Wow, i forgot how quickly this GB got into gear. Yesty, Nada, today, WOWZERS.

I see some awesome work being produced but whos going to be 1st past the post. Looking at Billy Bondos Ford, i reckon itll take longer to decal the beast than build it. Still waiting to see the uncut sprue shots of Aaronski's Lanc. Thats going to be good.

My Alby build is sheduled for the 17th and 18th. This as i dont have a weekend as im working. Youll all still be here? Right?

 As per the rules dictated by Dave the dictator and reuttered by Cpt Bondo the utter here is the start showing the 1/48 Tamiya  Landcaster Grand Slam! (prop action).

WOW!  Here we go.  Great to see so many allready going on.  Dave is gonna lose his mind again keeping up with all of the builds.  Poor lad!  Besides that, he is gonna build too.  I gotta learn that trick on how to run a GB AND build something there too! LOL...

Aaron- You are really doing it, good luck to you!  

Bondo- A Mach 2 kit, AND a second kit to boot?   You are as nutz as Aaron.

Dave- Can you change my build to a Hasegawa Corsair Egg Plane?

 

Wow, its only day one and some of you are already almost finished! Any way, I started last night (well, 12:45 AM Nov. 13th actually). The kit is actually an old Matchbox kit rather than the LS kit I thought it was. I mistook it for an Oscar kit I had been building.

As you can see, my cat Grace has taken an interest in my activity. 

By the time I decided to hit the sack (2:15 AM), this is where I got:

So, not as far as some of you have gotten but I still have two nights left. I need to try and finish building tonight though.  You guys are looking good so far! Good luck!

I'm sure Frank will!I just found out I'm sponsoring a young guy at church Sunday morning, so that'll be a three hour break. Looks like it's gonna be takeout.Wudda you call it Guy? Chips?

Alright, I'm going to be starting at 12 noon today.  I hope to be finished by noon on Sunday.  Here are the box shots of the kits. I'm going to try; Airfix 1/72 Wildcat and Tamiya's 1/100 Me262 and Me163.

Watched Transformers early this morning for inspiration.  Still haven't decided on the paintscheme yet.  Due to work will be starting around 1900 tomorrow.  Should be finished in time for the club meeting at 1900 Monday.

The only thing that will take some time is the tail markings for the German aircraft.  Tamiya let them out.  Should not be too hard to paint the tails black make the markings out of tape and then move on from there.  At least thats the plan.

I have a qyestion on the German colors.  What would you guys recommend for the correct colors?  It calls for Tamiya AS-23, AS-24.  I have the underside color RLM 76.  Here's some of the colors I have on hand; Tamiya deep green XF-26, flat green XF-5, Gunze RLM 70 & 71, MM olive drab FS 34087 & dark green FS 34079.

Watcha got there, Roy? A Martlet? And what are those big bar thingies on the 262 sprue? Are those anglie bits on the rocket for a stand? Looks like a nice collection!

Bill, yes it is a Martlet.  The stand is to hold both the 163 & 262.  If I can't find the correct colors for the jet & rocket I may not be able to do those two

In the mean time I will work on the Airfix kit.

It is currently 2:34 Pm here...I work til 7:00 Pm. The wait is killing me and time's a'wasting!

 Ok Piccies Not much to show as of yet but I am using strateeherie!

 Not a lot to show yet been painting like crazy almost everything on the sprues.  Bit by bit. Takes time but will pay off at the finish!

 The Tamiya Landcaster 1/48 type is starting to show her age. Building the pit and crew compartment  I wasn't too happy with the lack of details that could be seen through all the windows. KInda resembles a Do-17 greenhouse wise.

 So I found some old foil candy bar wrapper and basically plated the floor panels with it like Nylonium.

 The IP is a decal. A nice one but still kinda old school. The back side of it will also show from the nose so it needs a quick jazzing up.

Drops of white glue let dry and painted silver will give a good effect that is quick. This will be followed by adding some tangled wire I found to branch out to the IP from the backside.

Using the FM Halifax build I did for experience I added some details to the inside area like  hoses made from wire wrapped around my glue applicator. 

 

 Parachutes from tissue and glue formed square and painted ans a wood floor forward that the bombadier would lay on to protect from the cold. I made this from a sanding board. Abrasive removed. Sanded the thin wood and cut boards into with a hobby knife. All pretty easy and quick. A fast wash of dark gray rinsed and resanded and you got a convincing platform instead of a plastic mold seam to see.

Also finding errors and making corrections with colors and paint instructions that are a bit over simplified!

Okay rise and shine time for me... I'm impressed by all the progress and the ambition... Bondo with two kits (one Czech! those take me a month to build) and Aaron with a 1/48 Lanc. And lo, Brett' almost done! Certainly puts my Hayate to shame.

I fixed some details, did some final sanding and then brought it to my fancy spraybooth... the veranda outside my desk.



I used the Tamiya spray primer and I realized something.... I've been holding it waaay too close all this time, which is the reason why its been glooping on for me. Figured that out and now I'm gold! I'll wait till this evening for it to fully cure so the Alclad will have a stable surface to "bite."



