Hey Andy, this thread is getting pretty long with still two weeks to the start date .Maybe you should start a new one on July 1st for the build logs.

That is not a bad idea. I second the motion.

Hey, did you consider trying to do it the same way we did Marder Madness? Might be a little hard to organize, but once it got rolling, it seemed like a pretty useful format.

Dammit! DAMMIT! Dammit, DAMMIT, DAMMIT!!! Bang Head

I keep looking at the first page of this thread, hoping and hoping and hoping that someone will step up to the Stug III Ausf E.

BUT IT HASN'T HAPPENED. And I can feel myself being pulled in, like an asteroid being attracted by the earth's gravitational pull, I'm orbitting closer... and closer... and closer... until FINALLY, I get sucked in and go up in a ball of FLAMES!!!

This is ALL your fault ANDY!!!

OK, here's the deal - at the end of September, at AMPSEast, I am going to purchase the Cyberhobby Stug III E and construct it for this GB. THERE, I said it. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!!!!????

All I can say is you better come up with a hell of a badge for this one Andy!!!

LMAO!  How in the world is it my fault?!?!?!  I was pressured to host a GB... noticed there was not much Armor GB going on after July 1st so I had to come out to keep us out of trouble especially Chazzer and MAJ Mike.  You see I am trying to save the world... Wink

Promise you it will be another fun GB!  If not, then I will have to buy you a Beer whenever I come to New England area one day.  I think it is great that we can close that gap... will update the list to include your CH StuG III Ausf E.

Chazzer, hang in there buddy!  Follow MAJ Mike instruction and you will be OK.  You are not alone... I opened the box of my Pz III Ausf E/F for the fourth or fifth time over the weekend.  I wasn't in mood to do modeling but still I managed to sneak into my workbench to look at the kit and study the instructions.  Wish it had a centerfold...

Only 17 more days... Tongue Tied

ONLY 17 more days, Andy!?

I have my kit and everything else but refuse to be tempted into opening another kit in the meantime so that's 17 days to go without modelling - research helps. Pictures are almost as good as the real deal Stick out tongue

I'm now stuck trying to decide on my paint scheme! Do I risk a hairspray whitewash, do I paint it like wbill did his or do I paint it in the Summer sheme?

I've never done a hairspray job and if it went wrong then that's an expensive kit knackered!

Advise needed!

It happened again....I tried to stop......took a cold shower......tried to think of ugly things.....I even began working on my Trumpeter German captured Hotchkiss gun......I got weak, I did it, I petted and fondeled my Stug III, yep FULL HEAVY PETTING including (but not limited to) reading the instructions, holding the small aluminium barrel and feeling up the sprue trees. I let you guys and myself down. I guess it's back to square one. Where is the next meeting? In the cellar of a hobby shop? I need your support.

No ... may have wished I had, coming from Springfield, IL ... Mark Twain hobby center (St. Charles) was closer (map quest) plus the traffic crossing the I55 bridge is always a hassle ... plus the MT store has longer hours (open till 9 pm) worked with my schedule. I called first looking for a specific kit (DML 6463) and they had it and would hold it for me.  I have been to the CRM store sometime ago ... remember it had a larger selection of kits .... TM had a much small selection of kits (armor), more RC stuff and model trains ...

I had to drive out to a St Louis Hobby Store to get my hands on the DML 6463, local hobby store can't get it, the kit has the correct engine deck config., for initial production version. Likely paint and markings of the 2nd Panzer Div., historical note the unit got close to Moscow in late 1941. Will need to do some checking on possible photos and other research ... Wikipedia link below. Ready for July 1 start.

Doogs- Outstanding work.  I am surprised that you have glued the antenna already or it is just temporarily attached for the photo op?  I am way too clumsy that I would attach it at the very end! Stick out tongue

Thanks man! The antenna's on for good. I'd typically leave it off, but it's a pretty beastly antenna, and I don't see myself knocking it off.

Of course, now that I've said that...

Only 25? Nice! I think I may be able to pull off both of my builds in July while I sit on the couch watching the Tour De France...I also may be able to talk Mia into doing one of the builds' actual construction for me!

Took a couple of pics of the two Pz.III-based chassis I did this winter, but they're WAY too dark. Will set up my photobooth tonight for some better snaps.

Here's my "warm-up" to the Vorpanzer. First whitewash I've ever done. First friul tracks, too (love these things!). Oh, and my first Dragon kit. It's almost ready for its flat coat, and then it's on to weathering with oils!

Thanks MAJ Mike for comment ... resin after market stuff adds the detail and can save time ... thou you have to be careful fitting everything together and double check ... the Pz III project is my third build since I have gotten back into scale modeling again ... while in the Air Force with traveling every few years made things hard with models getting broken in transit ... thanks again.

The barrel w/canvas was an after market resin from "Tank Workshop" (www.tankworkshop.com) Part No. TWS 2041 - Pzr III 50mm Barrel w/Canvas Sleeve, one could use white putty. The cyber-hobby kit is base on old Imperial Series 9032 Pz III Ausf. G kit and come with magic track, brake cooling air intakes covers, smoke candle rack, updated jerry-can with photo etched seals .... use a MG 35 metal barrel (LionMarc - early gun barrel). The rear mud flaps came from an older On the Mark Models photo etch set for the back (Pz. III Ausf. J) and use the Eduard front mud flaps along several other parts from the Eduard Pz. III Ausf. F - 35675 set.  Plan to use Friulmodel tracks and save magic track for another early Pz. III kit. The Tank Workshop also has Pz III Wheels w/hubs removed for use with the front cow catcher and large fender boxes of different sizes.

Hey guys,

First off, that Pz III that Armor 86 is putting together is going to be very special stunning - I'm really looking forward to seeing some paint on it! Great job buddy!

I'm really, REALLY struggling to stop myself from busting my Panzer III N box open and getting cracking on my build! Obviously I won't but I'm running out of things to occupy what would normally be my 'build time'!

I'm waiting on a figure that a friend is painting for me to go on the base with My StuG III B - that base and associated scenery should occupy a few hours of a weekend that I'd normally spend building but I really need the figure before I can position everything.

I bought a bargain basement Dragon Brummbar in 1/72 to keep me going but 1/72 is just waaaaay too difficult (for me) to at least make it look half decent. The couple of hours I spent on her this afternoon and ended up with a total mess that I wouldn't even have liked to put in my own cabinet, let alone post a picture of on here (I was doing a little blog) so it went in the bin. Drastic? Maybe. Regrettable? No way. A kit plagued by fitment issues and infuriatingly bad instructions which just made everything look worse. Luckily it was only a few pounds but a shame too.

Well, I do have two tiny Dragon 1/144 kits upstairs - a Hetzer and a Lang. I suppose I'll have to build these as they comprise of about 6-7 parts each and one piece tracks so it's not really possible to mess these up. It's time to break out the 10/0 brushes!

I've also got my 1/35 Dragon Sherman IC Hybrid Firefly in my stash but that is a special build and one which I want to expend time and money on and all of my concentration too so I can't start that yet! I want to build it from start to finish - I hate having half built kits!

What is everyone else doing in the big build-up? Do you all have builds on the go?

Cheers folks,

Ben Toast

The canvas wrap/cover on the gun tube -- is that part of the AM barrel kit or is that scratch built?  If scratch built, what did you use?  I've tried both aluminium foil and tissue and haven't really obtained the results I wanted.

Beautiful build, way beyond my level of expertise.
