Sir Bondlykins of the Grappa strikes again. Slipped in like an eel in in a greased bikini and twice as good looking. Love the colour. I think youve got that spot on. Theres something about a 262 in that colour...i dont know what it is, it doesnt shout 'Angry and dangerous' at you, but you wouldnt trust it as far as you could throw it. Like the quiet one at a fight. Hes who youd have your money on. Excellent work, Bill. Great photos as well.

Butz, Nice work on the later gun chutes. I love the Tamiya kit. Its pure genius. Youll have it wrapped up in no time. Great stuff.

 Thank you very much..!! I too love this kit as well as the a2-a I did a few years back. The only thing I see as an issue is the two circular panels in the front portion near the access doors and one just aft of the rear windscreen.

 The are split between the fuselage halfs.. Not sure what tool to use to re scribe em or how for that matter..

 Funny thing you should ask about the IP along with the Czech update set.. Make a short story long.. A guy came in who we all kno at our LHS.. He was getting rid of some of the extra AM stuff he had since he was getting ready to move out of state with his company.. Lo and behold he had the set and best of all.. He only charged me half price $15-20.. I've had this thing in my stash for like 3 yrs and I am finally using it!!

 Torqe Scissor, we need no steeekin torqe scissor..!! Thanks again for the info regarding this!! I left the torque scissor connection piece on the lower strut as if it was a field removal.. This was made with a thin strip from the evergreen rod I had laying around.

One thing about the missing torque scissor, and here's where I will lose my head to a Luft expert. That front landing gear has a lot of what is called caster, ie because the strut is angled forward, the natural tendency of the gear is to point straight ahead. That is how bicycles work: the more caster, the more you can ride it with little effort or hands off. Straight down forks don't work at all.

Hi Mike, the 2 hatches directly infront of the windscreen, on the fuse split are fuel fillers for the onboard tanks. As for rescribing them (Which is pretty unavoidable) I use a scribing template. They are PE and very cheap, http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=ED48448 its the same with the one on the spine, directly behind. The template ive shown is for a 190 but the access hatches are the same.

 If you dont have the inclination to get the scribing template, you could make your own by hole punching a piece of styrene for the rear one and similar, but 2 holes joined for the front hatches.

Bondo, i got to the bottom of the Torque scissor quandry. The early machines had a torque scissor and the larger formation light on the bottom of the rudder. The later machines didnt have a torque scissor and had the small 'Dot' of a formation light. Yey me.

Yet the U4 that im battling with had a crazy twist and turn U/C with a torque scissor mounted sideways!!!, that i just cant get my head around to understand how it worked and a small formation light.

I've got a really cool book at home... "Messerschmitt Me262: Variations, proposed versions and project designs series".

Lots of pictures from early drawings to test aircraft, the Me-109TL and others. I'll try to scan some pictures later when I get home... very cool stuff!

Finally received my kit, today .  I didn't realize it had so many clear parts.

In fact, it has two clear fuselage halves, but no solid ones.  Plus it gives you enough clear parts to do two visible engines, or two solid, or one and one.  But, both wings are solid.

So, the question becomes, do I two visible halves and two visible engines or only one visible side with one visble engine or some combination?

And another question, can anyone recommend a book that shows clear, color detail?  I got the "In Action" book and it's pretty much a waste.  It's 30 pages of fuzzy, black and white, exterior shots.  Great if I wanted to build a black and white, out of focus, jet.  Not so great for much  else.

So give me some direction here, guys.  I have an opportunity to build this kit up with wiring and plumbing up the wazoo, if I can get decent reference of it.  We all know you guys want to see me suffer doing this, so come on and help a brotha out .

Fred, you might be better off with one of the online walk aronds such as Guy posted a while back.

Which Squadron book have you got the In Action or In Focus.

Can't remember which one was in the LHS but it was pretty good as an overall review of the 262, though not much ggod for your purposes.

Dang - Thats the book I used , but then most of my builds are fuzzy and out of focus... Comes with age

I thought the fuzziness was due to dropping the parts on the floor while the paint was still wet!

That's why mine are fuzzy.

Great stuff here so far from everyone. I finally got some more serious bench time last night while watching the World Series. The fit of the Tamiya 1/48 262 kit is just beautifull. I also noticed just a couple of small things that were already mentioned. The engine nacelles in the front need a bit of pressure to push them up a bit to meet the wing. No big deal but something to watch out for. The second one that was just mentioned is the two fuel filler panels right next to the fuselage seam just forward of the canopy. I took out the small file and scraped the seam cafefull without wiping out the two acess panels then went back over them carefully with the scribe. I cleaned up and painted up both engine assemblies and also attached the wing to the fuselage. Man this is one sweet kit. I am already looking for a 1a version now to go along with the 2a. Plus I have a nice set of aftermarket decals for a 1a that I would like to use.

Poor thing just looked neglected and abused.

One of those short run kits that has tricky fitting parts but I am whipping it into shape!  Kinda an improved Me-163 Comet I think that was only made in prototype but It's kinda cool and diff?

Dave what is this about needing to use your model room for visitors!  Oh man!  I guess it depends on your visitors.