Oh and here it is in my super high-tech drying rack...

I wish it were Czech! Frenchie! Not that there's anything wrong with that, they do make great bread and really ugly cars.

Who made your Hayate? It looks really cool. I always had bad luck with Tamiya primer till I spurged on the expensive (even more so) "Fine" which is just that.

WOW!  I'm getting dizzy just trying to keep up with the post.  I've seen a lot of great work so far and to think everybody is trying to meet time requirements.  Good work gents!

Well, I made it to the final two for a good local job and didn't get the position.  Figuring I needed something to take my mind off the whole affair, my wife agreed that buying & building a model would probably be a good idea.  I love that woman! 

Here's what I ended up with:

Probably a little more complex that I need to try to be building within 48hrs, especially since I will be out this evening, tomorrow morning & tomorrow evening.  I've got until noon on Sunday, so it ain't gonna happen this weekend...Oh well...

I tried a new technique-using a 005 pen to outline the door openings-

This kit has more fit issues that I would have suspected and I didn't do a great job on the hood scoop and rear bumper, but I should be able to hide/divert with decals.  Also I used the new Testors Lacqure-very happy with it.

I've soaked all of the chrome items in Castrol Super Clean to remove the chrome-way too heavy.  I'm in the process of priming all the other pieces.  Hope to get the decals on the body later tonight after we get home (and the paint cures). With a little luck I should get the chasis & engine together and maybe painted tomorrow.

Bob She's definitely a keeper. I'm almost sheepish to tell people that I build little airplanes, but my current GF is all about it. She even surprised me on Veterans day to take me down to see the Flying Warbirds collection in Seattle where we spent the day looking at some amazing planes. Can't get better than that.

Bondo My mistake on the skyshark; whenever I see some unknown model company with a limited run injection kit full of flash on some esoteric subject, it just screams "Czech!" Still I want to see it get built because I might pick it up for my collection (it would look great beside a Westland Wyvern.)

Mine is an 1988 vintage 1/72 Hasegawa... its kinda like the "missing link" between their primitive 1970s stuff and the modern quality 1990s stuff. Its got great fit (loved that for this build), no flash and a really nice decal scheme, but with fine raised panel lines, and a cockpit more barren than the Sahara. All in all, barring some major mishap, it will go together real nice and good a great display model.

I had a lot of problems with primer too until l I had the eureka moment that I was way too close when spraying it. I think it works best when it gets just inside the "misting zone" where it goes on great.

a little more clean up work then it's headed for the paint booth.  While it dries i'll start on the base and I might get some figs cleaned and glued together.

 

A lot of good work going on here.  Looks like a lot of people are well on thier way.

But excelent work guys! I should be starting in about... an hour or so. When I'm outta school. Writing this in Debate sorry I'm so far behind everyone!

Wow you guys are out of the gate with a fast start and fantastic Progress. I am going to pull the "Hare and Tortise" story and wait till tomorrow to start on my kit

Axel & Oddman, I feel your pain.  I've got about 30 hrs til I can start and still have to put in a shift on Sunday.  The wait is killing me.  If I listen to the voices in my head, I may add a 1/144th B-2 and possibly the F-117 that came with it.

Good Capn Billy, looking forward to watching you whip that Skyshark into shape.

Mac, Dougums, Neu and all the others who have posted pics keep up the good work.  I'm living vicariously through you guys and gals until I can start.

Roy, wish I had an answer to your paint questions but I don't have clue where Germany a/c are concerned.  Look forward to the Martlet and the others.

Hey Roy sorry I missed it in all the commotion!

 A 262 and a comet would follow a late war scheme. The Rlm 76 is fine. Not to get caught up on number codes you can make a topside color with Dark Grey like gunship gray which is close to Gray violet and red brown or a chesnut brown ( pretty dark brown) for the violet brown color.

 If I were you I would use the rlm 76 over all as a base coat and mottle  and splinter a Olive green and dark gray. German Gray is too dark stick with a gunship gray.

 Or even the little testers bottle gray is close.

 I haven't figured out the Tamiya AS colors yet myself and they aren't too available here just yet.

Aaron, thanks for the input.  I have been cleaning up the parts for the Martlet.  This is an old Airfix kit so the molds it looks are a bit off.  The fit however is pretty good.  The pilot, well you can't see much once the canopy is installed.  The seat is the Lazyboy model.  You hear that Sean it seems that the British version of the Wildcat was equipped with a recliner chair at least according to Airfix

 Here ya go Roy!  I did these recently over at Franks 262 GB!   You can see the colors  and get close enough I would think?

 Now  whatcha think of this?

I'ts 9:00 am over here, thats 23 1/2 hours into my build.

I'm getting out the paint brushes and start doing some detail, while I still have the morning coolness, (It's going to be 102 F again today).

come on guys, how about more pics (that will give you something to do while the paint is drying). what I have seen so far is looking good.

anyway... back to it.
