Eatthis-I can't really comment either way on the weathering-maybe the rust streaks could be 'blended'/faded a bit more.  Also, I think you would have the freedom to weather a little heavier elsewhere given the conditions that these ships endured-I'm sure that there wasn't much time devoted to keeping them 'looking like new'.

Karl-continuing to look good.

Carlos-fantastic job on the weathering.  Tell the elves 'good job'.

Richie- Excellent work on that floatie thing! Big Smile [:D]  One of their best looking Seaplanes IMHO. Thumbs Up [tup]

Karl- Looks like you are about ready to cross the finish line, looking very good indeed.

Carlos- I like your weathering, very well done!   Can't wait to see more of this one. Approve [^]  PM inbound.

eat- I would agree with Bob, blending the rust into the surrounding paint would really help.  Looks like the colros are spot on to my eye though.

One method is to show some of the paint faded/weathered.  There are a lot of great tutorials out there...one method would be to dry brush some lighter shades on the darker area of the hull.  Another method is an wash to highligh areas.  Some use chalk pastels to shade areas.  You can do a search on weathering techinques in the Forums and you might want to check www.swannysmodels.com for some great techniques.

FSM has some guides that can be downloaded, but some of them may be at a small charge.

Again, I'm not a ship person-most of my projects are armor & planes, but the techniques should transfer.

Carlos, looking good there.

Eatthis, for rust streaks on armour I use a dab of rust coloured artists oil paint. Just take a flat brush, which has been wetted with thinners and draw it down.

This should produce a graduated streak that gently fades.

Paractise on an old kit or some plastic card.

Thanks for the comments guys, I aim to have this one done in the next couple of days, so no pics till then.

Hey all, I'm really impressed at all the progress so far.  These builds are looking terrific Thumbs Up [tup]

Now I have been complaining about the salt technique for weathering and many of you have recommended sand.  I'm in Colorado, what we call sand you'd call gravel.  I've decided the best course of action for me is to combine a sand-retrieving trip with a research junkett so next week I will be grudgingly going to Honolulu to pick up some sand.  I figure while I'm there I'll also grudgingly get you guys some "Research" pictures of where the war started for the US.  And if my wife will let me I'm hoping to hit some of the air museums.  So yes, I'll miss an entire week of modeling and be behind on my Jill and Avenger builds, but I think that to deliver the best possible kits to this GB I need the research.  Plus I need sand.  It's mainly for the sand.

I haven't thought of sugar......

I think what I am trying to avoid is things that might melt with the water used to apply it.  I had a nasty experience with Salt on my Dauntless build a few pages back in that the residue from the salt mask reacted horribly with the dullcoat and made the plane look frosty.  I think sugar might do the same thing i.e. dissolve in water and leave a residue.  But hey, I'll give anything a shot.  I suppose while I'm in Hawaii next week I can pick up some sugar cane too...Wink [;)]

Thanks bobbaily, I'm still looking around for more info and pictures.

Heres what my first B-29 looked like in side.

I know I made many mistakes on "Humpin Honey", but I have learned from them and Bockcar will turn out better.

I know it isn't easy to see in those pictures, some of the seems weren't sanded down, putty was not sanded down and smooth.  And areas around the front canonpy, that didn't match up right.  Other than that I think turned out great.

Thanks Frank!!! Looking forward to more pics of the Zeke soon!!!

Stu, have you tried home improvement places or garden departments? I like your idea better though!! Going to an area with THE history and getting sand to use on models of that history's beginning.

Daniel, as long as we learn from our mistakes and improve, it is not then called a mistake, it is called experience.

Daniel-nice job on your B-29.  It's a shame that all that great interior detail is hidden after the fuselage is glued together.  Looking forward to following your new build.

Yes it was very disappointing, when I glued the fuselage together, and noticed you couldn't see any of the inside, just the front were the pliot, co-ploit, and bombardier.

Daniel, the B-29 is a beauty. Ill bet for Bocscar you dont bother with any of it. LOL. I know i sure as heck wouldnt .

Ive done a bit more on the Corsair. Seems to be going slowly for some reason. I got a long weekend so ill see if i can rememdy that, anyhoo, the pit,

I used the kit decal for the IP and, as always, it worked like a charm. Ive not put the seat in yet as im undecided on wether to put the pilot in. If i can paint him half reasonably, he in.

Ive got the fuse sides and inner wing together as well but ill post some pics when the seams are done.

Luft, great looking cockpit, very nice detail.

Yeah I'm not doing any of the inside area's, just the bombay, front cockpit area.  It also save weight.

Oh well thats sorted then. Ill leave the freeky looking chap out. I was in 2 minds wether to add him or not. Why didnt they give thier figures a better pose like they did in the P-51D kit,

Heres a question about paints for the beast. Im going to do the Blue over the intermediate blue over white, scheme. I use Tamiya acrylics generally and the destrucrtions call for AS-8 AS-19 and AS-20. All well and good but i need the Pot numbers. Any ideas?

Aaron- I was wondering why I never saw you over here, figured you didn't to play with us anymore. Boohoo [BH]  LOL, whattcha gonna build?  A ship?

Daniel- Excellent looking build, love the mighty B-29.  Bummer you cannot see much of the hard work you put into the innards.  Looking forward to seeing Bock's Car!

Guy- Excellent work on the office!  Here's the mixes I use for those colors:

Intermediate Blue- 50% XF-18 Medium Blue and 50% XF-2 Flat White.

Sea Blue- 50% XF-17 Sea Blue and 50% XF-8 Flat Blue.

You can play around a bit with these for different levels of fading, but that should get you started. Thumbs Up [tup]
