You're welcome, Nav... Just consider it a favor I was happy to do for you, and that I may, one day, ask you for a favor...

Would a better comparison would be percentage who finish a build?

Don Hammer, I am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your group build... on the day of its beginning. And I hope the first kit is a masculine kit. I pledge my ever-ending loyalty.

Wow... We got 37 would-be Mafiagrams on this build, and one earner who got "made" before the cut-off date for a total of 38...

Wonder how close that sits for a member-participation record? 'Course, it's about number that FINISHES this build, not who signs up for it...

Hey, Hammer!!  Do you think you should post the completed pic on the front page?  It would make it easier for people to see how awesome the Monogram kits can be without having to slowly shuffle through all the posts.

WOW!  I'm gone for a little while and this place just explodes with stuff!  Builds are looking great everyone!  I just had to show some proof that I've done something to "start" before the deadline.  It's not much, but at least it's something, right?

Just started some shading on the interior of the B-25 and the P-40.  Also, started to add some ballast to the -25 so she's not a tail sitter and filled that nasty hole in the seat of the -40.  Enjoy!

Hi Hans, longtime lurker here and decided to do 1st GB. So can I sneak in under the wire with the 1/72 Bf-110 and 1/48 F8 Crusader? If all goes well, I may throw in a car or 2 as well.

Thanks,

Mike

Ok, sounds great.......looking forward to it! I've been collecting decals and references for awhile; love those WWII fighters by Monogram. Just cracked the vintage 70s cellophane, and gagged at the smell of the stagnant box air! lol......but, inside, there was one of those tri-fold catalogue of Monogram's kits. Will have to post a pic for old times sake!  Will probably tack on a P-47 as well......looking forward to it!

Hmmmmm...guess I'll have to look in the back of the stash for something else....I've blown through most of my other Monogram stuff..

No sweat.. Like I said, your slot's locked in, so you got some time...  A lot of Revell's current 1/48th stuff is ex-Monogram. That's to say, Revell, not Revell-Germany, however.. Chances are, if it's in a dark blue box, it's a NO-GO...

Also, dunno if you caught my post about "Monogram Classics"... But some are in boxes with the classic Monogram box art, but are NOT pre-merger Monogram molds... Like the "Monogram Classic P-51B"... It's a "Blue Box", but it's a reproduction, as it were... The model itself is the new-tooling P-51B/C, and not the Jim Howard "Ding Hao!" kit from the 60s, although the decals for it are in there...   So you CAN build Jim Howard's P-51B, you just can't build his "Classic" P-51B...

Kinda pizzed me off... I don't usually get caught like that, lol...  Stickin' to "White-box"...

Sorry Hutch... The 109's a NO-GO too... The ONLY 1/32 aircraft kits that are originallly Monogram's are:

F-51D Mustang

Phantom Mustang

Piper Tri-Pacer

F3F- Flying Barrel

Grumman Gulfhawk (civilian F3F)

I put you in with the F-86 and a "TBA" though, so your slot's safe...

The newbie again......also thinking about the first 'white box' version of Gabrieski's P47D or the more recent kit that includes the small fret of PE, pre-merger I believe and same kit as initial offering in mid 70s.......

Gotta love the old Monogram kits; with a little love and TLC, they still hold their own.  Does Revell make any kits in the USA anymore????

DW

As far as I know, Revell Germany in't actually Revell... They aren't part of Revell USA... But then, a lot of my Revellograms say "Made in China"...

As for the P-47, either of those will do...  The white box is the 70's release... The "High Tech" Jug is ok too, even though it's post-merger, 99.9% of it is pre-merger...

Don Hammerini,

I am a late comer to this post, and am not really sure what a group build consists of.......may I be so bold as to request an under the wire admittance to this prestigious undertaking?  Just started getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus, and had started a few of my older Monogram kits.  These are the kits I just started working on:  F/A 18 C "Blue Angels," F/A 18 C "Chippy Ho" (missing directions.....any suggestions?) and possibly the P39 Aircobra or the most recent pop of the P38.

Just got on the boards tonight and found this group build; thought it would be a great way to get back into the swing of things and relearn the lost art of model building.

Many Thanks,

Dave W.

Welcome to the build and to the forums, Dave!  Boy, did YOU ever pick a way to pop a Group Build Cherry! Anyway, Group Builds are simply what they appear to be.. A group of modelers that are building kits with a common theme or standard, with a start date and end date for the completion of the kit(s)...  When you get done (or just joining up sometimes) you can then put the group build badge into your signature and let the whole world know that you don't get out much and have a lot of time on your hands, lol...

Just pick your kits and declare, I'll put you on the roster on page one, and you goit si months to finish up a minimum of TWO Monogram kits... Make sure you check with someone though, if you ain't sure if your kit choice is kosher for the build..

This one has some limitations, such as having to be Monogram kits that were first released prior to the Monogram/Revell merger in 1986... A lot of Revell kits are eligable though, since they only changed the boxes and not the kits... But then, many aren't, as you can see from my last post...

Anyway, as long as you declare your intent and get it in by midnight, you're good to go, and that's what you got... So if there are any issues, we'll talk through them.. You're in...

Dunno about the Hornets, but they have to be pre-merger, meaning that they had to be Monogram kits with a copyright date of 1985 or earlier... One of the jet guys can sound off about it...

I'll put you down for the P-39 and P-38J though... If you want to do four kits, I'll just give you a double "TBA" slot for now...

You mean the Revell 1/32 Stuka, Hutch?  That's a NO-GO... Has to be a Classic Monogram kit, or a Revell kit that began life as a Monogram kit... Only the 1/48 Ju-87 D and Ju-87 G Stukas are actually Monogram...

F-86 is a GO though.

oops..my bad...I do have a 1:32 Monogram BF-109G-4 Trop I can substitute....

Pro Modeler..... completely revamped the classic P-51B.

Speaking of that one... I just bought what I THOUGHT was a re-lease of the "Blue-Box" P-51B, "Ding Hao!", flown by ex-AVG pilot James Howard.. It's a "Monogram Classic" kit, with the Monogram logo stating such.. The box art is the original P-51B box art too, and that's what I thought I was getting...

HOWEVER..

Upon receipt of the kit, I opened it and found it was not, I say again, NOT the "classic" 1960s P-51B, but rather the newer, post-merger, 1999 release of the re-tooled Revell/Monogram P-51B/C... I'm not unhappy with the kit, by any means, as I got it for 17.00 shipped (apparently, it fooled a bunch of other guys that wanted the "better" P-51 and they just saw, like I did, the box art and "poo-pooed" it)... Now I got two of the new ones though, so it's ok.. It even came with an embroidered "Monogram Classics" P-51B/C patch!

But I REALLY wanted the old kit... *sigh*...  Sad What's a Capo to do....

Oh yeah... Buy another friggin' Mustang...Toast
