Sarge, i reckon you should do a tiddly jap tank as well. The kind you look at and say 'Aah, can we keep her?' The sub looks cool beans for sure. Are you and Sean going to do another head to head on this GB as well? Oh the humanity!!!

Football soon, Grand Prix in the Afternoon as well as the Mighty reds playing Chelsea. Yes Dave, ill have it finished by this afternoon, LOL

Aaron, both the floating targets look like being great looking builds.

Does a sub count as a floating target?Confused [%-)]

Fine Molds do some very nice Japanese armour,

Rather like the SPGs.

Summit, that will certainly be a very cool build. Is it the clear version?

Guy, nice job on the undercarriage.

Dave, Duh, January equals New Years!

Is one of those next Karl? I saw 2.5 HA-GO tanks when I was stationed on Guam in 89-90. What I mean by 2.5 is that there were 2 complete type95s and one that had been knocked out, and it was just the bottom hull and engine, with a gaping hole on the left side where whatever displaced the upper half entered. Trying to find the pics I have of it.

Hello everyone,I finally plan to get started on my DML m16 gun carriage this week,I cleaned up a couple of projects and are ready to go.It looks like a nicely detailed kit,if it goes together as nicely as the puma I just finished,I will be happy.

Lots of great work going on here in this build,it's hard to sort thru with so many pages, but the campaign is producing some nice builds.

Jay, nice job on the pre-shade.

It certainly does not look like your first attempt.

Models for Sale in the UK still have some of the FM armour kits for sale.

Sim, I've made my pilgrimage to the Darkside this year with the Puma!

One target a year is usually enough for me.

hmmm Confused [%-)] No updates from Aaron in the last 12 hrs.. No Doubt he has finished the I-19 and knitted a scarf as well..

Jason -  I  have never done any preshading myself (most of the aircraft I build has raised panel lines) But I am Very Impressed with how your P-47 turned out Thumbs Up [tup]

Karl -  What scale are those Japanese kits ? The I-400 is not the clear version nor will I be building it on this GB (yet) as I have a few more "need to builds" in the lineup first.  Like the "Myrt" Whistling [:-^]

Ha I am from the government and I am here to help!

Update soon Sean! Watching glue and paint dry is kinda boring!

I have build most of the FM Jap Armor kits. The CHEAPEST as they used to be really expensive!  is to order straight from Hobby link Japan. Have to wait on the mail but it saves a lot. Depending on the yen.

1/35 IJA Type 97 "Te-Ke" Light Tank
Code: FNMFM-10

Karl this one was my favorite it has a full interior and is really nice!

The prices have really dropped compared to what they used to be  there but E-bay and some Hobby stores still charge a hefty price.

Those are all wonderful 1/35 scale although some are small enough to pass for 1/48!

The sub is wrapped up like operation pettycoat still!  I use yarn as it is soft and stretchy enough to not damage paint. It holds better than rubber bands on long hulls and fuselages and you can control the tightness. For tougher jobs or unpainted  ones nylon kite twine can be wrapped tight enough to squeeze together some pretty badly warped things!

The Conning tower has slowed me down just a little. Warped a bit and had some work that needed done. Glue drying. Excitement!

Jay! I missed the Thunderbolt before! It is looking awesome!  Are those 41st fighter group markings?

Sean, as Aaron said, they are all 1/35, though the tankettes are tiny, see below...

Anyone fancy that as a dio in 1/35?

Aaron, nice progress on the non-floating floaty thingy.

Yeah - thats what I was refering to a page back or so - Where they are taking the "Pedal ~Tank" home for the kiddos.. Propeller [8-]

I would attempt a dio of that - I have the Shermans, just need to find the "Pedal Tank"

Aaron- Great tip on the yarn!  That may come in handy in January. Thumbs Up [tup]

I have made some progress on my Zero, and have pics to boot!  Wing is attached and finished, and Iam putting the finishing touches on the scratchbuilt bomb rack and bomb.  need to install the wingtip lights yet, then clean up the canopy bits, add some details to the gunsight, and seal up the office before priming everything. And look- I actually glued the tailplanes to the fuse before painting this time, and I haven't even made up a stand for it yet! Propeller [8-]

Thanks Frank! Awesome work on the Zeke! I like that bomb!  The Guns extc! I am a late reader but it looks like part of the first Kamikaze attack from the Phillipines in config at least!  Cool none the less!

Like that Karl? LOL!  Isn't the size  diff crazy?  I mean even with the front line Jap Tanks the types 95 and 97 they musta felt like a Sherman against a King Tiger!

Not a lot of success with them against the US I am afraid. The US tankers quit using AP rounds on them cus they would pass right through before exploding so they used HE ammo and the effects  were devestating!  That is why so many Jap tank pics look clean blown apart like a direct artillery hit.

Think I am doing the sub deck in wood. Hard to convince me that it wasn't gray but Hey I am a conformist and it looks cool!  Maybe later I will do another in a later war config and colors.

