to find any modifications that have been labelled as a "K", but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Azgaron, Thunderbolt, Tigerman - you guys are added. Welcome to the club!

Bish - put you down for a second build, an Italeri Ostwind. Is that kit still available anywhere, or is it OOP? I NEEEEED to get one! Very surprised that Tamiya has never released one...all they have to do is make a new turret.

Boyd -  of course I need to find some way of making an A - you know I'm going to build one of each of them! (major project number 3...heh) Looks like that D cupola is close, but not quite. Not saying it couldn't be used as a basis for an A cupola, but that early one is considerably different. Saw that Betreiboffanhanger variant built up at the Dragon booth at Nationals (no paint) as a pre-release, looks VERY sweet!

Dupes,

I've seen three of the Italeri Ostwinds, new boxing (the blue bordered one) over the past week at one of my LHSs...  But I got the Wirbelwind at a good deal, so I went with that one.  I "may" still add another for the GB, to see if we can in fact reach 1000 ROADWHEELS!

dupes,

I am running into a brick wall here. I have been unable to find anything else that even mentions a K. None of my references have anything about it. I doubt if it ever happened. I am trying to find more, like if there was a one off, but I doubt I will find anything more.

Edit- Well, I just became a member of the Achtung Panzer forums. Maybe I will be able to find something out there.

Hey dupes, I'd love to join this group build. I have a nice "one off" or "what if" kit of a panzer IV mounting a schmall turm (panther f turret). If this doesn't qualify let me know, I have plenty of other choices in the stash.Evil [}:)]
