Hello everyone!

i signed up for this group build when it started, then got involved in the NMF II GB and built two planes, so now that that is done, here I am to finally get started on the 190! After looking through the prior posts, I am kinda worried that my build won't be at the same calibre! Anyways, I am going to do the AM 190 A8. When I bought this kit (~1 yr ago), I also got the cockpit PE as well as the engine/exterior PE set- I had planned to expose the engine. I'm not sure if I am going to do that now- I'll see how the build goes. Hopefully I'll have some WIP over the week-end,

Rob

Max fax--  Welcome Sign

Dave--Tremendous finish and almost as fast as Guy!

Stump--Great mottling and chipping.  Don't go blind!

Krow--I have never tried 1:24 scale before.  Fantastic detail.  I hope you keep posting here.

Mike--The misfit was a real shocker but the group here talked me down from the ledge with the solid advice.  I used an Eduard 1:32 mask with the length cut down for the spinner.

Frank--I will post pics tomorrow.  I repainted the front portion of the wing underside with Mr Color RLM 75.  The photos I posted show MC RLM 81 which I felt was too green.  The Eduard painting instruction called for the RLM 81 but the Eagle Cals sheet called for RLM 75.  The RLM 75 is much closer to the color Eduard actually depicted on the sheet, more of a deep gray than a green.  I am getting my plan in order to paint the very heavily mottled top side and want to practice a bit with AB before I spray the plane itself.

Looking forward to your build Max!!!!Yes

Got the wings on my lil one last night/this morning. Going to add the tail feathers tonight after work. then will post a few pics. I test fitted the bottom half of the wing and everything looked ok, top halves didn't have locator pins!!! Was a bit worried at first, then realized I could fine tune the fit. There is the proverbial at the root but at least all the edges are even so that gap wasn't very big or a worry. Ok,I'm off to play with the BIG birds.Toast

Goosh... thanks everyone for your really kind remarks.  I had a lot of fun with it and a big thanks to Frank for hosting another great GB.  So what's in store for RDIV or is that already decided?

Chewy, I used MM acrylics and the main colours were RLM 76, 81 and 82.  I used polyscale RLM 04 for the yellow band and rudder.

LOL, funny you should ask!

I am thinking about holding off on RDIV for a while, and doing something a bit different for the next GB! Whistling

OK guys, here she is, you've been following along so you know the drill.  My special surprise is a Pilot and Crew Chief Spiess by Verlinden, first time I've done 1/35 figures since my teenage years, I thought they came out pretty good.  Anyway, giving some serious thought to 1/32 Dora as a follow up, we'll have to see though.

Got the wing and tail bits on!!! Now will set at the bench later this morning(2am now) and commence sanding and filling the seams. Overall withe flying surfaces not a bad fit. A few gaps at the wing to fuse which seems common to most low wingers. The destructions is dated '92 and only give color refs as Black Green, Dark Green, and Light Blue. So would this be a typical 74, 75, and 76 scheme? Just looked at the color chips in my Vol. 2 Luft camo & mark book and it may be 70, 71, 76. Any ideas guys? Anyway here's a progress pic.

Mike, what an outstanding build all round. I am especially impressed with the different styles of motteling and the great controle you have over it. As usuall I like the way you present your builds.

Sim, nice progress and I know what your going through with the paint colours issues. Cant help ya on the colours as I dont know what version your building. These late war planes had so many different schemes.

Frank, on the subject of iv, I can agree that something different for the next GB is a good idea, something totally different would be cool.

Chaps - am now ready to apply a flat coat to the bird and I guess that will be it! I have some Tamiya Flat Base which I have never used before. I have read I can use this with Future to create a good flat coat. Is this a good idea or should i get a dedicated flat varnish, and if so which one?

Thanks Steve!!!! I'm building an A-8 and will dig around a bit more and see if I can come up with a lil more definitive cor description.

Stump, yes you can go down that route if you wish. There shouldn't be any problems. In mixing it up though, add enough flat base to get it satin then add just a touch more to get it flat. If you add too much you will start to get a frosty appearance. HTHYes

Mike--Bow Down  She looks mahvalus!  It feels like your looking at a scene in th Bavarian alps.  Is that a background image or your backyard?

Stump--Call me chicken but I would never stray from Dullcoat applied with an AB.  I can't tink of anything that would make me madder than to get to the point of final seal coat and have a major disaster because of a "home brew" miscue.  It would make me

All--As I said before, I repainted the underwing forward section RLM 75  because the RLM 81 I used looked too green.  Here is the difference;

I have also nearly finished the topside camo:

Hello all,

OK so I picked up a 1/48 ProModeler FW-190 G3 at a swap meet a year back and was aware that it was missing some parts related to the cockpit.  So I bought a CMK replacement and started to work on it for this build.  I got the cockpit 99% done as well as getting the wings and the fuselage started.  And then I found out the terrible truth:  The forward fuselage cover(part E1)was missing.  Son of a &^#$&!  Well, I sent a quick note to the host of the group build and he gave me permission to ask you fine folks if maybe, just maybe, you have one to spare.  Perhaps a kit bit the dust?  Perhaps you too have a partial kit?  I believe this kit was originally issued by Trimaster, then Dragon(DML?) before the ProModeler kit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Mike

Hey folks - I've finished my Tamiya 1/48 A-8/R2! I started this as an experiment to learn airbrushing and weathering techniques and never really envisaged I would complete it. But in the process I started too use the Finescale forum and Daywalker suggested I join the Group Build. I've had so much advice and support from a large number of you so thanks so much, you've really helped me move this hobby on.Beer

Things that went well:

  • I moved my airbrushing on a 1000 per cent, and ironically found greater control at higher PSIs
  • Exploring weathering techniques
  • Using Future and flat coats
  • Using cyano without huge amounts of overspill
  • Fixing painting errors

Things that went badly (and remain so!):

  • Filling and sanding Angry
  • Decals Angry Angry

Here are a few photos - apologies, depth of field is not great and background needs tidying. I'll give it another go next weekend.

Stump--Great job on the A-8.

You finished her and that is an accoplishment indeed.  Since you have also improved your control of the AB, that is a double bonus.  This was my frist GB too and I also benfitted from the advice of he group.  Keep going with the GBs

Hugh- love that camo, don't see that everyday!  Perhaps I missed it before, but is this one going to be "yellow 10"?  Reminds of the wartime camo on that bird.

Mike- Sorry, I don't have the part you need, but hopefully someone here can help out.

stumpjumper70- Magnificent!  Really a great looking 190, thanks for being a part of the GB!  I added your finished build status to page 1.

Dave - Herman looks right at home in the cockpit! Nice work! Yes

Mike - Stunning build! Your plane and figures look great and the background makes them look so real!

Hugh - That's a crazy camo scheme but I like it! Good job!

Stump - Your A-8 looks fantastic! It's amazing how much you can learn on one build if you're willing to try. I like your weathering. Something I can't seem to get the hang of.

With so many beautiful builds, I think that I'm going to keep the ball rolling. Yellow 4 is finished! Have a look and I hope you enjoy!!!

Sorry for posting so many pictures but I was proud of the way she turned out and wanted to show her off! Embarrassed  Any comments and criticism welcome!

Stumpjumper- Great looking build, love that exhaust staining, some of the most realistic I've seen.  What's your secret?
