Well done Krakan!! i think the berkut is the most "wildwings" around Big Smile

Theuns

This Komet is one of the easiest and quickest builds I have done to date -highly recomended!

I did it in red as we have a "unusual colours" chalange for the IPMS meeting (and I like the fact that there is no masking to do LOL!)

Theuns

nice to hear but i'm fine with "is academy" Wink nice looking tail-less plane Yes

Trey you put down some little kit there Indifferent

Thanks. I did get the kit a few months back, far better than the Heller kit.

Are you putting any decals on yours, apparently there is some dispute as to whether it was marked or not.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Krakan great looking cammo!

Theuns thats a great looking fire red Komet, the kit looks a lot better than the Testors offering I did last year!

I'm jumping in here with this beast, one of my favorite X-planes and inmho one of the coolest looking Airframes ever flown.

The XB-70 is a lot larger than I expected!

The box art is nice

tho a tad of false advert is apparent with the exhaust, wonder what the builder used here?

The office is spartan and clunky ,geuss it hardly matters once buttoned up you wo'nt see much of it at all

I can tell already that my fingers are going to be aching from sanding! The main wing area has a very long seam, thankfully one side is covered by the main body thats 1 molded piece

This has some seams that are going to be a challenge in the intake areas

I've got a case of glue and industrial rolls of sand paper so off to the fun!

Crazi cool paint that!

I would like to enter my Academy 1/72 ME 163 Komet for the GB.

A really nice and simple little kit. They supply the fuselarges of either the single or two seater and different tailwheels for both.

The fit is very good and the detail is typical fine Academy.

There is also a nice little "sub -kit" of the carrier/tractor that moved the plane arround the airfield.

Academy 1/72 ME 163

Academy 1/72 ME 163

163 "carrier"

163 cockpit

That instr pannel BTW is the one for the rea seat, I only realized after taking the pix LOL!

163 1/72

Note the nice fit between the fuse and wingroot. This has just been glued, no sanding done yet. Same with the fin to rear fuse

Krakan

Just a couple of quick WIP pics. Finished painting the main body and got decals and a first sealing coat of future. Going to start adding fiddly bits and panel line wash this week. working on a quick UH-1 Huey build at the same time, so i'll post some pics up when I make some progress.

I know that most of the people are waiting to finish other projects, so I don't mind anyway,
I just wanted to remind everybody that this thing is on their list to (:

Great pic's Helo, that's one crazy looking bird anyhow you want to put.
I'm looking forward to your project!

With regards, Ninetalis.

I recently bought the Air Force Legends No. 213 book on the Vought / Hiller / Ryan XC-124A VSTOL Transport and this past week I've been reading through it .

Lot's of great photo's and info on the XC-124 and I was thinking of cutting open the rear ramp , however it's not just the lower ramp that opens , part of the upper section opens as well and fits around the little tail prop

So I won't be cutting anything open . A couple of interesting photo's of parachute drops though

Anyway I'll wash the resin parts today in some warm soapy water and get ready to paint the cockpit pieces .

Hey all,

The GB doesn't really feel alive around here, but I was bored about a week ago and made this one.
Little new extra badge, for the more Jet lovers.
Maybe I'll throw in another one real soon.

With regards, Ninetalis.

Well, here is my F4U-2 'Night-Fighter' Corsair.

The kit I'm using for this one is a bargain that I've got as a gift from my GF during our trip to London.
A Hobbycraft Night fighter Corsair, They've made a ton of different corsairs who are now not so easy to find around here anymore.

I had read on the internet that this kit didn't bring to much trouble.
But I couldn't disagree anymore, it is a really difficult plane to make,
I does have a nice amount of detail on the outside and they provide you with the special part that you need to make the F4U-2, but when you put it together, there are cracks and holes everywhere, and the cockpit itself doesn't bring more detail then a airfix or old revell box and is also to big to fit.

As I wasn't thinking
about taking pictures of my progress before closing the 2 halves together,
it is a fact that I do not have any pitures of my cockpit...

What I do have, is some pic's of the biggest cracks and holes of this model.

When installing this part behind the cockpit area
, it leaves you with a crack that would be way to visible when finished, even with the clear parts mounted on it, so time to take my putty.

The tailwheel-well doesn't come together at all
, so I'll have to putty it up.

Also, when the wings are going to meet the fuselage
, they won't line up at all.
It is pretty hard to take a decent picture of it, but when you line up the front of the wing, it doesn't fit at the end,
lining up the end of the wings brings the same result at the front.
It also leaves a crack of at least half a millimeter...
I have a plan on making this right, next time I will explain with pictures
and (hopefully) be able to show you the results!

Another bug that I've found
with this kit is to be found in the paint sheme instructions.
It shows that (for both planes) you have to use a three-tone sheme that hadn't been used on F4U-2's at all.
(my source tells me that this sheme had (officially) never been used by any version of the Corsairs.)
In reality, The 'line rider' version had a different three tone sheme and 'Black George' (the one I will be building) had the 2 tone sheme.

To end on a positive note
, they do provide you with the extra parts you need to replace.
As you can see on the picture, one gun was removed on the right wing of the aircraft to make up for the added weight by the radar.
The F4U-2 version also had a different exhaust, as you can see in the top-right of the picture,
so Hobbycraft added some parts that are supposed to represent those exhausts. (Number 4 on the sprue)
I think I will try to replace those with some scratchbuild parts.

So I guess that's all folks!
With regards Ninetalis.

Nice work Krakan,
Great to see that some people couldn't wait to get things krackin',
and to be honest, that Berkut you're building looks HUGE, I really would like to have it build on 1/48 someday, but anyway, great work so far!

I've also started on a Hobbycraft F4U-2 'Night-Fighter' Corsair,
I will try to upload some pic's later!

With regards Ninetalis

I've laid down the final coat of Medium Blue, and just now painted the first set of stripes on the midsection of the upper fuselage.
For the stripes, I mixed up Tamiya Medium Blue, Black, and Metallic Grey to get an off-black with a light metallic blue sheen to it. I'll be painting the exhausts later and finishing up the stripes to get it ready for decals.

Here's some WIP shots of the medium blue base coat.i'll post some shots of the first stripes when the wifey gets home.

I made some good progress on the Berkut this weekend. Finished sanding the body and layed down the primer and first coat of Tamiya Medium Blue.
I've decided to go with a subtle tiger stripe paint scheme with either metallic gray or black on the stripes. Next up is to lay down Alclad on the exhaust nozzles and get the stripes masked and painted.
I'll post some pictures when I get home from work.
