Guy- IRT to the paint on your bird, in Osprey's "JV 44, Squadron of Experten" they describe the paint as "standard late war splinter pattern and mottle combination over the main airframe", which I take to mean hard demarcations on the wings and upper fuselage fading to mottles on the fuselage.  Tough to say from the pictures though.

Mike- Making some good progress there!

Aaron- 263 is looking good!

Looking good Mike. I like the colors. I think everyone here has pick up a paint jar that we assumed was closed but was'nt! The couple of times I did I was lucky that I only got it all over my hands and cutting mat and not the model. I did have a paint cup fall out of the bottom of my airbrush once. It was full of nice zinc chromate yellow. The steel cup bounced of the arm of the chair and sprayed paint all over my pants the grey carpet and the wall paper. You can still notice the carpet has a funny color to it there. Still better than this one person I know who tryed to perform surgury on his upper lip with a hobby knife while working on a model. I wo'nt mentioned any names but he drinks alot of tea and lives in Bornemouth?Big Smile [:D]

Hi chaps,

sorry for not posting before, but, had some problems with photobucket (or, rather, my internet  connection), but it has been fun following (or trying to), the conversation here!  Is the 263 allowed here?  If so, I've a Special Hobby 263 which I've done a little work on, which I wouldn't mind using.

However, for now, I'm building 3x Eduard 262/S.92/CS.92.  Two will be 262, one a S.92 or CS.92, but I haven't decided on the that yet.  They're in 1/144.  The interior has been painted RLM 66 from Xtracrlix, that bar the cushions which are Humbrol 186 enamel, I think (I wasn't too concerned about the right shade of brown leather, unless someone can correct me on that?).  Next I'll be painting the seatbelts, but, being 1/144 they're rather small...!

Here's one of the three, with a paintpot to show the size.  Note the photo-etched radar.

General shot of the three in progress

Close up of a couple of seats

Hope you like!  Great GB, everyone seems to be producing masterpieces!

Hey guys,

I just decided to order the Eduard PE sets for the kit.  Now, does anyone know of a reputable place to get the Aero Detail No. 9 book?  I used their book for my B-17 and it was a great help.  I just can't seem to find No. 9 from a reputable delaer.

Thanks,

Fred

Bondo: Great work on the Czech bird! Looks very nice. Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike/Butz: Very nice detail work. Should make for a nice build.

Mike/TB379: Great progress. Keep up the good work.

Mike/luftwaffle(Geez, whats with all the Mikes?): Great paint job. I really like the looks of your single seat nightfighter.

osher: Nice work. That sure is a little one.

Frank: Happy B-Day [bday] Happy belated birthday. Man, I am gone for a couple of days and I miss all the fun. Sigh [sigh]Smile [:)]

Sean and Dave: Way to bring up an awesome 262 variant guys! I just love the HG III. And I agree with you guys about sticker shock. I have wanted to build a two seat version for some time but the price keeps me from it. Though I do have this little 1/72 gem from Antares sitting around:

One of the 262 kits I ordered earlier and arrived already. I would be glad to build it up for this GB if Frank allows. FRANK!!!Whistling [:-^]

Yes that is the lad! I have to save that one for the scrapbook!

Well I managed to assemble alot of the stuff that is going to hang under the wing on my 2a which is alot of stuff compared to the 1a version. Bomb racks RATO units bombs. I just have to mount the assembled engines to the wings and then it will be paint time. Unfortunally the only place I was able to find the mask set for this kit is Roll Models. I do'nt know why it takes them 3 weeks to do what everyone esle does in three days but I'm stuck with them. I am really looking foward to painting this one but it looks like I will be waiting.

Guy it looks like you will get your whish. I will probally break out the G-55 and kick start the RA GB with my second G-55.

I guys and welcome to the first part of the twin Stormbird build. I'm starting with Delaney's #1 cockpit. This took me a lot longer then I care to admit but its all part of the process I guess.

Here is the first part from the kit

Here we have the the first of the Photo Etch parts before and after

Now before we place this first piece of PE we need to make room by cutting out the kit part.

Here the console is in place but its still not right. Its sitting to high and needs to be lowered.

Here you can see where I added some PE panels and levers.

Next I moved onto the rudder pedals. These were a royal pain in the arse and will most likely the last set I put into any of my aircraft. They are just to much work and will never be seen.

Next I'm moving onto the instrument panel. On the left is the kit part and the right is the PE part that gets placed over top the original

I painted the interior with Poly Scale RLM 66. It has a slightly bluer tone to it like some of the actual color photos of the 262 cockpit. I chose the Poly Scale over the Model Masters RLM 66 not only because of its accuracy but because it allows us to see the detail much better then the darker Model Master.

Next I moved onto the pilot seat. It was here that Murphy (He wrote a bunch of laws) reared his ugly head and I broke the seat.

