Jason the Thunderbolt looks just fantastic from where I'm sitting, I really like the way you done the weathering, nice job. I'll mark that one as done on page 1.

The RAAF used Mk.VC, Mk.VIII & Mk.IX Spitfires in the pacific war from 1942 to 1945. If you do a Mk.VIII you can always do it in the famous colors of 457 Sqn RAAF

Yes yes got some actual shots of the flyable example but bugger it if I can find them when I need them. will keep looking. Yes, spits were very promenent in the pacific through the RAAF at first and were highly regarded by the Zero pilots as worthy adversaries!!! Even Mustang pilots have said' I'm glad they are on our side'!

I'm getting close. Here is the F6F curing after a decal-seal with Future. I'm thinking of a stark black panel wash and then a clear-flat cote. Outside of my unintended hiatus, this Arii kit has been pure fun.

I appreciate it, Jason. I've seen some off-white washes, but personally don't want to go with that one. Maybe the green will sell me

Looking very good Charles!  Those photos from Jason are the ones I was thinking of when he mentioned them.  I like them a lot, yellow ochre would be perfect for that machine of yours. Thumbs Up [tup]

Geat pics, Jason. Much better than white. I may dry to darken the yellow ochre a bit. I want a clean looking build with this one, one that shows panel lines but not ones that stick out.

Question for the masses

When painting the cockpit how do you like to do them?

Airbrush the main color then hand paint the black boxes.

or paint everything black then mask them off?

I am not really happy with the way the handpaing came out so thought I would ask

Jason,

When painting things with multiple colors always start with the lightest color first.  Black will pretty much cover everything so save it for last.  Just mask around them carefully and you should have no problems. Use small pieces of tape to mask off the boxes rather than trying one large piece and trying to cut the holes for the boxes.  Hand paint or spray away, your choice.

Jason,

I'll second lewbud's comments.

Typically I'll

1. Airbrush the base cockpit color, as Interior Green.

2. Hand paint the black boxes and control panels.

3. When everything is the right color, I'll give it a good sludge wash to highlight the panels.

4. From there I'll do some light drybrushing and add the details like silver to levers and switches, red and yellow to buttons and lever handles, etc.

5. Finally it all gets sealed in with a flat cote.

Just use your own evaluation along the way as if it's done "right". After all it's your model, so if you like the look, go with it.

Dave Ouch, that looks bloody nasty, I hope you're not in too much pain with that knee.  By the way watch out for those Micro Chisel's they are incredibly sharp and it's really easy to remove detail from your hands as well as the cockpit.

Jason the front office on your Wildcat looks great, keep the pics coming.

Darren.

If it is not too late I would like to join in on this sucker.

The wife is away for the week so I have a chance to really try and put a dent in the stash and get a few GB's done.

If you I am still able to get in on this one, I will build an Academy Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat.

Thanks

guys.....question...I was just spraying my Buffalo (boy that sounds wierd) first coat of grey. I'm using Model master Acryl....I think I have the paint thin enough but then it cakes up right away in my airbrush nozzle....so I get sputters and the flow stops. Its right after the first couple of sprays too...anyone else having this problem??? It seems to be with the MM acryls I dont have problems with Tamiya acrylics or any enamels....Banged Head [banghead] Then it takes a half hour to clean the gunk out of the AB....

Thanks..

Charlie Carlos-I use MM Acrylics often and have found that it's always best to add a couple of drops of MM Acrylic Thinner-I believe that the thinner has a retardant in it that slows down the drying and preventing dry tip.

Carlos, I had a similar experience with another brand of acrylic paint. Have never used MM acrylics. Likewise, Tamiya and Gunze never give me any troubles. The brand that did it to me was Sullivans craft acrylics, but it was only the gray that did it too me. Sorry can't give any suggestions, but do know how frustrating it is I asure you.

Mick Sign - Welcome [#welcome]aboard!!!! Looking forward to seeing another cat!!!! What scale is it btw?

I cant find MM acryl thinner anywhere.....I have Tamiya acrylic thinner and thinned the paint with that, it looks thin enough in the bottle...hmmm

Must look more online see if I can find the MM stuff...

Thanks

Thanks guys.

I will likely be starting the Wildcat tonight. Should be a quick little build as its just a wee 1/72 scale. No detail in the cockpit, I am likely going to do it wheels up. The kit comes with a display stand in box, I havent done a single in flight kit in my life. Should be fun!
