Julez72,

Yes the Edward kit comes with colored PE, canopy masks and enough ground attack ordinance for a squadron! Also it includes 4 canopies! 2 windscreens and decals for 5 aircraft! Fans of 1/48 scale Fw-190 F-8 would appreciate all the extra goodies packed into this box. I was going to wash the sprue frames and remove everything I will not be using, that way the project will look faster to assemble.

IdeaHad a idea for the display, on one side have a plate describing how the aircraft fell into Canadian ownership, and the other side a description of its roll in the Luftwaffe, with all the under wing ordinance lined up on display. Kind of a 2 in 1 display!Cool

But i never said i would stop buying from the LHS and i figure that the Eduard 190 A-5 has all the goodies in it that i would normally order from Squadron. Suppression, Nice kit...Sooo does it come with colored PE, canopy masks ect???

Jules-assuming that you are looking at the standard kit (not the Weekend Edition), it comes with all the goodies-masks, colored PE, good decal options and a great detailed engine that will never be seen once the cowling is attached.

I have the kit in my stash but I'm waiting until I have a great deal of time to devote to it.

Thats a good idea SP,Ideawould make a nice display and would for the lack of a better word force the veiwer into taking 9 second looks....

You know what would be cool, get yourself one of those rotating platforms do one side with Canadian markings and the other with luftwaffe markings hang the ordanance on the German side and put your plates in........just a thought...

Julez72,

Yes it is a interesting idea that would utilize some of the extra ordinance. I will stick to the 'liberated' theme and did consider showing the aircraft mid allied painting. Most likely will show the aircraft shortly after the new paint, with the new owner and possibly another figure or two.Hmm

Suppression, yeah i would do the same...It would be novel to see but i wouldn't do it myself....

Bob, hey buddy how you doin? Mate the Eduard kit at my LHS isn't a weekend edition, it's the A-5 to A-8 i think and it's $20 more than the Tamiya A kit so i'll grab it next time i go in... If i did the Tamiya kit i'd end up ordering a zoom set and decals so i'll save money as well, i like one of the schemes for the Eduard kit to, horizontal black and white stripes on the engine cowl....

Jules-the Eduard kit is the way to go by the time you count the costs of the PE & masks.  Looking forward to your build-I'm going to save mine for a time when I can devote more attention to it.  I need something quick & easy right now......I'm going to go with the Hasegawa F8-having built their A3 before, it's not a complex build.  Not sure when I'll get started-I've got two Spitfires in the queue....interiors painted and that's it.

I am interested in joining in for my first GB.  I would build the PCM Ta 152H-1 1:32.  Can I still join?  If yes, how do you access the badge?  Thereafter, I assume you post like a WIP and some sort of review occurs at the end of the GB.  I would appreciate someone filling me in on the details for GBs.  This looks like a lot of fun.

Each GB varies, but in most cases, as in this one, you can join after it has started.  The rules for each GB can alos vary, and are usually posted in the first one or two posts. I think in this case, you copy and paiste the GB badge and host it yourself.

Hehehe... I like the way you think!  Consider it done. Wink

Clebode- Welcome Sign aboard!  I have added your build to page one.  As Bish stated, all GB's are a bit different but the ones I run generally are very forgiving.  All you have to do is ask to join, build a relevant model, post photos, and HAVE FUN!  That's about it.  Some of the most talented builders I have ever seen are here with us, so I guarantee this will be a good one.  Looking forward to seeing your photos, as that big TA is one would like to add to my stash someday.

Well, that would really screw the Hawaiians! I always get ticked when the Oz guys start posting their new toys on Christmas morning, and we're still getting ready to go to Mass.

Clebode, group builds are meant to be fun. Franks always are. Too many rules wreck the game. Iv'e been in many over the years, and the one thing I believe in most strongly, is you gotta finish, or do your best. Things come up, guys have other responsibilities, but its a good thing to be committed when you sign up. It's a sign of respect for the leader, who has put a lot more time and effort into running the thing than you might think. Lots of group builds get started by guys who have a bright idea one day, and a bunch of folk jump in, but then it fades away, unless the leader responds to peoples posts in a friendly fashion, keeps the first page up-to-date, posts finished pictures on his/her page, and is generally a whip in the butt about finishing.

This is where Frank is really a star.

A bit of news. I got a nice email from Sinan at Turquoise Decals confirming my Turkish decals had shipped, and offering to post pictures of my completed model on their website. Cool.

Frank, in response to your ?; it'll be the 1/72 Tamiya A-3 model. The correct designation would be Fw 190 A-3a (a=ausländisch (foreign), designation for export models). the main mod would seem to be that it has the same armament as the A-1. Any info from anyone would be much appreciated. I have zilch on FW's.

