Yes, an excellent fit. I will post a picture of the assembly on the fuse once the glue cures and is safe to handle later today.

Nice. That's just what I was wondering. So does the rest of the cover fit nice to the fuselage?

Mustang

I agree that Eduard's kits details are very good and some tuning up is needed. It's the fun and challenging part of this hobby.

Nathan

I used a slightly different method. Last night I taped the wing half together and carefully trimmed, carved and sanded the cover till it had a good fit on the wing and the fuselage contact points. Then I lightly tack welded a couple of spots with Plast-I-Weld so the cover would stay positioned on the wing. This morning I removed the wing assembly with the cover in the correct position as in the next picture:

I then stretched some sprue to get a tight fit in those gaps

Then took my Touch n Flow applicator loaded with Plast-I-Weld and hit the seams from behind

The Plast-I-Weld melts the plastic and creates a neat seam on the visible side

Just need to sand a little and clean up the area.

Hey Nathan. When I was masking for painting the aircraft I used a spare set of wing root gun covers and sanded the back side of them almost paper thin to get them to lay down flush. That is a bad design alright.

Thanks guys. I wonder if fitting the gun covers to the upper wing first would work? And then just trim it to fit inside the fuselage? anyone ever done that? I seem to remember following a wip somewhere and the guy did just that, and it didnt' turn out well....Oops

Nathan

You weren't kidding about the lousy gun cover fit! Angry I decided to have one open and one closed and the closed one is a PITA to deal with! I have built several Eduard WWI planes and they fall together out of the box but this Dora's fit  is beginning to annoy me. Too bad they did not carry the great fit of the WWI planes on to WWII subjects. There is also some fitting issues with the wing assembly with the fuselage belly requiring shimming and sanding.

Hey guys. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I have never had a kit give me the static/ grief of fit issues until the Eduard 190 build. That being said, this has to be one of the best kits ever when they are finished. There's a lot of work involved in getting one of these puppies built be in the end they are Bad "A" lemme tell you. Good show on the sanding, bodywork and fit there Nathan!

PJ: Same story on my A-8/R2. I decided to leave the left gun cover open and close the right one. I hat lots of fitting issues on the closed one... The gap at the wing root join (at the trailing edge of the wing) disappears completely if you glue a small spreader bar right behind the cockpit's rear wall. I had a 0.5mm gap there which isn't noticeable anymore...

Nathan: Looking good there. I just used putty to fill mine, because the gaps were that irregular...

Well, figured I'd bore everybody with...gap filling around the gun covers!!..! Started out with .015" shims pressed into place and a dab of cement to hold them:

then cut to length and glue in permanently

not too shabby

got a few touch ups with some surfacer. I also got the stabilizers and ailerons glued on. Didn't remember them fitting so poorly on the other Eduard 190sTongue Tied

Thanks for commenting on the Tamiya kit, Clemens. Glad I chose a good one. I don't believe I've ever built a Tamiya aircraft before, been wanting to try one.

You ever email Kenny re that Gator Grip Glue? I did and ordered an extra bottle. Not sure if Kenny ships overseas, but I would assume yes. But you run into trouble I gotcha covered, mate.

Thanks a ton Mustang, just what I thought it would look like even tough it's not a D-13 but it should have a similar underside hood frame pattern.

No problem plastickjunkie. If you have any more questions or need any more pics I have the friggin  "Bible for Doras" Volume 1 and am working on obtaining Volume 2 from Jerry Crandall. This thing is phenomenal!

Nathan: Thanks for taking the time to get me my infos!

PJ: Thank you for your offer, but I have the color pages myself (they are the Eduard kits). Your 190 looks really good! I'm thinking about opening one of my Doras (either the D-11 or the D-13) up as well... The metal MG hood looks awesome BTW!!!

Greg: That Tamiya kit is a blast to build! It's basically the same as the F-8 kit with a few different parts and that one is just great!

PJ, I haven't enough experience to comment on which hood looks more to scale, but I am most definitely in awe of your scratch-built one. That is a piece of work. Wow.

Everyone, in case anyone's wondering what's up with my occasional two posts in a row, I've taken to responding to one page at a time. My memory doesn't last long enough to remember two pages of replies.

Bdog, cockpit shaping up nicely. You did a nice job on the PE seat belt installation. I am also wondering if the PE work will get any easier in time. :)

I ordered the Tamiya 1/48th A8/A8R2 kit. I see Clemens straightened us both out on your Bomben Torpedo question. I was pretty much clueless. Thx for the info, Clemens!

I've done a grand total of two canopies dipped in future so far. First one was a tough one, lots of masking. If you were asking about masking tape lifting off, on my first build back I had it lift off almost everywhere except the Future-dipped canopy!

Hey Joe (Rix), if I inspired you to try something, that makes my day! Thanks!

