Carlos, I think by the time you put the canopy over the top the IP will probably look fine.

With the rest of the aircraft painted, there'll be plenty else to look at.

Well I could not find my war relic pics I took on Guam when I was stationed there in 89-90, but I did find the negatives and had some reprints made. I scanned them and want to share them with you guys. The second pic is what is left after a left rear 3/4 shot from a Sherman, I think, judging by the size of the entry hole. Anyways, here are a few.

Intact specimen

FUBAR specimen

Woo-Hoo! I nabbed some nice superscale decals for the Hellcat today at the local IPMS show! Actually I made out like a bandit: 5 kits, 2 sheets of decals and a book for under $50.

I've started painting the Hellcat today and once Hallowed Eve is over and I've de-toxed the kids I'll try to finish the painting.

I feel like I'm on Nutra System becuase I am Back in The Game!

Does anyone know what color the 500 lb. bombs on a F6F-3 Hellcat would be? I'm guessing OD, but would appreciate a solid confirmation if someone knows...

Mucker, I would say more than likely yes, they would be the usual OD green with the yellow stripe around the nose. That was common to all branches of service I believe.

Richie- Those are some very cool pics, I would love to see those in person! Big Smile [:D]

I managed to do some work on the Zero this weekend, adding a coat of Future and both(?) decals.  I'm leaving the stencils off of this one, as the mottling would have covered most of them anyway.  Here's how she's looking today...

I believe "top notch" would be the correct response, Frank. THe mottling is not only to scale, but also extremely well executed. Good stuff, my friend.

Thank you Frank!! Yeah, didn't actually go in the shed type building, sure there was some really cool stuff in there. There is also a tank graveyard somewhere buried in the boonies that I never got to. Driving around the island right next to a residential area off the side of the road was a preserved with paint shore gun, think it was around the 4-5 inch range. The entire southern end of the island had to be replanted from all the shelling after the war. You could look out across the contours of the vegitation and see the scars. There is a couple Japanese freighters sunk in the harbor, Amtracs and a sherman just off the coast where they came ashore. There is also a Zero in about 50 feet of water off the southern coast of the island that, sadly, has been picked to pieces by souvenier hunters. For a duty assignment it wasn't half bad I must say, but a rock 35 miles long and 12 miles wide in the middle of the Pacific Ocean gets awfully small after a few months.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Your Zero is looking GREAT mate, Love watching your work come together, really do!Thumbs Up [tup]

I think it is especially impressive that he has scratch built the entire radio compartment in the rear canopy from Tamiya tape!  Only Frank would try to achieve such a daunting task! Whistling [:-^]

Jason I'll be looking forward to seeing your pics, I've been following the progress of that kit from a few pages ago and it was shaping up really nicely.

Next, well my vote would go for a Wildcat or a Pete

Frank the Zero looks great but I hate to point this out but haven't you forgotten the engine and prop? Wink [;)]

Richie thanks for sharing the pics and stories from Guam, but was that a Japanese dinosaur and Rhino spotted in the background?

Carlos I agree with the others, the IP looks just fine but by the time you put the canopy on you will barely be able to see it.

Cheers all

all...just a quick Buffalo update....got the beast closed up except the front cowling ring....and its not lining up too well either..Banged Head [banghead]

Lots of little seams to fill so I decided to try the stretched sprue method...worked great for filling in long thin seams....hit it with liquid cement and the sprue melts into place...very nice...like arc welding..still needed some putty on the bottom though...oh well..

first coat of primer and paint just around the corner.
