Ok, guys! I had 1 hour to look through all the posts I missed here and I decided to leave a bunch of replies!

Eric: Greg already told you about how much I like your 190s (thanks for that, buddy!). I really love how both of them turned out and you keep impressing me wit the insanely high quality standard of your work!

Joe (Rix): It looks like all your patience is paying off, brother! I'm amazed by the amount of patience you have!

Joe (Mustang): Excellent work, mate! The 'pit looks gorgeous as well as the different engine parts!

John: I really like the look of your 190s! Were you able to fix your canopy rail problem?

Greg: Your 190 Looks really good. A nice, clean build and a very thin paint job! I like it! Regarding the mottling/drying paint problem: I'll send a small box to you as soon as I get home and to the post office. It has some Gunze paints for you inside: The standard motling color (I can't remember the RLM number), the colors for a US-Navy 3-tone scheme and I'll throw the color you need for your current 190 in there as well. Is it Olive Green? You can thin those paints with Tamiya thinner and they are great for mottling. And I WILL send it to you, no matter if you want it or not (although I think you won't say no...) That's for not meeting you in the states.

John, those looks splendid! I don't know what a snap is, so I can't guess. :) For whatever reasons, really like the paint scheme of the second one (not to say I don't like #1!)

Maybe these pics will incent me to stop procrastinating????

Clemens (though you won't see this for a while), I am always tired after returning from Chicago, and as you know it's less than a two hour drive for me. I don't envy your upcoming jet lag! Safe travels.

Ahh, its good to hear Clemens is doing good! Was beginning to get worried that those 27 Fw 190's that he is building had gotten the best of him and he had to be comitted!!!

Now that's funny.

Yeah it is!!!!!!! He should be back with us anytime now.

Well here's the first 190,  at least I got a little progress this weekend on both of them.

And the wonderful canopy, that I can't figure out how to make the track guide go down into the slot. Bang Head

Here's number 2 FW190

So there they are, So just for laughs which one is the  snap.  So we'll see how good a job I did

Clemens has been uncharacteristically absent so I attempted to contact him. He is great, traveling abroad, and generally unable to post.

He said he has been able to keep up with this GB "sort of", and asked me to pass the following along to Eric (Jester).

"Eric's (Jester) 190s both look absolutely stunning and are truly a great source of inspiration for me! Could you do me a favor and tell him in the GB?"

Yeah, I have a Badger 150 DA suction gun and have had it for years and a Badger 350 SA (my first air brush, ) Which I've had for near about 40 yrs. And they both still get used on occasion but not as much as before. I just fell in love with my gravity fed gun I got about 3 yrs ago. Its SOOO easy to use and clean. I just got to where I didnt like the suction guns as much for the obvious reasons, being the sometimes slight delay for paint to flow after trigger is actuated. The gravity gun is instant as soon as you crack the valve, and clean up... put a bit of thinner in cup, swish, spray, back flush and wipe out the bowl... Gotta love it!

Kudos to you are well deserved!

Take care...

Joe R, Good to hear from you... Was kinda worried, with the rain in your corner of the world and all. Yeah, jesters right about those long sessions, thats how I insure the paint stays mixed. And its about the only way I clean until the kit is complete, Then I dissassy and thourghly clean for the next build.

Joe (mustang) Man... What a great looking start on your engine! That is going to be a beauty!!!

Hey Doug! I ended up purchasing two of those Badger 200 AB when they were on clearance at Michaels last year for 20 bucks a piece and installing quick disconnect fittings(about 30 bucks a piece) on both. During the long sessions I just pop one off and pop the other on and continue going. Believe me if they hadn't been on sale I would have done the same thing you guys do and stop and clean from time to time. This switching out on the fly increases productivity(like my progress is lightning quick anyway...lol) and decreases a lot of frustration.

Thanks for the cudos on the engine. Can't wait to get the block finished and mate everything together.

John and Greg, I use almost exclusively acrylics and have found by thinning and back flushing with lacquer thinner I get a real nice clean gun and a smooth flowing finish, John, with your "H" model (good ole gun) use a #1 tip and nozzel, thin a bit more then usual and crack the pressure up a tad and you will get a nice looking mottle, just be sure to keep the gun moving! Looking forward to the snap kit finish. Your other work so far has looked very nice!

I'm going to do some more on my Arrow this weekend, But I have a batch of beer to bottle first this weekend! I love making my own beer! Moere soon... Take care all!

Joe - Solid excellence on the gear box. Nicely done.

John - Yes, resistance is futile. Stop ranting and just buy the dadgum thing because just like all of us you have no backbone.Big Smile

Doug - Nice tip on backflushing to mix paint. I always backflush to clean my airbrush but never considered that one. Thank you.

Speaking of having no backbone and sales, I could not resist a score this morning. Although I am not much of a jet head there has always been two jets that I have wanted a model of, the F-18 and the SU-27. Yet, models of those tend to be pricey and, in 1/48, large. But this morning I got an email from Tower Hobbies of a sale on Hasegawa models. Got a 1/72 F/A-18C, normally $37.99, for $4.99 and the 1/72 Sukhoi SU-27, normally $69.99, for $14.99. Hot Dang!! If you have never used Tower Hobbies they have nice selection of models and supplies. I often order paints from them.

If your gonna mottle high pressure (30psi), thinned paint and the needle just cracked open works great. The thinned paint keeps the globs to a minimum.

Sorry John. Didn't mean to tell you that my way is the only way its just the one that works for me. Big Smile

Oh no problem at all,  maybe if I mix my thinner in better and try it at 30 it'll work.    I'll try anything at this point.  unfortunately I can't afford a new air brush the kind you can adjust the flow with the trigger.Big Smile

If it helps any I currently apply mottle patterns with a single action Badger 200 AB.

Ya ok,  last night i was doing 20 psi and barely open needle valve. I still need to mix better I think.

Joe,

No problem, I use mostly enamels,  but I air brush in the basement,  to many years of fiberglass resin and silk screen chemicals, can't smell much anymore, come to think of it neither can the dog.Oops  I just need to mix better I think,  I don't think its been obvious to me cuz I usually paint one solid color at a time.  I guess learning new stuff has it hazards as well.  gotta find a practice plane and try mixing better over the weekend.

I forgot John. I use mostly acrylic paints. It's one of the prices of being able to work on my stuff INSIDE the house. I've actually come to like acrylics even though constant needle cleanliness is an issue.

Back flushing is great for those long sessions too, helps keep the paint from separating/settling.

I only have one cup so after every color I run lacquer thinner through the AB and disassemble and use pipe cleaners on it and reassemble for the next color

Never thought of cleaning the cup that way. I have three of them so when I'm done it goes straight into water then when I'm done with my session it goes into a glass jar of non chlorinated brake cleaner for the day. After I get home from work I do some touch up with the brake cleaner and pipe cleaner and call it done. That's what I use for the metal cups anyway.

Doug,

I usually do the geyser thing when I'm cleaning it out, never thought to do it make sure that small amount of paint is mixed at the bottom of the cup.  Great Idea!!Toast

John... I usually mix in a seperate bottle then just put a small piece of old nylon ((Hope my wife dosen't notice them missing) on the top then strain the paint through the stocking piece, works very well, However... when I need a small drop or just a quick touch I put right in cup, then add thinner, and hold my finger over the end of needle nozzle and hit the air. It blows back through cup and does a nice job of mixing paint. Make sure pressure isnt too high or you get a good imitation geyser!

Joe, my LHS owner has informed me about the 109 G to be issued soon too...he knows what a sucker he has in me!  Gotta have ont though...

Take care ...
