The Official F-4 Phantom II Group Build 2011

Ken -- I had the same problem at the RAF Museum, Hendon -- big planes in dim light. My flash doesn't reach very far at the best of times, so my solution was to shoot without flash but make darn sure the camera was supported, like on top of a post or against a vertical support. That way each photograph was essentially a time exposure, and the colours came up quite rich. A tripod would be the best solution, of course, and you look like a real photographer carting one around, maybe with a cable shutter release -- if your digital is equipped for it, mine isn't...

Yes I have.  Several times.  I have also visited the Navy Museum in Pensacola.

I drink very seldom, but when I do I like beer with pizza and Mexican food.  Every so often I will have a Canadian Club when I feel a chill or cold coming on. 

Some very nice work going on.  A lot of you are really turning out some great looking cockpits and aircraft.

I am pretty lucky to live close enough to visit it on a semi regular basis.  I went twice last year and stayed in Dayton each time for three days.  I still didn't get to see as much as I wanted to.  I want to go again and take a camera with a better flash.  That is the only complaint I have is that it is a little dark on the inside.  The pictures I took were okay when I took a close up, but any that were of the entire plane came out bright on the parts closest to me but the rest of the aircraft looked dark.

I have made a little bit of progress.  My camera isn't good enough to capture the detail, but I added quite a bit to the Fujimi N.  I have the fuselages sealed up on the the N and J.  The S shouldn't be far behind.  Since my p.e. sets were for the Hase, it took a little bit of test fitting to get them to work.  It is worth the trouble, since the Fujimi is pretty devoid of detail.  Here are the pics.

Oh yeah....

I don't always drink, but when I do...  I drink Jack Daniel's.

I'm always happy to accomodate. I need to re-position the canopies. They sagged sometime between being attached and going on the shelf.

I put the Datalink on the centerline. I saw several pictures when I was doing my research showing two Walleyes mounted, and wing tanks. The link pod on the centerline was kind of a logical leap. I have no idea if it is correct.

 

And for the record. I love a good Whiskey. Makers Mark on the rocks is my usual, but if I want something a little better I go with a Bookers. Sometimes I venture into Scotch when I have the money and feel adventurous. I love a good Guinness though, it is just hard to find a place that has it on tap and pours it correctly in San Antonio.

Hi Everyone,

I got some more paint on the controls of the cockpit tonight.  I took a picture to upload but it didn't show very well and I didn't feel like taking another.  So I will take another picture tomorrow night after I get more done on it.  Not much left to do as far as paint goes on the cockpit.  Next step will be to cut the resin base off then start adding more photo etch parts.  I am going to be so ready to start working on something else besides the cockpit!

Unfortunately the only local place to get the tubing is HobbytownUSA, and ours doesn't stock the smaller diameters.

Rich -- rich port wine, butterscotch schnapps, Irish cream, homebrew ales of all descriptions, sweet cider...

Oh, and re the pitot tubes, would recommend some fine brass tubing clipped to length and CA'd into pre-drilled holes.

While in England on vacation back in 86, I grew fond of Bass Ale.  I was staying with friends in Burrton on Trent.  That's where they manufacture it.  I just loved the brewery tour. lol  But you HAVE to drink it warm.

Hi folks.  I am having a slight disagreement with the Mrs.  Maybe you guys can help.  We got to talking about my buds here on FSM and we somehow ended up on the subject of favorite beverage.  For some reason my wife thinks most of you are Whiskey fans.  I told her probably beer, then the entire convo went off over the rainbow.   So now we are trying to put a favorite beverage to the names here and see which one of us is right.  So could everyone respond with their favorite beverage? I know it's off topic, but she's driving me nuts...

I don't generally play in group builds (but I read them), but I build a ton of F-4s it seems, and I just rolled out an F-4J loaded with walleyes. I loaded what I thought looked like a walleye datalink pod. reading through I think I may have simply painted one of those early ALQ-101s after faulty research.

 

Anyone have an actual photo of a walleye datalink pod?

Oh yeah, now I see the 'mine shaft gap', ....lol.....symmetry freak, you know....lol......

It's because the nose cone didn't fit snugly and it was slightly shifted to starboard.  I have some finish sanding to do to get it smoothed out, along with a couple of other spots.

It may be lense, but the nose looks a bit cambered to the aircraft's starboard, not a crit, probably just the camera or lighting/shading:
