Greg,

I think you right we should.    And I'm not to jinx it by saying I've seen it all.  I'm sure I can do something else to screw it up and throw big chucks of paint everywhereIck!

John

John, you made me laugh out loud before even finishing my second cup of java, an unusual thing. :) I enjoy a laugh, so thanks, mate.

Greg

Joe, nice detail for sure. So I'm assuming the Eduard A-8 comes with a nicely detailed engine, then?

The A-8 comes with a  really nice engine indeed. Theres a bad A PE set for it from Eduard too! The gearbox I have displayed is the Aires update set for the D-9 I'm building and that is part of what I have pictured.

Ah, thanks for the clarification, Joe. I thought it looked too good to be a stock styrene kit part. And you got me, I'm already a sucker tor Eduard PE sets. :) Didn't take long, even though I have only one build under my belt using same.

Oh yes they do!! I check  the Daily Special as well as the Mystery Deal quite often as you can find some crazy steals there.

Yes, my eyes are (unfortunately, for my wallet and sanity) wide-open regarding Squadron's deals now. Cool

Thanks everybody for the comments on the D-9 engine so far. Man lemme tell you all, if you build a Tamiya D-9 kit get the Aires update. That thing is friggin killer!!! All kinds of detail and so far its going together nicely. This is largely different than most of the updates I've tried in the past!

Are you talking about a 109 on a 190 post?!! Shame!  Surprise  Ok I just picked up a revell 109  this week,  I'm bad.

Plus there's still a little open room on my bench to stack another model to work on at eh same time as 9 others.Whistling

I am holding out for that Eduard 109 G series that's supposed to be coming in 14.

I have several Jacksons put aside for this bad boy. I started to grab the Revell that was just popped but decided to wait and put that towards a pimped out Eduard G.

I know. I have a Zvezda F-2 but at this point I'm really eyeing the Eduard release. Hopefully they have a Royal Class version of it. Will see and cross my fingers!

John, once we both get a handle of some sort on mottling, maybe we should get together and co-author a book on how not to do it. Toast

Jester, I've only recently become aware of Squadron's rather frequent sale items, and fell victim to one last week. Not applicable to this GB, though. There have some good ones.

I'd do it because that's a smokin' deal but I have enough parts left over from my Royal Class 190 and the spare weekend edition to build another one already. The only thing I would really need would be a PE basic Profipack PE set which aint all that expensive. I am holding out for that Eduard 109 G series that's supposed to be coming in 14.

Joe, that accessory pack looks great! Wow, look at the detail!!

John, I used to try that same thing and found it works much better mixing the paint in a separate container then adding it to the ab cup.

I feel like I should have the theme of gilligans Island running in the background as I tell this story.

The manger at the LHS I work at gave me a returned Pegasus FW190(snap together) and asked if I'd build it and paint it for the store as a display model, and of course I said yes!  I've been very pleased with this kit, I've glued it and fillet it and tried to do a good job at the details.  I've basically treated like my other 190's.  I'll post some pictures this weekend.   But any-way's as I was saying, I was painting the standard 190 paint scheme which was going fine until!!!

Da Da DAAAAA!!  the mottling dragon reared it's ugly head.  It was actually going great no splatters,  under 20 lbs pressure minimal paint out put,  and then some nasty splatters came out kind like flinging jello at the wall.  Arg!!  as it was a free snap together and the splatters weren't too bad I decided to leave them,

But I learned a very valuable lesson about my AB (Paasche H)  with the side cup.

"don't just squirt in the lacquer thinner and mix it up with a toothpick in the cup.  next time I use the jar and shake it up very well to make sure it is all mixed.   I'm sure that's why it came out that way.   Man what a rookie mistake.  I guess that's what happens a 1:30 AM

Hey everybody. Been noticing its a little quiet on here so I figured I would post a little progress. Just got through with the accessory drive gearbox on the back of the Jumo 213. It's taken me about a week to get it done and will now be moving on to the base engine build up and then the firewall/ engine mounts. In any case heres the pics:

Anyone know what color I should paint the bomb that going to be hanging off my A-8?   I think it's supposed to be flat black but I wanted to see what other people have painted them.

Thanks

John

It depends what bomb it is. A lot of German ordanace that was hung outside of an aircraft was painted the same colour as the underside, so usually RLM 65 or 76. But it could RLM 70.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Every Luftwaffe kit I've built the color callouts for bombs have been for Black Green (RLM 70).  It can look black from a distance but thats usually the color.

Greg, no problem... what I meant was one of the folks that works at the hobby shop I frequent had told me he sprayed straight out of the bottle. I've never tried this without problems. The only paint I've ever used right from the bottle are some lacqurers like the ModelMaster Metalizer paints. They are very thin and easy to use as is. Hope to see your paint scheme soon. I like how different builders choose and execute their colors and schemes.

Glad to hear thingsard smoothing out for you Greg, some one at the LHS told me that he didnt thin MM paint... dont know how he gets away with thatat the low pressures he was talking about, but what ever works for ya. I use a master pro gravity fed gun from TCP Global and love it, it also came with a 3mm needle and a 2&5 needle and nozzle set, but so far the 3 is about all I've ever needed. Keep it up my brother, you, ll hit on it !

Doug, oops, I meant that I am having decent results spraying Vallejo Model Air straight from the bottle, un-thinned. Goodness only knows what I actually typed. I've sprayed just enough Model Master acryl to know that I prefer to thin it.

My last couple of months have been one long ongoing senior moment, it seems.

Yeah... so far I like mine, Its done all I've asked it to do, I've custom painted tool boxes, helmets, all sorts of things including motorcycle tanks and such ...BUT, if I were trying to make a living with an airbrush, I would spend the money on one of the upper end brands. The only real issue I've had was the first needle (the one that came with it) wasnt ground true at the tip. I went to them and explained my observation and within a week I had another needle and it appeared true when inspected.

For what I use it for its been a good one so far.

Thanks

Doug

yeah thats been some of the complaints I've read about them too, that and the seals may leak if you spray alota solvents through them.  I was looking at a nice H&S or the Badger Krome to replace my Iwata Neo and those seemed like a good  deal for what you get.

I've heard mixed reviews on those airbrushes.  Some people like em and some people don't.  I've been in a toss up about if their any good.  I was looking to upgrade to a Harder & Steenbeck but the price was kinda steep.

Greg

.

The advice I've gotten from you and others here to practice, practice, practice is starting to pay off. I think I am seeing my techniques and results starting to improve. My airbrushes are beginning to feel more 'at home' in my hand, which I take as a good sign.

Thanks, my friend.

That's what I'm talking about bub! Some things there are a concrete answer to. Airbrushing is one of those crawl, walk , run things. You'll get it down pat in no time, Joe

Ah, Joe, you caught me! By that I mean I just fell into the trap of asking 'what is the magic answer/combination' (needle size, paint, thinner, pressure). And you've reminded me there isn't one!

That said, I've yet to crank the PSI up to where you mentioned, will most certainly try that. I found a great article some months back by a guy explaining why VMA actually works better at higher pressures. Went to review it yesterday, it was gone. Hopefully temporarily.
