"Blue 4" is finished, Hasegawa's 1/48th FW-190 A-8.  Good kit, Aeromaster decals went down fine, Ultracast seat livens up the cockpit.  The only issue I had is in regards to something Frank mentioned earlier I recall, Pollyscale Flat.

I've been lucky as I have used the new formulation with success, until now.  As soon as it dried, I groaned as it had absolutely gone milky instead clear.  You can see in the pics the light "mist" the finish seems to have, that's all Pollyscale.  Frustrating to say the least, but I'm not going to do anything about it.  From 3' away, you can't tell, only up close.

It does look like I'll have to find a new flat coat.  Didn't someone recommend Vallejo?

Thanks for looking, and thanks Frank for hosting the GB. Yes

Cheers

Outstanding build arki, and in Eismeer markings to boot- LOVE it! Toast  Page 1 updated for you.

I wonder what's up with the PollyScale flat lately, that's three of us now with issues.  I used to love the stuff, now I cringe when I think about it! Dead

Officially, it ends on Halloween.  Although, an extension would be allowed if needed.  Just say the word, and I'll it to the list!

arki your 190 looks great, shame about the flat coat problem but I cant see anything wrong in the pictures. I've used Vallejo from a rattle can in the past with good results.

Stumpjumper you've done a great job, well done and I'm glad you've learnt so much.

Jeremy I love the way you paint, it looks superb, bravo!!

Luftwaffle, truly splendid looking 190 sir Yes and nice figures.

I hope to stop yapping and finally join you fine men and start building my A8 this week, fingers crossed.

Cheers....

Jeremy- Keep the ball rolling?  I think you just rolled over the rest of us! Big Smile  That thing is a show winner, absolutely flawless, don't know what else to say.

Stumpjumper- Great looking build, love that exhaust staining, some of the most realistic I've seen.  What's your secret?

Thanks luftwaffle, I really appreciate yours and everyone else's comments. As far as the staining goes I always think that exhaust stains look browner round the very edges than in the middle. This may be wrong in reality but it fits my mental image. Therefore I got some Tamiya XF-64 Red Brown and did a couple of light streaks the whole width of the wing. I then repeated for two thirds of the wing, and then a third which kind of built up a gradient. I then added a couple of drops of X-1 Black to the XF-64, tested on white paper, and then repeated the above but never quite the whole width, so that the XF-64 remained at the edges. Finally a couple more drops of black in the XF-64 and a couple of short passes over the first third of the stain (at this point it's very much based on what looks 'right') and then done.

Jeremy - I've been trying trying trying to resist doing another 190 but I think you've pushed me over the edge! Great work. Daywalker, you may be getting another entry!

Julez72- I got you on the list at the other GB!  I was hoping someone would choose a RAAF aircraft, glad to hear that is in your plans.

Arkii, very nice build my friend. I like the markings you choose, the blue number sets it off. The finish looks good from here and no sign of a problem at all. it may have made it all blend like a weathering effect in the cameras eye

Thanks, Guy.  Not my backyard, Southern California is a little "browner" this time of year and my view is mostly of other houses in the subdivision!  Just an 11x17 photo printed out for a background.

Guy--The photo below is the colour plate from the kit instructions.  I also have a similar plate from Eagle Cals.  Frank recognized he scheme as belonging to "Yellow 10" immediately.

All--I have encountered an issue with the LG struts.  I purchased AM cast brass struts from Pacific Coast.  As the photo below shows, the brass struts are almost 1/2 inch shorter han he kit struts.  That is 2 scale feet short!!!  Does anyone have a spec for the LG strut length for the D 11/13?

Hugh- Check the alignment of the gear cover bolts as well. They look like 190 legs but are short ,kinda odd.Good luck with that one ,I think I would simulate the details and dump the am parts, bummer.

Thank you ,Krow113

Hugh,

I agree- those do look short.  Here are a couple of pages dedicated to the FW-190 landing gear that may offer some insight:

Hope they help!

Hugh, this was variable ,believe it or not.  That stencil on the side of the landing gear cover actually provided guidance on what to set the struts in relation to aircraft weight.  The struts were usually set longer on the D-9 to prevent bouncing on landings.  Look at some pictures of wartime aircraft and "guesstimate" would be my advice.

Hi Stump. On the tip of the aerial stub on the tail there is a small hole. The aerial wire attaches to this with a small spring. Im sure there are better pics available and will be posted, maybe but this is all i could dig out now,
