Winter Warriors II - The Wintering!

Arki looks like you have a handle on the gaps.  They are always tougher on a 190 due to the placement of the gun blisters.  Sand carefully my friend.

MG that is sweet camo.  3 days?  Wow talk about patience.  My 1st thought was of cells dividing but thought of maggots too.  That looks like very effective camo.  You can barely make out any of the detail on the vehicle itself.  I would imagine if that were in a copse of trees, you wouldn't know it was there until you were dead.

Wow. This looks spot-on. TOTALLY worth the three days you spent hand painting it!

Wondering about your choice of a wash to get the rest of the white on there. Have you considered a thin mist coat with your airbrush? I'd start with about 10% paint, 90% thinner, and do a bit of a test-shoot onto some scrap plastic. I think you'd get more complete coverage that way rather than just filling in the low areas (like a wash is supposed to do). Just my...I guess we lost the 2 cents smilie. B@st@rds.

Seems to have fixed itself on the third refresh...although the "more" tab to edit my previous post doesn't work on dialup. Swanky.

dupes- Honestly the last time I airbrushed something was probably a year and a half ago. That's partially why I'm not gonna be airbrushing now(I have a better chance of ruining the build then improving it.)

But no fear, the wash I have has a 99% chance of being perfect, I tried it out before on other builds unintentionally and it worked.

A year and a half? Really? Wow.

I like the "unintentional" part. Heheheh.

Hey Dupes (and the rest of the group), greetings from New Brunswick,

I've got to apologize for my fashionably late entry, I just spotted this thread yesterday. I have on my "sometime this year" list a project that can drop into this GB. I picked up the Tamiya 1/48 Stork when it first released and immediately realized that I simply MUST do the winter option. I need something in my collection with skis!!  Am I too late? Also, has anyone here actually built this bird? I'd put myself in the "moderately skilled" category and have a little experience with mixed-media, I don't want to be unrealistic about thinking this kit will fall together if others had had difficulties.

How far away from the Maine border do you live?

I was thinking the same thing, there weren't nearly enough winged vehicles in here yet, and I just have a knack for bringing something odd to the system!

Distance - depends on how fast you drive my friend!! I live in Rothesay, just outside of Saint John. The occasional run to Marden's in Calais takes about 1.5 hours. Where are you located?

Hey gang, glad to be officially in on this one. Although it looks like I've got some catching up to do. (Great work on all from what I've see so far - especially love the work on the Henschel, but I am biased toward a/c!) My contribution to the build will be Tamiya's 1/48 Storch. I've attached a colour plate for those who aren't familiar with it.

Vance - you've been "officially" added to the front page with your storch. That scheme is going to be pretty darn cool. Nice!

According to my phone, it's 172.8 miles from Ellsworth to Rothesay...but almost 4 hours of drive time! Must be some slow going in there...maybe they're counting time spent crossing the border. Let me know if you ever decide to come to the Bar Harbor area.

So now that my Pz IV is done for 1,000 Roadwheels it's time to crack into the Type 90! Could have started last night, but I decided to give the office and bench a quality douching first...plus I'm waiting for the appropriate size MV lenses to show up at the LHS (should be today). VERY excited to do this one, especially with the caliber of builds already getting cranked out!

I'm still researching a winter scheme, the Squadron book has the best pic so far, and I did find a 1/4 on shot of a M-10 in a snow drift, waiting in ambush.. but the pic is hard to tell if the camo is just real snow, or snow and white wash.. the snow is drifted in around the tank..

Hi guys. Maybe you've noticed, maybe you haven't but I've not been active lately which is OK because both Bushi and Mikael have produced some excellent builds so far! Mikael, I applaud the paint scheme, I simply wouldn't have the patience for that. Good work!

Any how, I just bought my first house on the 30th of December and have since been very busy spackling, sanding, painting, tearing down, and rebuilding. I've also been busy packing. Currently, my Stuka that I'd been working on for this very thread is stowed away and won't see the light of day for a while...God only knows when. Moreover, even when we finally get into the new house, I've lost my work space. I;ll have no basement which is where I was doing my work and I'll have no extra bedroom. So it'll be kitchen counter work for me I guess but it will also push my airbrushing sessions outside... Does any one else share these space problems that I'm about to inherit? I'm trying to take it in stride and not worried about it, but I think my modeling is gonna take a serious hit for a while.

Just thought I'd share that with you guys in case you wondered where I'd gotten off to. I'll keep you posted as well as I can. Keep up the good work.

Hey Odd, first thanks for the comment, second don't feel to bad about  the space problem. I am also in the same boat. I just set up a 4ft table on one side of my living room. Trying to airbrush is a little hard, but I usually just go outside. Right now my airbrush is out of commission so I just use brushes which is new for me. You should have seen me spraying a dull coat for this GB in thirty degree temps.

Panzerguy suggested I join in with this one I started on Jan 5th. If you'll have me, put me on the list. I was building this kit so I could do my first Panzer Gray paint scheme but if I don't get it right, my way out would be to wash wash it which i've never done a white wash either.

Wrapped up a couple of other current builds I've had going on, and got to crack into the Type 90 last night. A recap of what I'm shooting for:

Additions to this kit are going to be mostly scratchbuilt stuff to represent the white sheets/tarps/whatever those are, the ID panels, and some of the stowage. To go along with that, I've got the Tamiya etch set, Tamiya ammo, the Tamiya ammo-loading set (which allows you to open up one of the top panels to show the autoloader), and a set of Warriors Modern Japanese Infantry...one has to hope, anyway, that one of these days I'll do some figs that are worth showing!
