Bish - put you down for a second build, an Italeri Ostwind. Is that kit still available anywhere, or is it OOP? I NEEEEED to get one! Very surprised that Tamiya has never released one...all they have to do is make a new turret.

It's one of the kits i have had for years, like the Kugelblitz, which i beleve has just been re-realesed. A Tamiya one would be good. I believe the Italeri one is not the production version but one that was shown to Hitler, a sort of demo model, though i have no idea what the difference is.

Does anyone know if and when the new Dragon Pz. IV Ausf D mit 7.5cm L/43 is available and where? If I can find it, I might build it as well.

It is about midway down:

Well, according to a member of the Armchair General forums (that is were the Achtung Panzer forums are) that is from Germany, the Ausf K wasn't even a paper-project. Just something someone at Krupp thought up. Here is what he has to say:

"It's fantasy, not even a paper project. However there was a Pz.Kpfw. IV project with sloped armor. The original concept for the Ausf. H, discussed between December 1942 und February 1943, had a 50mm sloped glacis plate, 80mm hull, 20mm forward belly plate, 45mm sloped sites, 45mm turret rear, reinforced roof, wider tracks, and triple or steel-tired roadwheels. In February 1943 nearly all of the planed new features where dropped, as the projected tank had reached a weight of over 28 tons and the demanded increase in production numbers didn't allow for such major design changes.

and:

"The Schmalturm auf Pz.Kpfw. IV was a Krupp proposal from November 1944 and was never really seriously considered."

So I'm looking through the stash tonight looking for a kit to start and finish during my upcoming week off, and a surprise popped out at me.  I had a 1/72 Hasegawa Late Jagdpanzer IV L/48 in the stash!  I think that'll be my second project for this GB. (or first, depending on the Dicker Max)

In case you were wondering on the vacation project, I'm going with a 1/72 DML Panther.

I would love to see a concept of the IV with sloped frontal and side armor. The Schmalturm would be a bonus. Can someone make a drawing please???? LOL

This is the link to the achtung panzer page that deals with the Pz IV. About 3/4 of the way down there is a sketch of the Aufs H with proposed Panther F turret.

http://www.achtungpanzer.com/panzerkampfwagen-iv.htm

Also, while it mentions an Ausf D with an l/48 gun, it dopesn't mention the L/43. Could this be a misprint or a slip up by Dragon.

tigerman,

Here is a link I posted earlier. It has a model of both the K, a regular hull with the Schmalturm, and a K with the Schmalturm.

Here's another version someone can build. It's a 5 cm  PAK 38  mounted on an early PanzerIV.

stick man,

I thought you were building an Ausf G. Are you building the Ausf E as well? If so, I would go with the DAK version.

Heh. Good idea detailfreak, I know some people were pretty bummed about the lack of a "Winter Warriors" GB for this year. It'll re-appear next season, though. I promise! Got you down for the DML F2(G).

BigSmitty - I think we're well on our way to hitting all thousand roadwheels. It's a good goal, anyway! Big Smile [:D]

Panzer88 - will put you down for the Pz.IV w/Schmallturm. Do you happen to have any pics of that? Wow, don't I wish I had enough refs to make all of those 88 fittings work...Shock [:O]

Warhammer - that's what I thought about the K. Let me know what you'd like to do instead.

Moose - congrats, man! Hope you still have time to build. Got you down for the H.

For those of you that haven't decided yet, or are undecided, no hurry! I'd rather not change people's entries several times while you're making up your mind.

dupes,

I am going to do the new 1/35 Dragon Ausf D mit 7.5cm KwK.40 L/43.

I will be adding my 1/48 Tamiya Ausf J as well with Zimmerit but it will be my last build. I will also most likely do a 1/35 Dragon Dicker Max and Hummel Late(I am pretty sure I will be getting those for Christmas). My 1/72 Dragon Jagdpanzer IV L/70 is also a good possiblity for a fifth build if it does not get chosen for the IMS3 GB.

Hmmmm..... I have several kits to choose from:

Dragon 1/35 Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf. D 3 in 1 (the one with the bagillion parts)

Dragon 1/35 Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf. G (leaning towards this one at the moment)

Tamiya 1/35 Flakpanzer IV Mobilewagen (might do this for something different)

decisions decisions.......

Dupes do you mean of the kit or the actual vehicle? I've only seen drawings of the proposal with the schmall turm. But from what I've read they tried out a regular panther turret, just to find out it was too heavy. It's actually a kit from Best Value Models and it consists of parts from different manufacturers(Tristar,Italeri and a resin schnallturm) and some photoetch thrown in for good measure. I 'll probably have to buy some extra photoetch also for the wire mesh schurzen. A lot of work involved from what I see in the directions removing this, adding that,..etc. That whole Panzer IV Ausf. K is very interesting too.

I'm in.

Dragon Pz. IV J Late. kit #6080

This will be my first time tackling a Dragon kit and truth be told, I'm a little daunted. Never done individual tracks but I've seen and saved enough tutorials that I shouldn't make a complete hash of it. I have several Dragon kits in my stash and always open them, look at all the parts and toss it back on the shelf. This looks like as good as an excuse as any to finally take the plunge.

Jeff