Jason, the P-47 is looking way cool. I think you nailed the pre-shade. Very effective.

Great improvised Dio Aaron. That B&W piccy is a famous one for sure. Id love to see his sarge when he came back with it and said 'Go on, can i keep it?' The Subs looking cool and your tip for keeping the thing together is deffo a goodun.

Frank, The Zeke is looking stupendous. I always love seeing planes like that. All ready and expectant of paint. Really the start of the creativity in my eye. Id actually buy planes ready for paint. LOL. Any idea on a paint scheme yet?

Well my 1st impression was why does it have a bandaid on it? Then as I looked closer I saw things. Strange things that gave it away as a DayWalker Build! The reason he has the pit all covered with a bandaid is it actually has one of his 109 pit specials inside!  He isn't fooling me one bit! He is slowly coverting this into a 109 M-1000.2  Don't believe me? I bet it gets a splinter camo scheme before the weekend is up!  You know Japan had a 109 E they used it to compare test and performance to the Tony that had that liscence built engine. A 109E with meatballs!   What a thing to see eh?  Don't tell Guy , FRank or anyone named Mike though!

You betcha!  Not sure yet on the actual machine/unit, possibly a generic Special Attack Group aircraft. Thumbs Up [tup]  Thanks fellas!

Sarge- DANG!!!  I'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those mettling kids!

Guess I had better stop work on the spinner spiral! Propeller [8-]

Duh thats right the 348th Fighter group was in my mind with the white tail! Looks great Jay!

Frank it's not how you meddel but what you meddle with!

Now back to business!  Getting ahead of myself so time for an update !

Let me show how I handled the wooden deck. Similar to what I did on the Gorizia.

Painted the whole thing deck tan. Not a big fan of Tamiya Deck tan colorwise. Looks like Panzer interior buff to me. So I got a whole mess of shades of brown and streaked them going the same direction. If you get too big of one streak use the next color to shape and shrink it.

darker colors show through more so I used smaller streaks with them.

Then using a series of washes. For this I used Tamiya Paints and Alcohol for fume contol!

I lighten and blend the colors much the same way you would blend a hard camo pattern to make it softer.

First I used a darker color in the wash as the Jap wood decks ( Ships that had them as oppossed to linoleum) Were darker than a teak deck and exposed to sea water and weathering on subs almost constantly.

Notice I have nothing mask. The colored wash is thin enough not to significantly change the gray or red color. Just kinda weathers it which I like.

Now to finish it off I washed the whole sub with a nato black wash in alcohol as well. When it drys it looks just terrible all the white residue or whatever it is that marred the finish of the paint. This can be used for an effect as well for scale salt and corrosin.

Now to tone it all down and control this effect is simple. I have a rattle can of acyrilic matt finish for art paintings. Low fume low oder which is a plus. Dull coat will work as well but it is laquer based strong smelling and can effect acyrlic paints and even deepen their color.

WHite marring all goes away  if you want it too.

So retouc the gray metal parts on the deck and you have I think a convincing wood look. Deeper than the Gorizia on purpose.

Close up with the camera flash makes the wash look kinda harsh but in regular light sitting on the table it is starting to look pretty convincing.

Time to start adding the details eh?  Great part about the alcohol and paints I use is it drys very fast as well.  Back to it men!

Guy- I'm with you!  Nothing quite like a model sitting there waiting for some paint, truly a moment to be cherished. Approve [^]

Aaron- You're not done yet with that sub?  What is taking so long?  GET TO IT MAN!!!  Seriously, looking very good, and I bet it will be ready for bath time!  Not a big fan of Tamiya Buff?  Actually, that is one of my favorite weathering colors. Thumbs Up [tup]  Can we expect to see a Ki-84 on your bench next? Whistling [:-^]

Hey guys, just wondering if there's room for one more?  I've got a Tamiya F4F-4 that I'm starting for the Secret Santa GB III shortly and from the looks of things in here, the Allies need some help..  What say you?

 Thanks Jay!

A wildcat sounds good to me?

Frank got all the kit parts on and painted. Killed My Camera battery cuz I left it on so it is charging.  So in what about 24 hours used and painted the kit parts and still got anotther 24 hours to rig cranes and add some little details in the few refs I can find. Pictures are terrible.

Looks like I will have no trouble getting er done in Dave's 48 hour time limit though!  Good to go!

How bout you? You got the splinter camo on that zeke yet?  Remember you can't spell 109 without the O ! Make a Toast [#toast]

That Tankette picture is just way too cool.  Definitely crying out for a diorama project.

Frank, looks like another dandy build well on its way.  I'm looking forward to that spiral spinner on that.  Wink [;)]

Aaron, the sub is really looking the part too.  I'm currently working on the snowberry deck and I'll be giving some of your technique a trial.  The yarn tip looks cool too.  I'll store that away in my tool box for future use too.

Jason, nice work on the Jug.  Love the way the preshade came out.  Thumbs Up [tup]
