Rigidrider: What a build! Your aircraft is certainly deserving of many praises! I like the camo, the detail and the quality of workmanship you always bring to the table with your builds. Thank you again kind sir for being a great addition to this build.

Everybody: That last sentence I tacked onto Rigidriders response here goes for every active participant in this build. It is all of you that make a group build like this possible. I only started it. You guys literally run this thing. Thanks to all of the participants who have built, are building and those that will take part in this group build. You all are the bomb!!

Eric: Mine has some pretty bad molding as well. There's a lot of flash (especially on the smaller parts) and there are some major steps on some parts instead of mold lines. I bought my kit at Hannants. Should I send my complaint to them or to Eduard? I'll try to build the D-13 nonetheless, but I'd love to have some better looking parts to use instead of the screwe-up ones...

Here's how my bench looks like ATM:

From left to right:

  • Eduard D-13 Weekend
  • Eduard D-11
  • Eduard D-9
  • Eduard D-9 Weekend
  • Eduard A-8
  • Eduard A-8/R2 (that's the one I started some time ago)
  • Tamiya F-8
  • Dragon Ta 152C-0

Sweet.Baby.Jesus.

Look at all those 190's!!! You are the man Clemens!! I'll bet the execs at Eduard would look upon this post with Cheshire cat grins and drool!!!

Eduard my azz! Kurt Tank would surely proud of the modern day Focke Wulf assembly line that we have right here on this build!!!! Good Grief!!! I would NEVER in a million years attempt this. Hats off to you Clemens. You are "THE MAN".

Alright my brothers, friends, and fellow builders... I have my Dora mounted now, and I call this one "Captured"

Any one who has seen some of my "other then 190 builds" will likely recognize my figures, sorry, I wanted to get her posted and completed and didn't have any figures to pose her with. I have some ordered now, to replace the other Dio with.

White 12 survived the war having been captured by the advancing American Army in April of 1945. There is no record of or known pilot to place her with. She was scraped about 6 mo later, if the accounts I read were accurate. Thank you as always for your encouragement and kind words during the build. The last picture is what she was said to look like in her better days and what I used to guide my paint scheme.

Nevermind. I found it already. It fell on the floor again and landed behind the box of my 1/32 Thunderbolt...

I dropped a line to Eduard via their website. Didn't really complain per se but asked about the differences in the color of the styrene. They seemed to pick up on that immediately and committed to sending me a new kit before I had even mentioned the molding issues. I think this may have been during the transition from the olive colored styrene to the grey as I believe the grey is what they use on everything now. Not sure how or why this would have affected the moldings in this way, but something went off the rails for sure.

I just noticed that the IP cover for my A-8 is gone! I saw it lying on the floor a while back and put it somewhere I'd be able to find it again, but I can't remember where I put it...

Bish

Cockpit looks nice Joe. I am with JOE on those cushions. Are they part of the Aires seat.

Thank you Joe Rix, Greg, Eric, Clemens, Doug and Bish! The seat is the Tamiya seat (the Aires seat was not reclined to the rear at all! The seat back was vertical so I used the Tamiya offering with the  Aires seat back cushion and Eduard color PE belts. I painted the seat with a coat of silver enamel and let dry for a day and then shot the 66 over it. After that I took a toothpick and chipped away some of the paint exposing the "metal" look underneath.

Thanks for the string-tip, Doug! (I think you suggested that one?)

All the parts are ready for some paint, so I should be able to post some WIP pics this week.

Very well done on the cockpit Joe. I especially like the seat cushions. They have a nice "real " look to them.

Nice work on that pit Joe!! Hey Clemens, once you dig into that D-13, let me know how the moldings are on the grey. Mine had lots of flash and generally poor quality molding. After contacting them, they sent me a whole weekend edition D-9 which was all in grey styrene and had much better quality.

