Weather is getting better here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which means I could sit on my deck and build ....

But I have enough trouble with parts zinging off into a black hole in my work room, I'm not gonna try to rescue one by following it over the rail of a 3rd story deck ....

Matt

The weather in Queensland means outside building wouldn't be a prob. It's the constant swatting of Mossie's that causes bits to go everywhereBig Smile [:D]

Was going to start the 3.7mm yesterday, but my wife's grandfather has taken ill and she wants to see him over Easter. So it was pack up the car ready for a quick getaway tonight. Gonna be a 14 hour road trip there, spend a few days and then 14 hours home - no building while I'm away. So Have a good and safe Easter all, I'll catch you in a week.

Peter, as it gets colder, I am going to have to find a different place to work. I live with a couple of mates, so I am trying not to monopolise the kichen table. One of them does woodwork, so we are thinking of ditching all our landlords stuff out of the shed and working there!

Zok, keep asking around, then make up your own German grey technique! I would love to see some step by step of preshading.

Larry, I hope your wife is okay, and that your kids don't tear you into little pieces. Otherwise we might have to have a Larry Dunn group build!

Not as slow as the progress on my Azimut Mack NO truck, Matt! In other words, NONE!

My wife had to have an operation on the female plumbing, and so I am house dad as well as bread winner for a while! The kids love the novelty, but it doesn't leave for a lot of time to glue plastic pieces together and declare it a vehicle. Maybe over the weekend ....

THanks for the input, all!
Hmm, that's an interesting idea petbat. I definitely was not going to shoot tamiya german gray directly, as it is too dark. But preshading with it might work.
Also, as tigerman said, the MM panzer gray is good. It's very close to tamiya neutral gray.
I think I'll shoot preshading with tamiya german gray, then try a part with a layer of tamiya neutral gray and MM panzer gray side-by-side for comparison.
I'll talk to the guy at the LHS this weekend. He built quite a few models in the simple gray scheme, so I want to see just what he did.

I might be game to try that grey approach on a build too, Peter. That sort of subtle variation is a skill I would like to develop.

Zokissima, It certainly was!Big Smile [:D] Get better soon, mate.

Phroosh. You build outside, on pavers, in the dark?. One comment - build inside a tent, cause you are gonna be searching the ground forever for some tweezerpulted parts.

Zokissima, I haven't done a panzer grey vehicle in acrylics, I usually use Humbrol. However, a while back at one of my club meetings, they did a demo of preshading. The guy used Tamiya Panzer Gray as a base, then used a Lighter Tamiya gray (Neutral Gray?) mist coated over that. After the dark wash it looked great. I was planning to try that on the Krupp Protze and 3.7mm I am building.

Glad I'm building this combo. I just realised that the grey clashes with the tiles and carpet in my house. Should make it easier for me to find dropped bits.

I'm jealous guys. I'm waiting patiently for AFV's Pak 40 to hit the store. So many group builds, so little time. I may have to skip the M1 build, haven't even started. Argh. Get better Zokissima.

I had a huge win this morning. Last night whilst working on my SiG33, I tweezered launched a tiny part into the air. I work outside, at night, on deep pavers, right near the back lawn. On the way to my van this morning, I had atoken look around, and found it on the lawn! I am the King of the World!

I am going to order a new barrel. The detailing is going well, too. I might post some pics to show what I altered or replaced.

Zokissima,
hope you feel better soon.
jury is out on the Tamiya German Grey.
the debate has been ongoing here.

anyway, here is my 2 cents:
the 'typical' Tamiya German Grey (XF-63 ?) is on the dark end of the spectrum.
some folks, me included use XF-53 (? Neutral Grey) which is lighter.
this gives you more leeway if you use washes that darken the color.

i am hoping to get in on this build, but i have a few things to finish first.

I'm SICK, SICK AS A DOG! I managed to get NOTHING done. Ah well, looks like it'll be a nice long easter weekend. I'll end up working on it then.
Can anyone suggest a colour to use? It's my first time going for German armour, and I really like the monotonous german gray.
I spray acrylics only, so which is a good colour to use from Tamiya and Model Master acryl?

Everyone seems to be moving along nicely.

Progress report: My Tamiya 75mm PaK40/L46 is coming along nicely. It is going to gether so well I forgot to take pics! One major problem, one half of the gun was severely bent and I made a mess of it trying to straighten it (didn't break this one though). I applied too much heat and it twisted so I had to reheat it and pull it straight so I get to file and fill to get the taper back. Should be able to get some in-prog shots up tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Peter.
You always seem to know something useful, mate!

I have decided that I have to replace it. I also looked at this set by Jordi Rubio, as it was the only thing I could think of off the top of my head.

Thoughts anyone? I did like the look of the Armo barrel, but this set may have a bit more value.

Phroosh. Most guys who have the Alan Sig 33 are replacing the barrel in that kit. It has a fault where the breach attaches anyway.

Both Aber and ARMO do replacement barrels. Scale Effect (www.scaleeffect.com) here in Queensland stock ARMO barrels and Aber, but do not list the Aber barrel. Go to the site then click on Products then ARMO when the listing comes up. They have ARMO #35716 listed at $10.80 AUD. Next entry is a muzzle brake for it but that is $14-50 AUD. It will only be a buck or two to have a barrel posted from Toowoomba Qld to SA. Here's a link to a pic of the barrel: www.tracks-n-troops.com/ armo_135_barrels.htm

ARMO also do 12 piece ammo set for the Sig item #35724

I have several ARMO barrels, and the larger ones include an etched piece to be fitted inside the barrel for rifling, but I don't know for sure if it is in this one. Hope this helps.

Well I managed to finish much of my remaining M1 work, so I'll manage to start my Demag this weekend. I started the main part of the gun and carriage for the Flak 43.
I want to finish my M1, then have a day or two with no modelling to rest up a bit before really getting into this one.

I'm making slow progress on my Alan Sig 33. The instructions are, well, pretty awful as far as part placement goes, but I printed out some pics of the real thing to help with that. Fit of the parts is quite average. It is getting that squadron green camoflauge look about it already. Nearly every part needs trimming or filling to make it fit nice.
All that considered, the thing looks like it is supposed to, and it has nice detail in places. It also has no detail in others, and detail that shouldn't be there in some, but overall, I think it should make a nice kit.

I am not going to get too carried away with detailing or accurising the kit, I am just going to concentrate on only doing bits and pieces where the detail is sparce or a little clunky, so as to ensure it looks like a minature and not a toy!

The only thing I have been reall disappointed with is the barrel. I am assuming the real thing would have been round. The kits is a few blokes down the road from round. Pity, because that is sort of the focus with gun pieces....

No problem Firefly -- you're building and that's what counts.

Not that I know of. I could do it with Tripod, but I am blocked to all webhosting from work, where I spend the vast majority of my time. Any volunteers? Smile [:)]