My resolution to this problem was to make a Frankenstein seat. I took the kit seat, cut the bottom off and attached the PE seat back. SWEET!

Next i installed the PE framework for the seat, some levers and the seat belts. Next went the control stick and the seat. Hold on a minute. Here comes Murphy again. The seat doesn't fit in the cockpit. The funny thing is the PE seat back is no bigger then the standard kit part. The resolution was to shave down the cockpit walls with a file till the seat fit.

Finaly we have the completed cockpit

Thanks for looking...

Till next time

Dirk

Mike I am loving that violetbrown  green combo over the black.  Very wild and cool!

Dirk that is coming along those pits take so much patience but looks like you got er whipped!

Guy I thought you came clean and told the real story about how the Missus  busted yer lip after you tried to give her a 109 for your anniversary! Laugh [(-D]

Slapped some paint on the Me-262 plus 1 today.  The clear coat is still drying which gives a false orange peel look to the pic and looks like I messed up on the wing back but it is just drying clear coat.  A Flat latex with no odor that I have grown fond of.  Used to cover Acrylic paintings in Art classes but it works well for me too! Thumbs Up [tup]

I am going for the paint job on the prototype as  oppossed to a what iffer. Kinda a different look sorta with the arched mottel on top.  After she is good and dry I'll see how that Vacuform canopy works out! Whistling [:-^]Mischief [:-,]

Frank I almost sent this thing back to you so you could put one of your special 6 month quickie paint jobs on it!  Hope I am doing it justice!

Dirk -  You have just discoverd the first two rules of modeling . If I had a dollar for every time I have said #(1)   I could fill another Tomb with kits..

and well # (2) - I think he has a permanent residence ar my bench !

The extras , even though what a pain they can be are really breathing life into your build. I like it and think your doing a Fantastic Job Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike -  The paint looks Great, did you not just open this kit a few days ago Confused [%-)] Simply Amazing !

Osher - Your a brave man venturing in 1/144 scale! I dont know how you can do it. I had a bunch of the same scale kits but I sent most of them to Torment Friends on the forum.. Carry On with the micro kit Approve [^]

Aaron -  Nice paint, I like the combo. I was hoping someone would do a scheme like that.

As for the Mono - 262 , I have the bottom sprayed with RLM 76 . Still waiting for the resin wheels. Since when does Squadron ship "Parcel Post"  uggh the Pony Express traveled faster then Parcel Post... All my other orders have been by Fed Ex.

Mike, I'm loving the colour scheme on you build.  Looks pretty cool!  Cool [8D]

Aaron, the Me 263 is looking real good too.  Man you sure pump them out fast. Shock [:O]  Especially considering they are mostly limited run kits.

Dirk, the Pe pit is looking most impressive.  Keep up the good work.  Even if you can't see it you'll know it's there.

Sean, you know what I'm going to say... Pics... we need Pics!!!!

How in the world did you cut your lip with a hobby knife?  Why were your lips so close to the model?  Oh, never mind... I probably don't wanna know. Sigh [sigh]

Oh ha ha, here comes Daywaster with the baracking from the sidelines. This is a GB. Do you know what that stands for? GROUP build. That means we build as a group. Are you doing anything for this build? Whistling [:-^]

As for the lip incident. The moral to the story is, dont scratch your nose while you have a scalpel in your hand as it may hit you in the gob, on the way through.

Heheheehee! That last comment bu Guy reminded me of a story!

Once apon a time not too long ago in a strange land not that very far away, was a Rabbit named Guy who could build models so fast you had better not blink or you'd misss it!

He always tormented this slow builder that was a tortise named Frank. Frank could take six months just doing one paint job on a single prop fighter!

Anyways the teasing finally got to the poor Franky Tortise who exclaimed  Bunny Guy!  I could build as fast as you if I wanted too maybe even faster!  I just take too many coffee breaks!

Well this just made Bunny Guy Chuckle and they both agreed to a race to see who could finish 1st!

Modelers from all over the world gathered to watch this grand event of which the outcome seemed certain!

Bondo and Sean took bets behind the bleechers at least that is what they said they were doing. Mischief [:-,]

Dave set up the course and Karl served as a referee just in case there were any descrepancies!  All the Mikes really didn't care and just showed up to make dates with the Nas-Car Girls while everyone else cooked food on the grill! Except Jeremy who was eating a 6 month old meatball sandwhich that didn't make it to Soulcrusher.

Well  Karl sounded the starting pistol and they grabed the hobby knifes and clue and went at it.

In a matter of seconds Guy was finished! A beautiful 1/35 scale Dora completed on the table awaiting it's awards.

 Frank had disappeared?

On the bench was  one part partially snipped from the sprue and a note which read.

Guy you win! I have to catch a plane with the cleaning crew!  Sometimes It just doesn't pay to be fast at everything!  Have fun! I know I will!  Yours truely Frank the Tortise!