Bondo, do you mean that the Turkish A-3 had the same weapons as the German A-1. If so, then from what i can make out, it's just the inboard wing guns that need to be changed.  On the A-3 its the 20mm MG 151 and on the A-1 its 7.92 MG 17. From what i can see all you need to do is not fit, or remove the barrels, and leave a hole for the gun port.

Oh boy... there goes the neighborhood!  I feel a rash of Frankie jokes coming soon, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  It's really good to see you Guy, means a lot to me to see you, Crusherkins, and bondo here building with us.  The fact that you are willing to come here for this GB means more than you will ever know.  If we could just find a way to get the Sarge here, it would be complete madness! Frank, thanks from me also for the reference links.  There was a nice review of the PCM Ta 152H-1 I will build.  The GB concept looks to be as much fun as I hoped.  Now let me see if I got the badge thing right.

I am now really psyched to begin building the TA 152H-1.  The kit should arrive from PCM next week.  Also, based on a recommendation posted in the armor forum, I just ordered barrels for the 30mm and 20mm cannons from JB Models in Austria.  The photos on the JBM site were stunning.  I'll let all know how the real ones look when they arrive in case someone else is looking to upgun their bird.

Do i win a prize for posting the 1st  'In-progress' shots? Why not? Heres the gratuitous opened box shot, and i wont be using all the extras in those verlinden boxes. Just the flaps....possibly,

Anyhoo, ive never worked with Eduards pre-painted etch but i must admit, im pretty impressed. Why do i feel like im cheating though? LOL, Anyhoo, here it is with base coat after the raised bits have been removed,

Heres the side consul pieces in place and the dash,

another view. This time with a fair bit of dry-brushing,

and here it is all together with the fantastic painted belts,

My build was helped along the way by this,

Clebode- Looks like you have the badge sorted out, well done!

Yes, it's great to see so many familiar faces here, and plenty of new ones too!  This GB is really gonna be good.

Guy- I see you are still building at a lightening pace!  You must still have Wingus and Dingus locked up in the model room I bet.  I'm expecting more pics from you daily young man.

Guy- Herzlich Wilkommen!  Felt the same way about the new boards as you but too many good people here so I just deal with it.  Of course we have to deal with the Luftwaffle/Luftwoller confusion again.

Great start on the Dora!

You can tell the difference really easy this way:

Luftwaffle -  Waffle = USA  - Think Waffle House

Luftwoller -  Woller = UK  -  Means to surround ones self....like to woller in water.

By the way Luftwoller...  Great start!  The photoetch looks great.  Keep it coming.

I'm starting on the Hasegawa  1/32 FW190A kit.  I think this kit is kinda old...the cockpit dash ALMOST resembles the one of a real FW190.  I'm going to use my artistic license on this one.  I started painting parts on the sprues but I made a  mistake:  I painted steel/aluminum colored stuff before the RLM 02 colors.  The result is what you see in the cockpit panel photo.  I'm just going to respray it;  lesson learned.

Here is the Hasegawa cockpit panel.  Doesn't look like ANY of the references I have.  Notice the specs of metallic paint in the RLM 02.  Bang Head

Here's what most of the references I've found look like.  Sometimes the bezels are different colors but the layout is the same.

Guy that is an outstanding start!!! Really looking forward to seeing more!!!!Toast

Sk3tch I know exactlly how you feel with the specks in the paint. Happened to me when I sprayed my Jake after I had sprayed silver. I did a complete teardown of the AB and found a mass of build up in the head which trapped some of the silver. After that worked fine! Now when I spray any metallic color I tear down the head for a good scrub before continuing with other colors.

sk3tch,

Thanks for the instrument panel reference, something we all can use!Toast

Luftwoller,

It all begins in the 'pit' I am going to start Edwards F-8, the cockpit looks identical from looking at the instructions so far. Your start will help me out!Yes

Daywalker,

Looks like a great start to another epic GB. Its a shame I will only use less than 1/2 the kits parts for my unarmed version...Crying

Want to start mine, but want to get farther along on my 262 before I do.

In the meantime I put on a DVD on the 190 I got a few years ago, watched it once and then put it in the DVD stash. Pulled it out again since this GB has started to prime myself with a bit of video references. Don't want to sound ignorant, but honestly didn't know that the fan on the front of the radial engined ones ran faster than the prop!!!! So I would venture to say it was directly driven by the engine. They showed one that had been shipped to the US and were turning the prop with a close head on view. All this time I thought it just sat behind the prop on the crank, well it is I guess but the engine crank not the gearbox.
