Looks better than "fair" to me Sparrow, I'd like to see close ups of the wings, the front edge has a neat visual quality.

Well.  It's not my best work, but my skills have deteriorated more than I had thought.  Here it is, for what it's worth.

First a couple of WIP images.

And now for the completed Panther.  Again I am not really all that happy about it, but it's the best I can do right now.  I'll probably do some trim touch-up and repainting at some point on this one.

Like I said, I'm not all that happy with it.  The weathering could have been better.  But considering my shaky hands, I think it's at least fair.

Rich

Still working on the Mosquito.  I am waiting for some paint.

Cool; still a great kit. I built several as a kid in the early 80s when it was marked up as the yellow nosed "Detroit Miss;" still a great kit.  Just started trying my hand at scribing panel lines; will definitely have to get more practice.

Good luck on your project!

Things are looking great, guys. Thanks for posting the pictures; they are inspiring me to actually get back to work on my projects.  Owl, is that the "Big Beautiful Doll" version of the P51D? Did you scribe the panel lines?  Working on mine as well; not too happy with the gun bay door fit to wing......but, it is coming along.  Maybe I will post some pics, once I get set up again.

Thanks again for the inspiration everyone!

DW

yes, it is the BBD version. I only re-scribed the wings a little bit where I sanded them off when smoothing down the ammo door.

nice looking Sabre hutch! How did you get the brownish shading on the panel lines?

Thanks...I airbrushed Tamiya Smoke lightly over the panel lines....50-50 mixture paint to thinner.

Okay...I laid down some Alclad....lighting exaggerates shading of some of the panels.

It must just be an empty box, OWL!  Confused

OK, guess I'll have to admit there might be a few Mustang haters on the other sides.  Big Smile

Boy, all you folks are really busy! Golf is causing some interference here. (I know--I know, don't say it)

Just shot you an IM about buying that P-38J, $8 at the LHS, looking forward to that one.  My Revelogram stash pales. Boo Hoo  EDIT: Just saw the Spit Hammer, she looks great.  I love it when the door is open on those birds.

Does that MiG-15 kit have the original N Korean pilot figure (Standing, wearing O-mask to hide face) of Lt. No Kum-Sok , Kermit?

I forgot to mention... That's a freehand canopy paint-job, no masks of any kind...

Now.. Onto the Spitfire..

It too is at 99%, although these pics are the WIP shots..

Added some strip styrene to the sidewalls and then built a breaker box, flap controls, and throttle quadrant from sheet styrene.

Below is the scratch-built entry door with latch & crash-bar, and the cast resin panel.  I copied the panel from the Revell Spitfire Mk II:

Using the Mk II Spit's seat as a template, I built the seat for the Mk IX from sheet and strip styrene:

I also added the walls for the gear bay, and some ribbing, using strip styrene as well. It's since been filled and re-painted.

Wide shot

Ran into a silvering issue here, as well as a couple other small problems (mask bleed-through), but I fixed the silvering by poking some holes into the clear film and applied copious amounts of my home-decal setting solution (white vinegar)

Same thing on this side.. Fixed it, and also added Pilot Officer Reggie Plushbottom (figure's a cast resin copy from the Monogram AT-6 kit).

This is the kit's canopy parts after I cut them apart (It was a one-piece as all the early Monogram kits were.) I've vac-formed a hood and will install it as the last step. I also saw I had to add some putty to blend in the windscreen a bit better.

Another view of Reggie after I added his moustache... A quick wash on his face and drybrushing of his goggles, and he'll be done.. It's hard to see, but I also belted him into the seat with strips of aluminum duct tape fot the Sutton Harness.

:

Once I get the puttied areas arond the windscreen painted and the hood on, it should be done, and I can finish the weathering...

Thanks...just got back from Hobby Lobby with the Red Baron, so I am all set....love those 40% off coupons!!!!

Oh hell, yeah.. That's the only week I go to HL, lol... I use 'em for everything I buy there; kits, paint, tools, diorama and building materials, even used 'em to buy my bench and airbrush/compressor...

I usually go twice in one day too... Once in the morning, then again after cashier's shift-change... Get around the "One Coupon per Day" thing thataway... Three times if the Baroness von Hammer goes along, lol... I haven't paid full price for anything there in the last 2 1/2-3 years..

Ditto...LoL.....I had a lady one time start to apply a 40% coupon to a clearance priced kit.  When I pointed it out she just smiled, put the additionally reduced kit in the bag and said, "oh well." Needless to say, I thanked her.

looking good Kermit! About how big is that Mig? (lol that rhymed!) Whistling

I've gotten a bit more progress on the Mustang. The wheel wells are nice, no detail was added. Just paint. I also cut off the flaps, elevators and rudder for repositioning.  The wing assembly was attached with very little sanding needed.

I'll be finishing this up in foil, with fictional markings.

And this is what i came up with sofar. Not exactly a state of the art resin+PE goodies aftermarket pit but i did what i could with some paint, drybrushing and a wash. Not half bad methinks...

More to follow soonBig Smile

Ja, but I never met any Jap pilots or Aussie kids.... I did meet Macky Steinhoff and Eric Hartmann, however... Macky especially didn't like Mustangs.. Wink Hartmann never fought with any, but he was always worried he'd come across them when the USAAF started the shuttle-missions..

That's why I said that "I knew", lol...

One more thing, Hobby-Lobby has a Revell 1:48 JU-87...is that an old rebox Monogram?

It's a re-box of the ProModeler, but it was post-merger, IIRC... Neither one is a GO..  Got one of 'em m'self..

Yup, the Red Baron re-release is a go... I had that Hot Wheels RB too.. It wouldn't work in my Hot Wheels Super-Charger though...

So you're down for the Saber and the RB car, right?

Yup...put me down for the RB.  Appreciate the quick response.  I'll pick it up, today.  I haven't built a car in decades, so it should be fun....  Eventually, I'll build the tri-plane as well.

As for the Sabre, base coat of Alclad is down and I am now taping it off to apply different panel shades.

Hmmmmm...guess I'll have to look in the back of the stash for something else....I've blown through most of my other Monogram stuff..

No sweat.. Like I said, your slot's locked in, so you got some time...  A lot of Revell's current 1/48th stuff is ex-Monogram. That's to say, Revell, not Revell-Germany, however.. Chances are, if it's in a dark blue box, it's a NO-GO...

Also, dunno if you caught my post about "Monogram Classics"... But some are in boxes with the classic Monogram box art, but are NOT pre-merger Monogram molds... Like the "Monogram Classic P-51B"... It's a "Blue Box", but it's a reproduction, as it were... The model itself is the new-tooling P-51B/C, and not the Jim Howard "Ding Hao!" kit from the 60s, although the decals for it are in there...   So you CAN build Jim Howard's P-51B, you just can't build his "Classic" P-51B...

Kinda pizzed me off... I don't usually get caught like that, lol...  Stickin' to "White-box"...

Thanks, Hans.  I remember seeing the "Monogram Classics" post, but can't for the life of me find it.  So, if you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction...if you have the time.  As for the F-86, I already started it as part of a Father/son build, but my boy decided "Black Ops" was more important for the moment.

One more thing, I do believe the old tom Daniels Red Baron car was an original Monogram kit.  I built it as a kit and disappeared when my Dad cleaned out my old stuff when I went into the USAF.  But I still have the Hot Wheels car that came with the kit and it is worth a few bucks!   I always wanted to re-build that kit and Hobby lobby has it.....do you give that a thumbs up?
