Ya killin' me, Owl...Wink

 Hans von Hammer:

BTW, I'm adding two more, since I'm almost done with the Spitfire and the Stuka's just lacking the "Watering Cans", AND it's the LAST DAY TO ENTER ANYTHING...  Time's up at Midnight Central Time...

P-47D and the P-38 (haven't decided on the version though.. Possibly the "M"... Just can't leave that razor saw alone, y'know?)

I have my required kits complete. If I want to do more, is there still a cutoff in effect? I started an Me-109 G-10....I`m thinking thats a NO-Go even though it has a copyright stamp of 1979 on the horizontal stab..?. Also thinking about doing an A-37 Dragonfly. Let me know the dilio!

Len

Yeah, go ahead and put in another kit (or three) if you want.. Just be advised that you have only untill 2400 Central Time TONIGHT to declare (Less than 6 hours form now).  At 0001, 1 April, no further entries will be admitted... And that's not an "April Fool"...

The G-10 is indeed a NO-GO.. That was initially a 70's Revell kit, not a Monogram... Revell started doing the 1/48th stuff to try to compete with Monogram in the 1/48 scalemarket, and that kit one of three that were released rather close together: The Spitfire, Mk II, Bf 109G-10, and the P-51D... They were re-boxed and re-released post-merger....

The Tweet is a GO...

Bingo!  Should have seen the look on the cashier when I gave her the 40% off coupon to boot , she then informed me she had to use it on the charcoals (since the kit was on clearance) oh well, I guess I should read.

I actually got away with that once, with a new cashier... Got a Monogram 1/32 "Phantom Mustang" for 8.00 and change a couple years ago...

I have a Tamiya 1/48 F-51D and your's looks pretty detailed...

Read in the other forum where you picked up that Tamiya F-51 on clearance.. Did you get it at Hobby Lobby?  I picked up the same kit on clearance there last week... $17.99, down from 29.99.. Picked up the Accurate Miniatures P-51B (Tuskeegee Airmen version) on clearance too.. $16.01, down from 39.99...  Glad I always wait for those yellow tags to show up there..  I've also picked up the Tamiya Beaufighter and He 219 kits for under 25.00 there too...   Proves that Tamiya and AM kits're  over-priced, at least in THIS town, lol...

WWII stuff captures my imagination, but modern stuff captures my memories...

Same here, but for a much different reason..... Like when them effin' Air Scouts in F-16s almost put 500-pounders right on our pos, back in '91...

I know the feeling... 'cept it was a battery of friendly 155's in my case. Closer the "Danger Close" to my particular track... within 5-10 meters of my buddy'sSurprise

Sometimes almost is good enough Wink

the Baron

I was pleasantly surprised to see how much the cockpit detail on the P-51D improved on the detail in the -B/C kit.  I have one in the stash that I'm going to build side-by-side with the old Revell pre-merger P-51D, which has nice detail, too.

You mean the "Man O' War" kit? Never built that one... I'm not sure who came out with their 1/48 D-model first, Revell or Monogram...  I'm thinking Monogram did, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now... As for detail, the Monogram B came out about 13 years prior to the Monogram D...  Good thing NAA didn't take that long, lol...

When Monogram came out with the B, it was their intent to get away from the "operating" features they went with in the late 50s/early 60s and gear the kits to the "serious" modeler... IIRC, the P-40B was the first "Serious Model" release in 1/48th...

This is not to knock Monograms offering, which is loads better than the seat Tamiya gives you in their kit btw, but to use it in the last mustang I have in the stash.

I also like the supplied cockpit detail better than Tamiya's too. It seems that there is more detail there and its more prominent.

Thanks Baron. As much as I love WWII birds and the sound of their radials or inlines, I have more personal connection with the fast movers. My father crewed on Invaders with the 452nd BW after Korea and growing up one of my best freind's dad flew F-86s with the 67th FBS in Korea. My own service time saw lots of service near A-10s, A-4s, A-7s, Cobra's and other CAS types, plus quite a few one way trips with no landing via C-130, C-141, or UH-60... WWII stuff captures my imagination, but modern stuff captures my memoriesWink

Stikpusher, nice job on those cockpits!  You've popped the detail nicely.

I never got to build the jets, they came out just before I graduated from high school and gave up modeling.  I was still working through props at the time.  But I remember admiring the kits on the shelf at Kiddie City, the P-80, the F-86, and the MiG.  Those are on my long-term wish list.

Owl I gotta agree on those True Details seats. Yes the Monogram kit seats are good, and their molded on belts beat Tamiya's decal belts, but theTD seats are really sweet!

thanks guys, I like the camo too! The Monogram Hog is a nice kit. It just needs a tiny bit of TLC! Smile
