Not in styrene. There is one in resin made by a guy in Australia. Send an e-mail to this address

adampl@optusnet.com.au

asking for information on the resin M198 kit. I can't vouch for the quality of the kit.

I built the Revell Demag earlier this year:

Box Art:

The kit had (mostly) individual links, good detail inside and out! I had a lot of fun building the Demag, challenging in some areas too Tongue [:P]

I'll reiterate myself, there is not much out there for artillery. I flipped through my Roll Models catalogue and they just don't have much. Anyone building AFV's German 105?

That would be a cool gun, AND Warriors Scale Models just came out with two or three very nice DAK crewmen for German medium field artillery. Check the ad in the latest FSM.

The only turn off for me with the kit is that it doesn't have the baffle and only comes with the stamped wheels. Otherwise a long neglected kit.

There are two 1/15 scale kits available through Squadron. On sale at the low low price of $70 each.

One is the std L18 as depicted in the AFV kit, the other is the L18 mounted on the Pak40 carriage. The one on the Pak40 carriage should have the muzzle brake and the open spoked wheels.

Thanks Latch, I kind of wanted something cheaper this go around. I'm still thinking about the Pak 43/41. Not exactly cheap either.

All a matter of opinion, of course, but I've always preferred the gun without the baffle. Makes it look more like WWII artillery, which didn't generally have a baffle.

Here's an interesting review of the kit.

http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/afvclub/afv35050con.htm

These German artillery guns were handsome, certainly more so than Allied guns. However, they were difficult to manufacture, arguably overly-complex weapons. If I recall correctly, it took the Germans longer to produce a leFH18 than it took the US to produce an M1 howitzer!

Great news. Didn't they already do a Pak97/38 complete with winter crew? That's a really cool and interesting gun. They also did a Pak38 if you want to go downbore a little.

I wonder if Tamiya will re-release their Pak40 using the gun from the Marder as a basis? The gun in the Tamiya kit is supposed to be gorgeous, but I haven't built it.

OK, I have finally worked up an idea after a visit to the LHS (that's forum lingo for 'local hobby shop', right?Blush [:I]

Originally, as some of you might recall, I wanted to try to do something from the Pacific theater or maybe from Korea. Well, even though the build is a long way off, I quickly rejected that idea (maybe for the NEXT Towed Gun Group Build...).

So at the store today I picked up a German Flak 37 and Flakvierling 38, plus a British Universal Weapons Carrier, all by Tamiya. My plan (at this point) is to depict one of the guns hooked up to a Weapons Carrier. As I thougt about it I came up with this Dio idea of having the Brits looking like they have just returned from a skirmish in which they captured the gun. They will also have a bunch of German gear (helmets, pistols, and the like). There will be a few guys hanging around the Weapons Carrier trying to trade for souveniers. My working title is "Barter System", or some such.

What do y'all think? And any hints to the three kits? They look pretty straightforward, but its always nice to have suggestions.

Jon, that may have been me asking about the Pak 40. Any idea when?

Larry, Tamiya's old Pak 40 wasn't bad (my first Tamiya kit), but I didn't care for the shield attatchment.

Captain,

I'm not sure, but isn't the Italeri Pak 40 the late version and the Tamiya Pak 40 the early version??

I've built both and I liked the Italeri one better. Can't find it by itself anymore.

I'll bet AFV's will have an aluminum barrel and other goodies.

That was the same kit I helped my son build, Jon. Nice little build, except for the tracks.

I picked up the CMK FLAK43 and I am simply amazed by how ambiguous the instructions are! And I considered this a quickie build!

Anyone know if the instructions are right, and the actual gun part was left unpainted? I've seen variations on this in kits -- some flak gun build-ups have the gun entirely unpainted, some have the barrel only unpainted, some have the entire gun painted.

Hmmm. Some B&W photos I have for Wiking's flak guns suggest no paint on the gun partss at all, but you know how hard it is to interpret B&W.

well my hanamag and pak 40 arrived today, Still thinking of having it ambushed by a US bazooka team and maybe a M57 that was towed by a M5 recon tank [no turret, just a 50 cal ring.

Thanks, I am thinking about them, my problem is going to be finding men to service the M57. I can snag a motor team guy for one, maybe the Tamiya flamethrower as a second loading, and maybe one of the infantry standing and pointing the third.

I had in mind the Germans driving into the ambush with a bazooka team and machine gunners at the side and the anti tank gun head on. I just wish I could convert the pictures in my head to the finished product...
