Ok fellas. This is where I'm at now. Engine with a coat of paint and wash. In the process of installing all of the PE, coolant tanks and all that stuff. The second picture is of the completed tail wheel interior. The retractor spring is the guitar string I was talking about.

Eric, That is a stunning piece of workmanship. Your paint job is simply exquisite. Thank you so much for sharing your skills and knowledge.

Well folks, here is my third and final completed build for this fantastic group build. Joe, I have to say thank you sir for hosting one helluva group build. It has been full of extremely useful tips, help from some great forum members, and its been fun!!! So here, I present to you all Hans Dortenmanns Fw190 A-8 "Hascherl" which I think meant 'poor thing'??? This is the Eduard kit and I have to say, these kits get beat up a lot in reviews all the time. There is a lot of engineering here for sure, but that being said, as long as one takes their time, test fits, and thinks ahead these kits really just fall together. I used the Eagle Strike decals for this bird. I know the pic quality isn't that great, but it is what I have so oh well!!!

Joe,

thanks for the advice.  I ended up using crystal clear canopy glue to tack it into place in the canopy.  Now I just have to figure out how to paint it all.  Just when you think your getting close to being done, out come the little details.  I still have a bunch of PE antenna's and handles and stuff to glue on.

falconmod

.  Anyone ever done the etched metal and Dragon fw190 canopy?

John

I have not done that one yet John. I have an Aires upgrade set with a PE headrest but I aint going to use it. My plans are to use a spare sliding canopy from my Eduard stash and install that on my Tamiya. Its all plastic and I don't have to worry about fiddling with PE in such a sensitive area. If I were to end up using PE in a place like the canopy I would probably use epoxy to glue it in just to avoid the fuming issue and therefore the glazing of the canopy.

Ok, tonight is a bad night.  the etched metal for the structure inside the canopy that includes the headrest, and the sliding rail for the canopy itself,  is a bad idea.  never tried to glue that stuff together. driving me nuts.  Anyone ever done the etched metal and Dragon fw190 canopy?

I have to admit it made me scratch my head. The instructions were a little grainy in quality though.

Jester: Eric that is an outstanding piece of work you have tied up in your D-9 there! I really like your paint work on the aircraft you build. Really top notch! About how many man hours do you think you have in it? I'll post your pics in the intro post tonight buddy!

Joe Rix:Brother I have to say that you are undergoing one hell of a recovery process. It just goes to show the lengths you will go to do it right. Good going buddy.

Everybody: I have turned my attention to the tail access panel for the tail wheel "guts" and until today had some difficulty in replicating the retracting spring for it. The CMK instruction sheet says to use "drat wire". Try asking around for that stuff and see what kind of weird looks you get! I ended up going to the local music store and purchasing a guitar string about the correct diameter. Presto! A replicated spring that just needs paint and weathering!!

I don't know much about the armaments on the D-9 or 152 and i haven't opened the kit yet.  I'm going to the store tonight  so I'll look.  but chances are if it has rockets I'll put them on, I'll let you know, thanks

The pit is in 66. honestly was just following the paint call out on this one. The Squadron book on the Dora that I have also shows one with 02 wells but it is a museum piece so may not be accurate.

I was looking at that squadron as well not too long ago. Seems like many of the planes in it had the rockets mounted. Will you be adding them to yours and does the kit come with them? If not, I have a set of spares I could share with ya.

All right I got a set of decals for the "JG 10 Schlangenschwarm"  snake squadronSurprise  now I'll have to brake out the A-7 I just bought last week  and not use the slipper tanks, as soon as the decals hit the door.  no rest for the weary.  Sleep

Is the cockpit interior 02 as well?    I know I use 66 on the 190's  something about only the pre-production 190's used 02

Eric,

Beautiful D-9, makes me want to go get one for my 190 stash! I have a 152 waiting for me at my LHS.

What color are the wheel wells painted?

Well Gents, It is a slow meticulous process but, I am making progress on the repairs. I stripped more glosscote/paint even further since my last pic. That included the exhaust panel and on to the cowling. Got her in a silly putty mummy wrap and spayed a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1200 primer on. So far looks like the puttying and sanding has turned out quite well. It will be slower going for me here in the next few weeks as I have an obligation that will occupy most of my time and the wife will be coming home for a visit the first of week of Oct. Nonetheless i will keep picking away at it. Here's how it looks so far.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

Gorgeous D-9 Eric. Paint and weathering is nice and crisp. Thanks for including pics to highlight the landing gear, wheels and bay as you did a remarkable job of realistic weathering and detailing there.

Man, thanks guys, you are all too kind!!

Doug-My profipak D-9 showed none of the problems this kit did either. I think it may have had something to do with the switch to the grey plastic styrene from the old olive green. This kit was a weekend kit and the fuse sprues and one other were in the olive green and were in good shape. The wings and other sprues were in the new grey colored plastic and were full of flash and some mis-steps at the seams. I believe Clemens has confirmed the same problem with a weekend edition he is building.

Nathan- I havent seen the cowl flaps in pe but I will pick them if when I build another Dora. Next one will be completely and totally opened up. This plane does benefit from everything being buttoned up IMO as it has such sleek lines from nose to tail!!!

Gary-Thanks and I agree, these Doras are sexy machines!!!

Nice Jester. Another masterpiece! I kinda like the look with the closed canopy and closed up cowl flaps. I see Eduard makes a set of PE cowl flaps that doesn't come in the Profi boxing!! ..(of course!)...so I was thinking of buying a separate PE set for my upcoming D-13 build. But I just might leave them shut now..

What did u use for decals again?

Eric... Killer build as always, Thats a real beauty! I guess I've got lucky so far but I found no flash or warped parts at all with my D-9 Profipack kit. The only issue I had was trying to fit the pit and the gun deck so as to have them aligned properly. other then that it went well. But again my brother, Beautiful work!
