Greg: She looks awesome! I love the weathered prop and the overspray on the markings!

That's not exactly the pic I posted earlier, but it includes side drawings of the canopy shapes in addition to the exact same diagram i posted back then:

It was exactly like Joe said already: The blown canopy (right side in the pic)  was installed on the F-8, D-9, D-11 and D-13. The flat canopy was wasmounted on all the A variants.

There were some exceptions though. One of my D-9s (Black <I) has the flat canopy, as well as one of the F-8s (Red 10). Then there were some A-8s with the blown canopy as well...

Good reference Clemens! Which book is this out of?

Greg - Very impressive work you have done on your 190. The paint and decals look great and your spinner turned out quite nicely. There is no doubt that there is just a plethora of techniques to be had here and glad to here that some of them are working out for you.

I'm afraid that I will be the one to correct you on the canopy/antenna issue. 190's had two types of canopies, the flat canopy that has the pully system that draws the antenna taut when open. This was installed all A types up to the A-8. Then there is the blown canopy which did not have the pully system and thus the antenna draped slack when the canopy was open. This canopy was used on some A-8s, F-8s and  mostly on  D-9s. The easiest way to determine which is which is by the headrest. Flat canopies have the armor plate with a metal brace behind it. Blown canopies have a solid structure to it. I hope that helps clarify some things.

Nathan, glad you approve of my first weathered prop/spinner! Thanks for the help and tips on the prop/spinner. And to Joe and Joe who also chimed in with ideas.

Getting along better and better with the Vallejo, yup. Gotta tell you, I actually applied something I learned in the GB and thought ahead, believe it or not. I applied only those two decals that needed painting over (2 on both sides), whooshed on a nice gloss coat. Then started trying, wiping off the paint job, trying again, etc. I think I finally got it on the 4th or 5th try!

Joe, weren't just a kiddin' about learning stuff in GB's, mate!

blackdog, thanks for your kind words! I don't know much about the paint job around the two decals. Just attempted to do what the kit painting diagram showed. :) And I'm still seeing spots, definitely. :)

My 2 cents on PE belts. Both times so far I have bent them too much and ended up with the paint or whatever it is cracking. I mean the detail on the PE belt itself.

On the slack, I should be quiet except I asked the same question a couple months back and Clemens (I think it was) said there was a pulley system to take up the slack. He even posted a schematic of it, but no idea what page it's on. If I got it wrong, I will be corrected.

PJ, glad you like the spinner, mate!

As I sat down last night to get some bench time, we got hit by a power outage so that was it for the evening. Terrible timing. I almost have the firewall and engine completed and ready for the fuselage. I just need to do a couple of things to it.

Do you live around the corner from me??? The same exact thing happened to me. I was really wanting to get some bench time in this morning really early and at around 2 am the power went out! I usually get up at around 4 am and work until 6 am. The friggin power came on at 5:55 am!!!!  That's just almost too coincidental!!! lol

Yeah just be careful and don't bend them too sharp Blackdog. They'd look good flopped over the cockpit sil. I was gonna do that on the port side of my 190 but I was having such a superglue fiasco than I said f**k it

thanks for the PE info Nathan. do you guys think it worth bending them. my plan was to have them flopped around or over like the pilot climbed out and that's how they landed

Joe Rix - Glad you like the cockpit.

Nathan - You pit looks fantastic. I do the same thing about adding clear flat over the Eduard stuff. It's a bit too shiny and darker than the RLM 66 but the clear flat tones the color down and gets rid of that shine. I then add some drops of Future for the instrument's glass faces.

Greg - Love how that spinner came out. Yes The 190's camo looks terrific.

looking good greg I also wanted to comet on the over spray around the decal. gives the impression that the a/c has bin damaged or moved around.

you must have seen spots in your sleep after that paint job.

Hey Greg, looks real nice and weatherd now. The overspray around the markings looks spot on too. You and Vallejo must be getting along pretty well now.

Progress report: Getting all glossed up and ready for whatever might happen next. :)

I think I forgot to post a pic of the prop assy after trying the suggested pastels. Works pretty good, really appreciate the tip and how to advice. Danke!

By this time, the 'ol seam line was long gone. Whistling

Yeah unfortunately you can't heat up pre-painted pe. It will damage the paint. sometimes even sharp bends will cause it to flake off. I really prefer painting my own, or using resin when it comes to belts.

o ok I will be looking that up. I like to research my models.

I do have a question about PE my first try at it is the harness  for this kit wich is pre painted. my how to book talk about annealing them first so you can bend them. don't want to burn off the paint so im thinking its not  necessary.  ?

...naw, that's what a group build is for, just ask and someone will have pics or info. The D-9 was a more or less upgrade, new nose/engine of course and longer fuselage. The Ta152s were pretty much a new airplane.

ya im mostly a ww2 armor guy so most of my reference books are on armor. but I really got hooked ww2 aircraft lately especially the p-40 I have about a dz or so in the stash in 1/48.

I know the fw-190 was constantly changing so I thought the all long nose was just upgrade changes.

time for more books.

Yep all new mold. It would be basically impossible to re-use any parts from the D-9, with the Ta152s diff. tail, nose, and wing panels. interesting that Hobbyboss skimped a bit on the pe set for the Dora. But sounds like you got a nice set coming your way.

also I thought this ta 152 would be a upgraded 190d kit. but it is a complete different mold. so its nice to see h/b didn't take the easy way out. .

Nathan.  yes the kit did have a small PE set the back deck intake screen and head pad and thats about it. when I orderd  the mentiond  PE set I also orderd  the hobby boss TA 152 C-0 and it has a much nicer set incuding belts and pedals.

greg.   I get that lol.   im  a old modler that's trying to learn a hole new typ of modeling

greg   you may already know this but what I do for small parts is hold them in place with blue tack.

spot glue then then let dry then do the rest.

This is a great tip. As it happens, I figured that out AFTER botching up that PE job! I always overthink everything, it occurred to me too late to glue the first piece to the torpedo body (straight!), then use blu-tac to hold the next piece.

BUT, you don't know that I'd figured that out, and chances are too good I will forget this simple solution next time around. I am still learning the multiple uses of blu-tac, blackdog. :) Thanks again.

The 'pit looks great, Nathan! Did you use the PE side panels? If so, may I ask you how you blended them in so nicely (the ones in my kits are way too blueish)?

Yeah, Eduard's pre painted pe does not look right. I used small strips of Tamiya masking tape over the dials then just airbrushed 66 over the whole cockpit.

Jester yes, it feels good to be at "one" with the model, lol!

Nathan that cockpit looks like it belongs in a real aircraft. how did you give the seat belts that faded look. pastels ? my kit dose nott have any. but my Edwards just arrived yesterday they will be my first PE set.

A light oil wash lighter than the seatbelt color, then hit it with 2 coats of flat clear. Doesn't hobbyboss give you a small pe fret in the kit?

Rix! Thanks for the comments.

I got the cockpit finished up along with the engine, and started closing up the fuselage. The last step was an oil wash followed by a flat coat. Here's the finished pit before it gets closed up into oblivion:

Everything is now closed up inside the fuselage. I did have to trim the back of the firewall here where the back of the instrument panel touches, in order to move the cockpit forward to its correct spot:

Cement is still drying so I'll post some pics of the completed fuselage later today.  I gotta say after building my fourth Eduard Dora these things are getting freakishly easier...