Hey fellas. Not a whole lot to report here. The cockpit is coming along decent. At first I had mixed feelings about it but a couple of color changes and everything started looking more "acceptable" to me. Its a mix of a Tamiya seat, Aires cockpit tub and control stick and finally Eduard PE instruments, placards, seat belts and rudder pedals left over from the last kit that I built. Still have to install the all of the items mentioned but I have them painted and ready.  Couldn't get any closer than this without a focus problem Here goes:

No, I'd love to get military channel, but it costs a lot of extra money and I don't want to pay it... I'd only get the German military channel AFAIK and that one is really bad...

Yeah, I just thought I would inspire some lively discussion. I'm also a bit partial as my father flew the Corsair in WWII. As well as the Hellcat, Catalina, Ventura, and well, everything the navy had.

Clemens, Speaking of the P-47, were you able watch the program "Aircraft Aces" on the Military Channel last night? It was an episode on "Gabby" Gabreski. I guess I should ask if you get the Military Channel. Any way it was quite good as are each of the shows on that program.

Doug, Joe: I have to agree with both of you with the exception of your choice regarding the most awesome plane of that time: I vote for the P-47 in this category. It was a bit faster than the corsair as well (just sayin')... But hey, just look at my avatar and sig! Stick out tongue I bet almost everyone in this GB has a different opinion though! Wink Yes

Says the guy who just took a 1/32 Corsair (Tamiya) with him when leaving his LHS today... Whistling

On a more serious note now: I love the look of almost every radial powered fighter. Those big honkin' engines just mean business! However the Thunderbolt will always be far ahead of every other plane for me....

Thanks Doug, I do not believe I could have said that any better myself. Everyone here collectively has made this the most tremendous GB one could take part in. Ok, other than the F4U Corsair was the most awesome aircraft of it's time. As rugged as the P-47, faster than the P-51 in level flight and just plain bitchin' looking.

Hey Eric!

I just opened the box of my D-13 to start work on her! It seems like I got a multi colored Dora as well... (all the sprues are of some blueish gray, except the fuselage halves - they are olive green)

Guys, Thank you so much... You know, I'm sure like me, that you have noticed how many replies and how many pages have been filled on this build. I feel several things have played into that, First we have an administrator that does a fantastic  job running this build, second we have one of... No, we have THE most AWESOME aircraft of its time to build, and third, IMHO we have some of the best and most talented people to build with! One more thing I like about this group is even if your a novice or beginer, there is no one here that wouldnt take a second to help with info to questions, and usually more then one answer to think about. Different styles and techniques... such a diverse group!

From time to time, my local friends and neighbors will stop by to see what I'm building, (I work in the garage and they can see my work bench lights on) and most will compliment and tell you how good things look,,,and thats OK and appreciated. BUT... Coming from you guys, my peers from all around the world, and across the country, it means SOOOO much more. You understand and realize what it takes and know the time, the process, the love and even dissapointment sometimes that goes into each and every build we do. So when I Thank You, its heartfelt and sincere.

The base is drying now and by tomorrow afternoon I will have her mounted and totally completed. More pictures then, and again...Thank you!

Doug

That is a mind-boggling scale model, Doug. Can't come up with anything but "Wow!".

Of all the dumb questions, how did you do the cowl flaps? Part of the kit, bashed, PE?

Doug, That is indeed a rather nice build yet, there is some things I noticed. The first is that...well...umm.....that the uh....maybe that...mmm...Oh Heck there is only one thing that I notice. That that is one absolutely FANTASTIC FW 190!!! My Gawd Son, You have done some miraculous work there and should be very proud of the work you have done. Do you enter your models in any contests? Because that baby has got medal written all over it. Doug, I cannot emphasize enough what a real pleasure it is to build along with you and to get to see and experience the marvelous work that you do. And thus, in closing...Bow Down I am humbled in your presence.

Man, the amazing work continues in this GB! Flat out awesome stuff going on in here. I have been gone for too long to comment on everything I have missed but to each of you, kudos and great work!!! I am still whittling away at my 190's but between college football, work, girl scouts, boy scouts and a sick wife, by bench time has dropped near to none!! I have gotten a good bit done today and I hope to update with some pics this evening!!