PJ, thanks much!

Joe (Mustang), please feel free to offer up an enthusiastic reply at any time. You made my day yesterday. :)

I still need to add the rivets so I'm looking for my rivet thingie. Got to be here in my junk somewhere Confused.

Yea, that hood looked like the front plate of a Tiger tank! I sanded off over half of the plastic. Everything fit very well, kind of. I just needed to use some persuasion and glue one seam at a time with the touch n flow, adding pressure specially to the top and bottom seams at the nose. Just hope the wings cooperate.

Sweet Mother Plastic! Looks like you had no probs getting things to fit inside the fuse. I like the metal hood, just needs a few rivet around it maybe.. That plastic one sure was molded thick wasn't it?

I have the color pages from Eduard for red 4 and yellow 11. I'm in the process of building yellow 11. Can you use these?

I finally closed up the halves and used Plast-I-Weld with the touch'n flow applicator. I love using this stuff cause it melts the plastic at the join fusing it together. After it dries, the seam can me sanded and polished away.

That ugly seam sands away with the help of the melted plast-i-weld. I need to polish out the plastic a bit more.

Since I want the hood open, I thinned the inside  to make it look more scale and decided to fabricate a hood out of wine bottle foil. It's a bit flimsy and easily bent but I think it looks more scale in thickness then the thinned plastic one. I need to add the frame strips on the undersides and polish out the plastic one before adding the frame strips. So which one you guys think looks better and more scale?

I'm almost done with all the cockpits, but I still have to add some weathering and seatbelts to them (and the seatbelts are still on their way to me from Hannants...)

I could really need some reference pics/information on the machines I'm building. If you guys have anything useful, plese tell/show me. It would make things much easier for me.

Here's the list of aircraft I am building:

•Fw 190 A-5/U12 (Black 13 with red outlines)

•Fw 190 A-8 (Black 10)

•Fw 190 A-8/R2 (Black 13)

•Fw 190 F-8 (Red 9)

•Fw 190 F-8 (Red 10) it's the same one Greg is building

•Fw 190 D-9 (Black <I)

•Fw 190 D-9 (Black 1)

•Fw 190 D-11 (Red 4)

•Fw 190 D-13 (Yellow 10)

The A-8/R2 is the most confusing for me. The armament on those planes wasn't the same on every aircraft AFAIK (20 or 30mm cannons in the wings, fuselage MGs or not) Does anyone know what the armament on the machine I am building was?

Thanks in advance!

Clemens: I dont' have info on all of those, but I do have some, PM imbound later today...

Blackdog: It's called "Bombentorpedo" which is German for "bomb torpedo".

It was dropped like a bomb above the water and would be able to reach its target without an engine because it gained enough kinetic energy from the drop. Removing the engine decreased the time and money needed to manufacture them and it also increased the amount of explosives the torpedo could carry. It could be dropped from much higher altitudes and stteper agles than convetional torpedoes... (I hope I'm not writing complete nonsense here...)

Yes that's what they are for.  Don't do what I did and glue that whole piece on the plane and take a xacto knife and push those two tabs in!!Oops  now I have to try to figue out how to pull them back out so I can attach my seat belts! Whistling

Nice progress Blackdog. Seems that everyone here can apply pe seatbelts in there sleep except me?!...(whine alert!...) I'll do a resin seat next time. Don't be afraid to dirty that cockpit up alittle bit with a wash or some dry brushing. Hows the fit on the Hobbyboss kit so far? The modeling community must have had its full of Doras by now cause I've heard or seen hardly anyone talking about it or building it til now. And yes, a few known D-9s had Ta152 tails, such as the one Black hawk Matt built here a while ago.

And when you hit reply it goes up on the thread for everyone to see. You can send private messages to someone by clicking on their avatar and click start conversation. I have a couple other pics of Blue 12 in color and black and white if you are interested I could PM you.

joe and plastic. thanks for info im going for it then i did leave some of the tree on and dipd them.

mustang. i didn't even know that Germany even had torpedo planes. i know they had a guided air to ground type. so a torpedo on something of theres still looks strange to me.

and speaking of strange what the heck kind of torpedo is on gregs plane ?

hey Nathan thanks for all the info.  after you told me that the 190d and the ta 152 where different I started looking things up. I even came across the fact that some 190ds had

ta 152 tails on them. kinda like the canopys  we was discussing being interchanged. after the beating Germany took we are probably lucky we have as many documents that we do.

its hard to believe that's so much history is already lost from something so resent.

o and when i hit reply is it just you im chating with ?

thanks again'

Does anyone have a picture (s) of what the underside of the hood forward of the windscreen looks like on the D-9? I want to have mine open but Eduard's piece is smooth and I'm thinking the real one wasn't.
